Hi, Patty.
You should check the 'get it together' threads on SCS. I know there was a swap earlier this year in Poughkeepsie and there's one every year near Syracuse or Utica. A few friends and I often travel to those from the Buffalo, NY area. It's a couple hours drive but the events are SOOO worth it. There are girls who come up from PA all the time. Maybe some of them are close enough to you to arrange a car-pool? Just a thought.

I've been looking in the 'get together' forums for a shoebox swap close to me, but when I google the address they have been about a 2 hour drive from me. I was trying to find one a little closer. 2 hours each way is a little far for me to drive.

Actually I should host one myself....hmmm

There is one just outside of Buffalo in the spring and in the fall one near Canadaigua...I drive to each of them and the Canandaigua one is probably 3 or more hours from me. I have a good girlfriend that comes along and we make a weekend of it. It's totally worth the drive. But then again, I have driven up to 8 hours each way for a workshop I feel is worth the time investment and drive.

Good Morning! Sorry about not being here much on the weekend. It's hard when hubby is home to have time for my stamping. I'm off to catch up on the posts above.

That sounds like fun! I wouldn't be able to make a weekend out of it though because I have small kids and my husband isn't good with the kids. Well, I shouldn't say that...he's good with our 7 year old, but the 3 year old he's still not great with. Once she gets a little older I'll be more comfortable leaving him with them for a day or so.

Love that Tigger, Barb! When my older daughter was little everything had to be Winnie the Pooh! Oh, I miss those days! I remember when we went to see the Tigger Movie and she cried all the way home.

Actually I was just re-reading your requirements and I see that you are not welcoming Canadian swappers, so I won't be able to join in. Good luck with your swap.

I'm so sorry. It's not that I am not welcoming Canadian swappers, but I will most likely be giving SU prizes and since I am a SU demo I am not allowed to ship SU merchandise outside of the US. Plus it's just easier for me to ship within the US. Thanks for your understanding.

I noticed that your location was listed as NE PA, but I forgot to PM you and ask where. That's not too far from me at all..See, you should host a shoebox thingy..not that I know that it is, but with us so close together, we know there would be at least 2 ppl there..LOL. We should get together sometime. I have an 8 year old daughter who loves to meet new ppl.

I homeschool my dd and her teacher lives in Mt. Top. I use a virtual charter school to homeschool and it's fabulous.

So, now I need to know....how does a shoebox swap work? I've heard about them, heard people love them, but not exactly sure what to do...or does the hostess tell us what's expected?

I'm not 100% sure since I've never been to one, but I sort of get the idea. Basically each person designs a card and you need to make a sample card that everyone can follow. All the supplies needed to make that card need to be cut and ready with directions for everyone (and placed in your shoebox). Then everyone would go around the room to different tables and make everyone's cards. You would need to have enough supplies in your shoebox for everyone to make 1 card and generally the cards need to be easy enough to be completed in about 15 minutes.

Sometimes there are name tag contests, usually there is a lunch, and some even have 'for sale tables' where you can bring your items to sell or trade with each other. I think the hostess gets +2 of your swap cards that you design- I think.
