Question Question of the Week: What technique is a "Classic"?

I've been stamping for over a dozen years now, and I've seen a lot of different trends in stamping come and go.

Every once in a while, though, one of those trends "sticks" and becomes a "classic". A go-to-when-all-else-fails, tried and true technique that you go to again and again.

These "classics" sometimes go out of "favor", but always seem to make a comeback either in their old form or reinvented, somehow.

My "classic" is embossing. It was the first real "wow" technique I ever discovered. For a time, everything I did was embossed. Then not a thing for years, and now I seem to embossing so much more. How about you?

What do you consider a "classic"?

I picked embossing too Alma! All those wonderful resist techniques as well as just plain old embossing itself! I think embossing always helps bring a project up a notch.

I'm all about the paper-piecing! Ever since I discovered it, I use it regularly. Love the look you get, and it's a great way to use patterned paper.

Though I have been embossing about as long, I picked coloring. Before I used Copics, i used watercolor pencils, regular markers, or pastels. No matter what the trends, there will always be those images that just cry out to be colored! Copics have been a game changer for me, though, because I didn't really enjoy coloring as much before I learned about Copics.

But there's that little kid in me who wants her coloring books & broad tip Crayola markers back! Or that box with 64 crayons. Back in my day, that was the BIG box, with the sharpener in the back... short story long, sorry: coloring.

Aaaahhhh Noelle we could be very good friends!! I love to color!! I even colored in college when I wanted to just unwind. One year my roommates bought me a huge plastic case of Crayola Crayons - like 200 colors or something crazy like that!! It was awesome!!

I think I may have to go with Michelle on this though - it's always so neat to paper piece something and have it turn out so beautifully! It's easy to change the look of a project and I find it oddly soothing to fussy cut - lol!

haha! I do like piecing too. I love patterns and love to be able to make different fun patterns on things. I used to hate fussy cutting, and struggled with it. One day I asked a more experienced stamper who was beautiful at fussy cutting how she did such a nice job. She said "a good pair of short and very sharp scissors and go really really slow." It turned out to be great advice!

I picked coloring too. I have stamped off and on for many years now but never to the extent I do now and that is because of Copics. Of course, I love embossing and paper piecing too. But then again I'm happy with all aspects of this wonderful hobby right now.

It's embossing for me because of the variety of EF's and it's such a quick way to add an elegant look to a card.

Coloring is my nemesis. I can never seem to color within the lines and I can never say "enough" . LOVE using scraps of paper in paper piecing. Makes me feel like I got my money's worth

I go through phases where I'd rather not color. But one way or another, I do it anyway and always end up enjoying it! I do love to paper-piece and that is always useful when I'm short on time. I like to fussy-cut!

I must say most of the time that I'm a bit lazy. If I could just stamp an image. Layer it on some pretty paper and call it a day.

But, when I'm in the mood....

heehee, we made my sisters wedding invitations today and heat embossed 50 invitations, I was on the other end of the table and told her "That one's not done, the right side isn't white enough." She looked at me as if I were crazy, but I was right! This girl knows her embossing! Haha!
