Default GOING POSTAL: Rainbow cards

One of our swappers flaked, and with this type of swap it is important that all slots be filled so that everyone gets back a complete rainbow. Lucky for all of us, two Angels have stepped up to fill in the gaps. Thank you, LabradorDork and Crazycardlady!

I will swap these cards as soon as those sets are received. Thanks for your patience.

My mother use to tell me that February was the shortest month because it was the dreariest. She may have been right. So I say we start thinking of Spring with sets of Rainbow cards. Some of you already know how this works – I’ve held a couple of these and they have always produced amazing results.

Choose a color in one of the Rainbows listed in Message #2. Make 8 cards with that color as the dominant feature. It does not have to be the only color, but it should be obvious in looking at the card what the color selection is. Mail all 8 cards to me. Your return envelope will include one card in each color, including one of your own. Yes, you will get one of your own cards back.

Description requirement: Full Size Card - 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 It could be a regular full size card, Fancy folds, pop ups any style card are always welcome.

Quantity: 8 No need for a “plus one” – I will be participating in the swap. I’ll take the last color selected in each Rainbow.
Vendor products: No vendor restriction, but please use only good quality card stock. Please use at least 2 layers & at least one embellishments.

Due: April 30, 2013. I will swap them out within the week and get them sent right back out

Mailing instructions:
Packaging: Put your cards in a zip lock bag with the swap name, your real name, and your SCS name. Please send a stamped envelope (with the same postage as it took to send to me) plus two extra stamps just in case needed. Thanks!

DO NOT send metered postage as we all know they only work for day of purchase!! If you would rather use Priority mail, please include one $5.60 priority stamp and a self-addressed priority label. I will provide priority envelope. If you are mailing from Canada, please send me a PM and we will work something out for postage, like you including a souvenir and me covering postage. Or just include $10 US to cover return postage, and I will return whatever is left to you. (Please read message #41.)

When you are ready to mail your cards, mail them to:

Hi Terrie,
Long time no speak. i hope all is well.

I would like to try an orange set of cards please. You can choose the group you think will help even things out.

Quick question, are we allowed to put an actual rainbow on our cards?

Hi Terrie! I love your rainbow swap...so much that I'm going to follow suit with the others in the beginning who signed up...can I have a spot in each group and a different color for each one? Guess I better get busy since that means I just signed up to make 64 cards! LOL!!

It has been a long time, Lori. I took a break from the board for a little while, when making the swap deadlines started to feel like a chore. It's important that these things remain fun!!

Your cards can certainly include a rainbow if you want. The idea is that when we look at the card it is obvious which color is the focus.

Glad you found the swap! I've got you down for one orange spot.

Hi and thanks.
I agree that this has to remain fun. It's way too easy to get caught up.
I promise, the orange will be very obvious

I would love to participate, but this particular mailing method does not work for me. Not with the postal clerks here.

What is the issue, Angie, and how can we make it work?

Perhaps you could include a Canada souvenier (I've never been to Canada) or something, and I will cover the return postage.

All I know is that I tried to participate in another swap, and I asked the postal clerk how I would be able to include a SASE, and they said it was not possible. I didn't know how to approximate what the return postage might be?? Long story short, I had to spend $20.00 just for the shipping. And I didn't get any kits back-at my request because I could only mail the card kits and could not figure out the SASE thing. I guess it seems obvious to most people how to do this kind of mailing, but the how-to's of it seem to completely elude me.

None of the Canadian swappers that are in any of my swaps try to use stamps on their returns. All of them include money - usually 2-5 dollars for their returns (depends on the type of swap and the weight involved). Most hostesses will list a suggested $ amount for the Canadians so they don't have any hassles at the border. They will purchase the correct amount of postage and return the change in the return packages.

Any time you have mailing questions, contact your hostess or one of the Moderators and they or we will be happy to help you get things figured out

Hey Angie, I'm a Canadian swapper as well. I have had some frustrating mailing experiences sending from here but a little bit of patience and a whole bunch of hope and I think I have it now. I try to keep my packages as flat as possible to go as letter mail rather than as a small packet. For a swap like this, because of the number of card spots I signed up for I know I'm looking at a bigger postage bill. I do the same thing as our American friends but I don't put on the stamps? I send some $ instead. Every swap ive been in the hostess has always sent meback any change.
Another trick ive picked up is mail way early.
If I can help at all pleasedo let me know. I know it took me a long time.

Again, thank you for the suggestions. I think due to postal costs, (and the fact that I'm likely sending to the U.S., I think) I'll sit this one out. But I'm sure ya'll will make some awesome rainbow cards! I wish I had enough "postal money" to participate in all of the swaps I'm interested in, but we all have to pick and choose, I guess.

Sorry you can't join us this time, Angie. I will gladly cover the return postage in exchange for a small surprise in your envelope if you change your mind. Just drop me a PM.

And KK, I'll gladly put you down for a green slot. Amazing when they speak to you, huh?

If anyone is thinking about joining and can't decide what color to select - the brown slots are the perfect excuse to use the Kraft cardstock cards that we have in our collection. They are a lovely shade of brown

I'm digging out my chocolate stamps! Oh wait, they are really stamps and not chocolate huh? Bummer. Oh well, maybe I'll still use them and then go get some chocolate to celebrate.

You're right. Kraft cardstock is a good choice for this brown slot for the challenge. You got me thinking about it.

As the others said, using chocolate stamps is another good idea.

Both of which need real chocolate to be fully inspired. Make mine dark chocolate!

Happy Valentine's Day everyone! Hope your heart is happy!
