Sorry... Michelle, I wasn't ignoring you - I was on the morning commute. So, yes, Brock does work today. I'm glad you have the extra time off to prepare for guests on Thursday. Cool! (The Walmart ad has an HP laptop for $279... I don't know if it's any good.)

Hi Roxane!

I know it's challenging posting from a phone when we're not used to it. I do it once in a while, but more often I just read from my phone but wait to post when I get back to the computer. LOL!

Good Morning ladies. Happy Turkey week. I actually cooked a turkey yesterday because it was a freebie from the grocery store and my brother gets one that we will use for our dinner on Thursday. Mom and I don't have any freezer space to store a full bird, so I cooked mine, ate it and froze the meat for future use. I must say she was Delicious.

I was supposed to work today because my sil had the day off and I wouldn't need my mom to watch my nephew................but sil has Bronchitis or something worse and is home today trying to rest up and feel better. So yesterday we changed the work schedule and I'll work tomorrow and mom will watch my nephew. Then at 1am dd9 woke up with the stomach bug, got her settled down by 2am and then I was awake every half hour or so. She slept until 9 and is feeling much better. So I'm home working on some "home" stuff.

DD18 comes home tomorrow night about Midnight. Hubby will meet her at the bus at that time.

Jeanette, I love your husband's Brock story on Facebook. Us mom's are pretty smart.

Hi Linda.... the ever-flexible supermom! Wow! lots of switching around. I'm sorry your DD is sick; hopefully it's a very short bug and she doesn't share it with anyone!!! Thanks, I thought DH's Brock story was fun......... though I keep telling him he's writing my book.

I don't know if I told you all this, but about 3-4 years ago I had the idea to write a book of "Lessons Learned from Brock" where I would tell Brock stories and then apply a lesson I've learned from him related to that story. I ran the idea by my DH, who very quickly shot my idea down... saying NO ONE would read that book. It wouldn't sell. So...... I sadly didn't write it. Now, he keeps writing those kinds of pieces and putting them on FB........... but I'm not bitter. LOL!

Hi Barb! Good to see you finally made it to the forest. Kinda slow in your old age, aren't you? Tee Hee!!!

This is DH's most recent Brock post on FB...

Brock likes to have some control over his world. That is normal. We all do. Brock stakes his claim of independence each time he gets into my truck. He has learned how to close the door enough to make it latch but not be completely shut. He knows this irritates me and he has made a game out of it. He will get in, partially shut the door and wait for me to give him the “look” or to grumble “Brock sh...ut the door right”. He may then partially shut the door 3 or 4 more times before getting it right. He might even grin while he is doing it. He has made a game out of it. He does it just to see my ire. It’s a game and he is winning the game. Now my wife Jeanette is smarter than I am. He does the same thing in her car. But she keeps a pack of tic-tac candy in her car and if he will close the door right on the first try he gets a tic-tac. About 70% of the time he will close the door correctly on the first attempt and gets a tic-tac. If he doesn’t she simply says “Oh, so sad, Brock does not get a tic-tac. Now shut the door right.” What a novel idea! How clever of her to create a win-win situation. Brock has learned to make life a game and he enjoys playing the game. If life is a game then we ought to try to win. Winning is so much easier when you pass out rewards for what you desire rather than grumbling about what you don’t desire. Wonder if I will ever learn that?

DH also wrote these on two other days...

I take a walk with my 27 year old autistic son Brock about three times a week. We usually walk in a park and through a cemetery and it takes us about 45 minutes. I cannot say I always enjoy the walk but the activity does burn off some calories and hopefully make us a little heart healthier. When I walk I go for these reasons and my goal is to get it done. Brock comes because I ask him to, and for the adventure, and perhaps just because he likes being with me. Our walk takes us past a high chain link fence. Its fall and the trees have shed their leaves and many of those leaves have become lodged in the links of the fence. I probably would not have even noticed or at least not cared. But Brock has an eye for detail and he does not like things out of place. Since the leaves are not supposed to be there he stops and picks the leaves out one by one. This has become a routine part of the walk and I grow a little impatient with it. “Come on bud, we got to go” I say. But his pace does not hasten as methodically he continues his task of helping things be the way they are supposed to be. I watch and it occurs to me that foolishly at times we are so busy getting the events of life “done” that we fail to realize the importance of slowing down and restoring decency and order to things along the way.

It is Halloween. The door bell rings and my son Brock rushes to the door. On the porch is a whole slew of little people dressed up in funny outfits. The look up, hold out a bucket, and say "trick or treat". Brock insist that he is the one who gets to put the candy in the bucket and he does so - two pieces in each bucket. The act repeats itself throughout the evening. The kids rush off to the next ...house none the wiser of how important this annual ritual is to Brock and how happy it has made him. Happiness is such a simple thing and yet so elusive. In the words of the Shaker Elder Joseph Brackett: "'Tis the gift to be simple, 'tis the gift to be free 'Tis the gift to come down where we ought to be, And when we find ourselves in the place just right, 'Twill be in the valley of love and delight."

awww... thanks, Barb.

But if I wrote the book now, everyone would just think I stole the idea from my DH, even though I was the one who had the idea first.

Jeanette - I agree with Barb! You should get to work on a book!! I also almost cried when I read the stories.

Keep a journal and write things like that in it. It will mean SO much to your family and friends!!

LOL, Barb, it probably is. At least DH hopes so, since he stole my idea.

Janet, I do keep tidbits of stories in a notebook. Brock is such fun!

You can put an explanation in the acknowledgements or introduction. Besides most of the people who will buy and love your book may not even know your family!

Now all the Christmas boxes are in the living room..about 80% will be donated...I am going to ask the church if they have a family in need or Saint Clare in for the homeless needs it..otherwise goodwill

So I am meeting my goals...what am I gonna do with myself!

BUT...and this is HUGE I don't know if I can show my face in the forest!!! Now we all lobe our Forest...and we know she has a great tradition of the Christmas trees...I have been searching for a truly Canadian ornament for the international tree...but alas...have not found the right one yet. If anyone sees one let me know or else I will find it for her birthday...ooopps I fortgot to tell Forest not to read that part!

I should explain...In the spring I plan on putting the townhouse..3 stories..3 bedrooms..on the market and moving into an apartment so I don't have to deal with stairs. I am hoping to move into a 2 bedroom so I can have a craft room. So I am basing the reduction on the decorating my friends with apartments have,,no more 8 foot tree with a train around it...the cat will be disappointed....LOLOLOLOL

Good morning ladies. Happy Turkey day preparations. Not too stressed here, though I assume my mom has our turkey for our Thursday dinner. My brother was supposed to get one from work. I took the easy way out this year, I'm cooking the turkey, potatoes and butternut squash. Mom is making her dinner rolls (delicious!!) and apple and pumpkin pie. My sil is bringing a salad and the kids are setting the table. Just need to pick up my craft stuff off the table and we're good.

Good Morning Forest Friends!

I poofed yesterday - worked and worked and worked.... and barely made a dent in my To-Do List. UGH!

Janet, I loved that Riley - I'd seen him on another blog already. Too Cute!

Kelly, I think it's great that Riley is going to have matching/coordinating sentiments! And YAY! for your niece. Oh my though! That reminds me... I still haven't purchased and read her book, as I told you I would. I need to get on that Sooner than SOON!

Awwww... thanks Gael! I'm blushing! (Did you know I've already written a book? No one bought it. LOL! It was never for sale. A few years ago I was commissioned to write the children's version of the history of our Illinois missions organization for our 100th Anniversary. It was such fun!)

Lynn........ hmmmmmmmmmmmmm... I vaguely remember that name. Wonder who she is. Seems she's been kicked out of the forest for getting rid of 80% of her Christmas decorations. LOL! Lynn....... come back!!! Of course we love you!!!!!!!! Besides, when we moved to our teeny tiny house, we, too, had to purge and get rid of a lot of Christmas stuff. BTW, I wish you well in your move. Will Grumpy move with you - the 2 bedrooms had me confused.

LJ, you're right. I learnn from Brock often. I sure do love that guy!

Michelle, how are the Thanksgiving preparations going? (cooking yet??? We don't want that dream to come true, you know. LOL!)

April, how are you doing? I haven't heard your Thanksgiving plans, I don't think. Are you cooking for the family?

Mae, it's good to see you! You've been in my thoughts/prayers!

Linda, your Thanksgiving dinner plans sound great. Share the work and make it as easy as possible so the focus can be on enjoying family and not working yourself to death.

Brock seemed to do okay last night. He was happy to go to McD's, but then as soon as that was over he wanted to go to Virginia. LOL! He's persisitent. Today is his Thanksgiving Dinner at work - so no lunch box. He's handling that okay, too. A church in our community (not ours) prepares and serves a traditional Thanksgiving Dinner to all the workers at the sheltered workshop where Brock works. That's very nice of them!!!

I have much to do today and tomorrow before DD gets here - finish a couple of design team cards, pick up the messes in my house, vacuum/dust, decide what we're having to eat for Thanksgiving Dinner, go to the store, do the laundry, do the bulletin, etc. YIKES! So much to do; so little time!

Hugs for all!!!
