Default Cabin Fever -- Talk to Me!

Okay, gang. I've been stuck inside the house for two days now with three boys, two dogs, and a grown man. We got between 12-18" inches of snow on Monday night/Tuesday. I think the time may be for me to use this time wisely and get a little organized. Stay tuned for some "before" pictures, and maybe, just maybe, some "after" pictures.

In the meantime, can any of you feel my pain?

Carole, it's too cold in north Texas to feel pain--I can't even imagine what OK is like. . . . .

Hang in there!

Oh honey - I DO feel your pain. I'm in NY and we have had a snowstorm every week since Christmas. We're not talking a few inches. Big time snow. So, although my kids are adults and not here to make me crazy, I do get stir crazy and since my husband has a 50 mile drive, he gets to stay home. Oh yay - lol. So it's me, DH, a greyhound, and 3 cats. One of the group is about to lose her mind. Can ya guess which one? We had a little switch this week. Instead of snow (which is coming this weekend - shoot me!) we had an ice storm instead, yesterday into today. I'm not a drinker but I think I'll be cracking open a bottle of wine left over from Christmas. Anyone care to join me?

Hhmmm, sounds like a great idea to me Lorraine!! We are definitely stir crazy here . . .maybe just crazy! Ha! Not only are we house bound due to about a good 1 1/2 ft of new snow in the last 2 days (and more on the way), but I'm bed/chair bound due to the broken ankle. I'm pretty scared of going up and down the stairs so I have stayed upstairs most of the day today. I'm joking with hubby that I'm going to get bed sores pretty soon!

I'm planning on stamping in a bit, but homeschooling, reading, napping and web surfing have been my occupations today. My youngest has an appointment tomorrow afternoon (hubby's driving us) so we'll at least get out for a bit then! Thankfully, I am a homebody, but even we need to get out sometimes!

Lorraine -- are you kidding?! I'm already joining you! Cheers! It's so bad here, my husband has suggested that we open this really fancy bottle of wine (Opus One -- can I get a "Whoa"?!) we have tonight!

Actually, I'm totally fine hibernating if I can spend part of the time by myself, or at least with someone to entertain Carter (my kindergartner) for a while, but alas. With no roads out, there are no roads in for our trusty babysitter to relieve me for a few precious hours. Thus, I have played countless hours of Thomas the Tank Engine, read all sorts of Berenstain Bears books, and fixed snack after snack after snack. I think my fingernails are permanently pulp-filled from peeling so many oranges!

Oh, Jules -- being immobile with five kids around -- I can't even imagine! You might need a knee-scooter like I had when I had that heel stress fracture. I feel bad for even complaining when I know what you're going through...

Okay. My empathy has waned and I'm feeling whiney/wine-y again!

Thanks, Holly -- where are you at in N. Texas? We get down there quite a bit since my in-laws make their weekend home at Lake Texoma.

I stayed home today (we were expected to come to work, even though they said the roads were life-threatening last night/this morning and even the PLOWS shut down last night). Had to pick my mom up from the airport very suddenly, and didn't get anything done today that I wanted to do. I've got a card swap I'm really behind on (as in haven't started) that I'm going to attempt tonight, then back to work tomorrow...BOO!

We dodged the bullet in the DC area, both with this storm and most of this winter's other big ones. I guess it makes up for how much snow we got last winter--and for the disaster from last week's heavy snowfall that snarled traffic for 12 hours and knocked out power for lots of people for days on end. Last winter, there were times I didn't leave my house for a week other than to shovel snow. There were many days I wondered what I was thinking by being a single female homeowner! And, once the roads were clear, I was afraid to get in my car and leave the parking space I'd spent hours digging out in case someone "stole" it while I was gone.

Here is central Alberta, It was gorgeous and sunny at +3 degrees celcius....a major change from the BRUTAL -45 Celsius (with windchill) that we had 2 short days ago!!!! I think the weather has just been crazy all around! My mom and dad are in Az for the winter and apparantly it wasn't all that much warmer there today than here!!!! I'd kind of enjoy being housebound right about now(without the broken ankle Julie!)....I started a new job 2 days ago teaching in a hospital. Chasing around 8 green, adult students is worse than my 3 boys at home! LOL!!!

Yes I'm not looking forward to being alone with the 5 munchkins for a bit tomorrow . . . for the most part they are being really good, helping mommy, etc., etc., but being in the house all day is getting to them too and they just want to bust out! I'm hoping it will be nice enough to send them out for some good ole' snow play - hoping they don't sink up to their necks in the snow! Ha ha ha!

Sounds like you all are keeping plenty busy and it's kind of strange that the weather thing has hit so many of us, huh?! We can all "whine/wine" together - right Carole ... pass the bottle please!!

So how is the new family member adjusting Carole?

Ladies, you have made me smile. Thanks. I needed that. Seems like most of us are in similar boats (and it's sinking fast - LOL) but being immobile and having 5 kids who are also getting stir crazy - wow! It's hard enough for adults to be "stuck" in the house but it's hard for the kids too and when they're not happy............time for wine - lol.

Sorry, stepped away for a while... The Opus One remains corked, by the way -- but when I do open it up, I will share with everyone in this forum!

Okay... here she is... introducing the One... the Only... SWEET PEA!!!

(and the crowd goes wild!)

She's a three year old terrier mix (beginning to think she's part pit bull and part whippet. A strange, but darling combo...) we're adopting from a local shelter. Isn't she beautiful?!

I'm not-so-quietly petitioning Alma to create a new TCP character in Sweet Pea's image. She could be a love interest for Poochie -- sort of a reverse Lady & the Tramp... I can see it now as a whole series. First, boy meets girl... And wouldn't she contrast perfectly with Poochie with her white coat?

Are you feeling me, out there?

ZOMG I swear she's posing all pin up style in that second pic - seriously!!

What a sweet baby! You can definitely see the pit in her face and that lanky built for speed hiney (unlike mine).

What a sweetie and what pretty "I'm so sweet and angelic" eyes!!

Love the idea of Poochie & the Pea!!

Cabin fever is good for stamping. Kids got an early dismissal on Tuesday, no school Wednesday and then a 2 hour delay this morning. My yard looks like a winter wonderland - beautiful for sure, but I'm SICK OF IT! We've had over 60 inches fall since January 1. It is RIDICULOUS.

So, enough about the snow, how about a project? Hoping to get some more stamping once these babies I mind start their afternoon naps....

Be careful everyone!

I have to say they are doing a pretty good job!! Emma's putting up with my constant "can-you-do . . ." with as much grace as any 8 almost 9 year old could!

The only thing that is really bothering me is the constant amount of clutter that is mostly due to the 6 of us being shut up in the house for so long! I told hubby last night if we make the 3 weeks without my crutches slipping on some form of debris (paper, clothes, toys, shoes, etc.) and breaking my other leg it'll be a miracle!!

Super cute card btw - love the puffy heart, what is that?!

So, enough about the snow, how about a project? Hoping to get some more stamping once these babies I mind start their afternoon naps....

Thanks for all the coos regarding Miss Sweet Pea! She's one of a kind -- I'm now leaning PitBull/GreyHound after watching her run in the snow -- and full of mischief! I suppose we deserve each other...

PitBull/GreyHound, or as my DH said, "Uh-oh... mean & fast!" Fortunately, she doesn't seem to have a mean bone in her body.

Okay. I'll stop conversating about my doggie. I'm just so smitten though, I tend to get carried away...

What's going on in your life at the moment?

I was just watching this old timey footage from the National Archives of stampers in previous centuries. Turns out they were just as messy as we are!!
