**Closed** Monthly Card Swap

*** MONTHLY CARD SWAP ***

COUNT 6 - full cards (5 1/2" X 4 1/4") each month. (no envelopes needed for this swap) NO VENDOR REQUIREMENTS
This is intended to be a 12 month swap. I will commit to all of you for 12 months, but don't let the long term commitment scare you off. Just communicate to me if you have a month where real LIFE gets nuts. We should have enough swappers to allow people to drop out if they need to, and have new people join. Again, just communicate with me (PM preferred) At the end of the day, this is a hobby, and never should we take it too seriously. :D

Description: Please use at least 2 layers & 1 embellishment! If you make a size different than will fit into an A-2, please include an envie. The card can be for any occassion as outlined in the monthly themes below. Please only choose ONE theme, all 6 cards should be the exact same.

Quantity: 6 -You will not get one of your own back, so make an extra one for yourself! I will try to swap in the same category you chose for your card. This will depend on how many cards are received in each category. Sign up for as many spots as you'd like, but please, make a different design for each spot you take. There are no extra requirements for the hostess, I will take a spot just like everyone else.

Vendor Products: There are NO vendor requirements for anything. I do ask you use very good quality cardstock (PTI/Gina K/SU).

Signature: Please put a sticky note or stamp your card with your signature, so everyone will know who to thank and who to leave a comment for! (please be considerate and do leave comments for those whom you receive)

Deadlines: Must be postmarked by the 25th and in my hands by the last day of every month. I promise to swap them out within a week. Any swaps received late will not be swaped out. Please post in the thread or send me a PM when your cards are postal. I will keep everyone updated on the status of receiving your swaps and when I return them postal.

Mailing instructions: Place swap cards in a quart-sized baggie for waterproof purposes. Write your real name, SCS name and swap name on a piece of paper or the baggie for identification purposes.

Swap Return: Please include self-addressed stamped envelope. The amount of postage on your SASE should be the same amount used to mail to hostess. Please include 2 additional stamps to insure enough postage to return swaps. Additional postage will be returned if not used. PLEASE SEND ONLY POSTAGE STAMPS, NO DATED STAMPS OR METERED MAIL--If you would rather use Priority mail, please include one $4.95 priority stamp and a self-addressed priority label (no need to include the two extra $.44 stamps if you are using priority mail service). I will provide priority envelope. If you are mailing from Canada please include $5 US to cover return postage, and I will return whatever is left to you.

Please post or PM me with any questions.

Please mail swaps to:
Amy Phelps
Monthly Card Swap
8126 Lockport Drive
Colorado Springs, CO 80920

A few extra notes on how I plan to make this swap a little different than others you may have participated in.

I respect all of your time and talent in participating in this swap and thus feel strongly that as your hostess I will communicate on this thread when your swaps are received, and when I mail them back to you. I ask that you also extend the courtesy of letting me know when you've mailed me your swaps, so I can be on the lookout for it.

I hope to add a little interest each month with perhaps posing a challenge. (use scrap ribbon, use a new technique, case someone in the gallery etc.)

I will NOT post everyone's cards, but encourage everyone to post their cards in their galleries and then post in this thread you've added to your gallery. If you'd like, just post an attachment to your post, if you do not have a gallery yet. I also highly encourage that we all support one another a leave a comment - we all love notes of encouragement.

I am only posting out a few months out, I really want your input of categories you may desire. Also, this way, hopefully you'll use some of your new goodies, and can't work ahead TOO far in advance. I just love to see the new stuff out there.

THEME OF THE MONTH:

October 1, 2011 - Female BD, Friendship/Thinking of you, Fall
**Extra Challenge: use a card sketch from the SCS challenges (July, August or Sept Challenges SCS340 - SCS350?) HERE

November 1, 2011 - Male BD, Sympathy (don't forget our pets), Thanksgiving
**Extra Challenge: use some paper from your stash that is over 2 years old and never used before

December 1, 2011 - Kids BD, Christmas/Winter, Thank you
**Extra Challenge: try a technique you've never tried before (can be a unique fold)

January 1, 2012 - Baby, Get Well, Valentine/Love
**Extra Challenge: CASE a card you have in your "favorites" folder here at SCS. If you don't have a favorites folder (by golly, start one :)) use an old scrapbook/card magazine for inspiration

February 1, 2012 - Easter/Spring, Female BD, Praying for you/Thinking of you
**Extra Challenge: make an extra card this month and send it to someone when you send in your swap.

March 1, 2012 - Wedding/Anniversary, Pet Sympathy, Congratulations
**Extra Challenge: A punch is not just a punch - get creative with your punches and use a punch in an unconventional way.

April 1, 2012 - Floral Focus, Masculine, Stamper's Choice
**Extra Challenge: Lets use our Scraps. It can be scrap paper, scrap ribbon, scrap punches, scrap whatever - more scraps used the better ;) (just saying) - see Post#165 for more clarification. ALSO, because we are using our scraps, it's doubtful that all 6 of your cards will be exactly alike. Just try to keep the general design the same. If you're using ribbon scraps, you probably don't have enough to do 6 cards, so you may have to switch it up a bit. IT'S OK - let your inner wild child let loose! :)

May 1, 2012 - Retirement, Teacher focus (thank you?), graduation
**Extra Challenge: How about a REAL challenge for most of us, CAS (clean and simple) make it one layer (eek) Go for it ladies!!!

June 1, 2012 - Patriotic, Kids/Teen BD, Hello/Blank **Extra Challenge: Let's try a fun fold this month. If you CAN, try to keep the finished size for the standard envelope, but if you must change the size, can you include an envelope as well??? Personally, I've never tried the tri-shutter fold - eek!

July 1, 2012 - Summer/beach, Feature an animal, Thinking of you **Extra Challenge: I thought this may be fun, now that we have a pretty sizable gallery for our very own swap. How about we CASE (copy and selectively edit) someone in this swap? You can go to my album where I have all our swaps, or if they have a gallery, go there and find a card to copy. You can be inspired by the design, the stamp set, the color combo, or like I usually do, the whole darned thing!!! LOL! Be sure to post here in this thread if you are participating and what card you are CASEing - won't this be fun???

August 1, 2012 - Back to school (teacher or kids focus), Sympathy/Praying for you, Masculine **Extra Challenge: From our very own Kelli, how about use a color we've not ever used. If that is too hard, then lets go ahead and repeat the use a Designer paper (dsp) you've never used, or haven't used in several years!!!

September 1, 2012 - Fall, Birthday, Thank you **Extra Challenge: Hmmmm, let's get specific this month. Let's try a technique I bet many of you (me included) have never tried. Lets try the shaving cream technique! You can find instructions HERE under resources/shaving cream. I'm thinking it will be LOVELY with the "Fall" theme. I've never tried it, and this will push me to do so. [/SIZE]

Suggestions

I'm not a big fan of Mother's Day, Father's Day swaps, I only have one of each, and personally I like to make my own, and never know what to do with all the extras. That is just me, but I'm open to including these "holidays" if you guys would love to swap some of these. Also, if there is a category that you know for sure you DON'T want returned swaps (for instance, Christmas, or Baby) just include a note in your swap and ask that I not give you any of that particular theme - I'll try my best to oblige.

Our first swap will be due October 1, 2011 (postmark Sept 25)

Hi Amy.. I will take a spot

Joi, great to have you! Gotcha down.

Amy

dsp245 08-13-2011 09:33 AM

Amy, thank you for doing this, I would like a spot for this swap.

But I was wondering if it is okay not to submit 6 cards that are the same designs as sometimes it's hard for me to do so. I can to the same theme (bday, thank you...etc) If it's not okay, please let me know.

Happy Saturday everyone!

amyphelps 08-13-2011 10:19 AM

Pam, great to see you as well. I PM'd you on your request ;)
I'll put you down.

Ladies, you'll notice I've added some extra challenges each month if you so desire. They are not required, but thought it could add some fun and additional challenge. I know some of you like to work ahead, so I wanted to get them posted asap. Once again, I'm open to other ideas as well. Post here if you participated in the extra challenge and I'll see if I can come up with something "extra" for you. :)
Have a good evening.

I've not done a monthly card swap. If I sign up am I committed to all of the months? Thanks; this looks fun!

Monthly swap

Amy thanks for the invite, I am sure you will have better luck with this then Courtney did.

I would like to come aboard with you. I do have a few question/suggestions.

Can we either make a month of pet sympathy, or do one during the regular sympathy spot?

The challenge, I have not done before, do we make one card and post it, or do we also make 6 and send them to you?

Instead of having double categories how about animals, flowers, cupcakes or punches, etc.?

Just my thoughts,

Tammy

amyphelps 08-14-2011 06:46 PM

I've got this question a lot, and can see why. I'll update the original post for more clarity. This swap is meant to be a 12 month swap, however I do understand that life happens and a whole year may scare some people off. I want people to join and have fun with it, not stress that 12 months may be too much.
I will commit to YOU all for 12 months, but please feel free if you need to step back for a month, just let me know so I know how many swaps to expect. My intentions are to cut it off at 20 participants (God willing) and that should be enough participants to keep it flowing each month.
Clear as mud???
Yes, it's a 12 month swap, but no, don't let that scare you off.
I hope that helps.
Hugs
Amy

Thanks Tammy for your thoughts. I do appreciate any feedback. I like the pet sympathy idea. I just needed one for my sister who had to put their family pet down recently. I will put it as a category, and "suggest" it in the sympathy one as well - great idea!

As for the challenge. You can do the challenge as part of the swap that month (or not). So, for October if I wanted to make 6 fall themed cards, I can up the challenge by not only do a fall theme, but using a card sketch in the SCS challenge gallery. This is, again, optional.

I'm not sure I understand your question about the animals/cupcakes etc. I you asking that I use some of these specifics in the extra challenges (red)? I just want clarification, not sure I understand.

Are you in Tammy? It would be nice to swap with you again.
Good Night swappers.

Amy yes sign me up.

(I'm not sure I understand your question about the animals/cupcakes etc. I you asking that I use some of these specifics in the extra challenges (red)? I just want clarification, not sure I understand.)

Sorry to confuse you instead of using female birthday 4 or 5 times throughout the year I thought making the card theme animals or cupcakes, or flowers could be the theme.

Hope this explains it better.

Thanks, ;)
Tammy

Good Morning All,

I love the extra challenges Amy. How fun. I will start on my cards this weekend.

Ok, Tammy, gotcha. I now understand. Yes, yes we can add some of those themes. I'll add them to the suggestions. Great ideas. Precisely why I didn't want to post out too many months, as I want it to be everyone's swap (not just my ideas) I feel it makes it more personal and more fun. I understand that question now.
Glad to have you. I've got you down.

Good morning Joi. Now don't you go and get too far ahead of yourself.... you never know what we may change up or add an extra challenge piece to it. I wouldn't want you to regret being toooo ahead of yourself. :) I know, it's tempting to just work several months in advance to get it off your plate. I encourage you to just work a couple ahead, if you must ;) .

Happy Monday.

Okay... there is NO way I can pick up until January... Maybe December. But I'm subbing and will jump in just as soon as I can.

For future months, be thinking of other holidays and I have a list of Wacky things people celebrate by month.. such as National Pizza Month or Grandparents Day that I'd be glad to share with you for ideas.

Kelly, it will be great to have you when you can. Just let me know when you feel you're ready. At this point I have no plans to "close" it - just depends if it gets too big to handle. I'll let you know if that happens. I doubt it.
Stop by and say hello and see all the fun :)

Hey ladies, I'm going to throw this out there. Would anyone be willing to start Sept 1? I know it only leave 10 days to get them in? If we get 7 takers, I'll go ahead and start Sept 1.
Ideas for themes?
End of summer? Friendship? ???? I'm just trying to think what would prompt me to send a card to someone this time of year? Missing you, lets get together for coffee? Welcome back school/Bible Study/ etc. I'm at a loss - if we can come up with a couple of themes, I'm willing if you are. ...
Let Me Know. (LMK)

I'd be up for that! When we get into the groove, does anyone think it'd be fun to have a Facebook page or group?

lrzaworski 08-17-2011 05:42 AM

I think that would be a great idea!:p

Mine will take 2 weeks to get there....so I won't have time to get them in for Sept 1.

I'm in! And I would prefer to start in October....Septmeber is just a bit too quick for me as I'm trying to finish up some other projects before the end of the month...but if you do want to start Sept I can probably figure something out. :)
