Default Closed & Creating - Child/Cute Birthday - Dec 1st deadline - for RMHC!

Hello SCStampers!

This will be my first time hosting a swap here, but I hope that doesn't stop you from signing up. I'm forever finding I'm short of children's birthday cards (or cute birthday cards for grown ups) and so I figured this would be a good place to start for a swap!

If your cards are not A2 please include envelopes, otherwise no envelopes required.

It's important you are on time, I'd like to send these out no more than 3 days after the due date (which is Dec 1st, 2010)

Requirements: You will be making 5 + 1 (the +1 is for RMHSA*). I am hoping to get enough people to not have to give you back one of your own, so please make an extra for yourself. Please use good quality cardstock, at least 2 layers, and 1 embellishment. NVR on any of the products but please make your card something you would be proud to give and/or receive.

Recipes are not required but if you'd like to include one please feel free to do so on a sticky. Also include your real name and SCS name on a sticky on the card so that the recipient knows who to thank.

Mailing Instructions: Please place cards in a zip lock bag for waterproof purposes. Write the name of the swap, your SCS name and your real name on front of bag or on a piece of paper and place in bag. Please write legibly

Swap return: Please include a self-addressed envelope, but do not affix the postage to your return envelope just in case the cards you are getting don't fit and I end up having to get another envelope. You'll need to include 2 additional stamps on top of the amount it took to send to me to ensure enough postage. Extra postage will be returned. PLEASE SEND ONLY POSTAGE STAMPS, NO DATED STAMPS OR METERED MAIL. For any US swappers, please include $5 (either CDN or US) and I will return any change.

When you're ready send them along to:

Hi Ruth! I find myself in the same boat you do...there's always a shortage of cute/kids' birthday cards in my stash as well.

Please sign me up for 2 spots!

Thanks

Just in case it wasn't mentioned, or obvious... the "+1" card does not go to ME but to Ronald McDonald House Southern Alberta.

Check out the RMH charities thread here: Request for cards and/or stamping supplies for Ronald McDonald House!

hmm... debating if I should take that third spot for the final prize... since you are a CDN hostess and only 2hrs away... and the deadline is so far away... twisting my own rubber arm.

I will take a third spot please.

Thank you wanderer! Who knows, by the time Dec 1st rolls around we could be fast friends and you might be delivering them by hand while visiting for a play date!

I want to come on a play date too!!! But I think you guys are a little far for me. SCS is a great place to meet new people, I've actually met some great friends here and we meet at least once a month to stamp, eat, or whatever.

That sounds like fun Diana!
I'm in a monthly SU group and a monthly CTMH group (both of which are obligation parties where we trade who gets the hostess gift) and I host a monthly "come and crop" night, bring whatever, use my tools or inks or whatever, and just chit-chat. I use to host a montly stitch-n-b**** too but so few of my friends do needle crafts anymore.

My husband and I each take a night to ourselves in the week (where the other watches the three kids) I use all mine up in scrapping events lol

Wow Ruth! You sound like a busy woman! Isn't it great that your husband is so supportive of your craft? Mine is wonderful and hardly says a word (not even when I get a little carried away with supplies).

I don't mind at all Diana, thank you! I'm pretty tired today... partly cause my husband and I are doing a massive clean and rearrange of our multi purpose room (TV, entertaining, crafts and library) and partly cause I'm apparently an asthmatic and all the dust kicking up is making me have some issues lol. (I say "apparently" because it's a recent diagnosis and they think an allergy got morphed due to the changes my body went through with three pregnancies in four years).

Maybe a bit TMI but the longer my post the more excuses I have to sit and take a break guilt free

How about you? keeping busy this hot sunday afternoon?

I hope the reorganizing doesn't cause you too many problems. Feel better and make sure you rest and drink lots of water, especially because of the heat. It's not too hot where I am today. It rained for the better part of the day so it has relieved most of the humidity that we've been having. I was crafting all weekend...woohoo..yay me!! lol. Two of my 'crafty friends' whom I met on SCS (from the group I was telling you about) came over yesterday afternoon and just left about an hour ago. Besides the time we spent eating and about 5 hours for sleep, we were stamping and crafting away!

WOW 3 kids in 4 years!? That definately warrants some changes to your body. My youngest 2 are 11 months apart so I know what you mean!

It's been... an experience, that's for sure! Koen will be 4 on Jan 6th 2011, Kerowyn just turned 2 on July 2nd (so they're 4 days shy of 18 months apart) and Elora was born May 21st (23 months between her and her sister).

So tired! All the time! lol

But I wouldn't change it. Every one of them was expected and is cherished.

Are your two Irish Twins (born the same calendar year)? I can't imagine having had Kerowyn when Koen was still 11 months. He only started CRAWLING at 11 months (he has a big head, he would roll everywhere lol. He only walked, without support, at 14 months).

Your kids have such beautiful and unique names! I LOVE them!

yep..they are Irish twins. Sebastian was born on Jan 21, 2008 and Christian followed on December 28. Sebastian was not yet walking when we had Christian so it was really hard, especially when there was noone home to help me. Those months are a blur to me now...lol. My older 2 are significantly older, Tyler is 12 and Dylan is 10 so they help out a lot when they can (with the babies and with chores) so it really does help us out a lot.

I know what you mean about being tired ALL the time. I think I'm even tired when I sleep...lol. As you know, parents never REALLY sleep...always keeping our ears open for someone crying or odd noises... But regardless of it all, I am like you and would not change a single thing. They truly are blessings and we are thankful for each and every one of them every day (sleep deprived or not..lol)

Thank you, we wanted to make sure none of them were named after any of the many, many, people in either mine or Alan's family... for fear of offending the rest. My mom suggested Henrietta for Elora since she was born 4 days before my late Father's birthday (his name being Henry) but she was also born 2 days after Alan's Father who is named Dietrich (and adamanently doesn't want any grand kids named for him, he dislikes his name).

Well, at least you had the older two to help out hehe. Sleep? what's that?? I'm taking a mini vacation soon, just going to a hotel for two nights and leaving my husband with all three kids. He doesn't understand how there's not really a break even when I'm taking a break... so last night I wrote out exactly what happened when he gave me some "down time".
3:00pm down time started
3:02pm Kerowyn came and leaned on my leg with a chorus of "mommymommymommy"
3:04pm Alan came and got Kerowyn
3:06pm Alan interrupted to ask if he should feed the kids a snack
3:10pm Alan interrupted to ask what he should feed the kids for a snack
3:15pm Koen came and asked me for chocolate milk
3:17pm Alan interrupted to ask if it was okay to give Koen chocolate milk

I kept writing it all down until 4pm when my "hour of free time" was over then showed him. He was sheepish.

I know what you mean!! DH was supposed to be on 'baby duty' this weekend while I had my friends over, and although he did a pretty good job (for which I do appreciate very much) he doesn't really understand that concept either. lol...next time I should write down a timeline for him.

I remember Mother's Day, he said "I'll take care of the kids all day, you can just relax!" and I thought to myself "uh huh". So lunch comes around, "what should I feed the kids for lunch?" I was so drained from all the -thinking- I had to do -for him to look after the kids- that I just snarked at him, "oh, I don't know Alan... what would you feed them if I wasn't here to ask?"

I apologized right away but I think he realized how much I was doing for him to be able to do for me, if that makes sense lol

So much of what is draining is just the thinking and planning... men think differently and often forget about that aspect and so feel they are doing so much more when they cover the "doing" and not the "planning".

That is so true!! The thinking ahead and worrying is the stressful part. Whenever we have to do anything or go anywhere, I was always the one who checked to see if there's extra clothes in the diaper bag, diapers, wipes, snacks, juice, etc...until one day DH took them somewhere on his own and ran out of something (I'm not sure what) He must've just grabbed the bag (assuming that it was fully packed) and left. Needless to say, he realized how much "behind the scene" work I do that goes unnoticed.

Oooh I insist Alan have his own diaper bag for his outings. It's a more manly looking bag anyway, but I refuse to be responsible for stocking it for him. He wasn't very good at it until the day he went out with the kids when Kerowyn was still a baby. The diapers in his bag were a size too small for her because he so rarely used his bag and didn't check it before going out! He's been a bit better since then.

He's even adopted my bag-within-a-bag method. I have a small diaper bag (couple of baby diapers, ziplock with wipes, baggies for poopy diapers, one extra baby sleeper and a nursing blanket) that I put inside the larger beach-bag size diaper bag that contains the older kids pullups, a change of clothes for the older kids, the toddlers water bottles, sunscreen, et cetera and so forth. Basically it's a baby bag inside a toddler bag. Then if Alan and I have to go our seperate ways, typically one takes the baby (me) and the other takes the toddlers, we're set with minimal fuss.

Obviously the contents of my "toddler bag" change for the seasons. And there's still some baby related items in it... the smaller baby bag is just a "quick fix". It's about the size of a small purse cause I'm a light packer.

I should probably stop saying "the toddlers" I think Kerowyn might still be considered a toddler, but Koen is a pre-schooler now.

Hi Ruth. I would like 2 spots in this swap. I just finished a swap of birthday cards for girls and boys in the US and I think it might be cheaper to go with Canadian when I can.

Thank you for joining Bonneil! I amaze my American friends by showing off that I know how to spell Saskatchewan. Little do they know that it's on every Canadian 2nd grade spelling list lol

Last Saskatchewan Pirate is one of my favorite Canadian themed songs, so funny!

Hi everyone, it's been a crazy week here already and it's only Tuesday right? DD is 14 months and teething, I know it must be very painful for her but really can I not be more than 6 inches away from her at all times???? Lucky for me she's napping right now or she would be climbing up my legs.

I had a chance to read through the thread and had such a good laugh! Reminds me of many moments with my DH and DD. lol.

I would love to join you Ruth for a play date! I'm in Calgary often as my brother lives there so I can definetly hand deliver the cards when I get them completed.

Well better get some laundry done and start supper before my clinger wakes up. lol.

After reading all the way to the bottom of this thread I know I have to join now. LOL!! I can sooo relate to the 3 kids in 4 years, the diaper bag issues, the "alone time" that we do or do not get, and so on...

And I never have kids birthday cards ready to go when I need them so this is the perfect spot for me! In fact I will take 2 spots so I will be good to go for awhile!! Yay!!

I think one spot will be girly and one will be for boys.
