Thumbs up I'm back from vacation!

Hello all! I am back from vacation and glad to see we had some activity with the poll! So I will answer my own poll, so you can get to know your hostess a little better . . .

Now, for those of you who are playing along, it is optional, but there is a surprise in it for all of you who finish the poll and that must include replying to question #4 and posting once your cards have gone in the mail! So don't forget that part too!

Hope to "meet" more of you! Thanks for participating!

1. How are you Military affiliated? Navy Wife - 10 years SWO community

2. Where are you stationed? San Diego, CA waiting on new orders!

3. What Military theme did you choose? Mine's a surprise

4. Please post when you are done with your swap and it has gone postal!
I am not quite done, I have the design and cut all the paper and left on vacation. I am having a massive crop night at my house this weekend (tomorrow) with friends and finishing my swap cards then hitting my StampMania V shoebox cards.

Ok, thanks ladies and thanks for the tracking number, that'll help! OMG! I bet that poor base NEX and Commissary is wiped clean huh!? I remember being there and we would scramble to go shopping before all the Kitty Hawk wives would buy everything out, much less the crew when they got in!

Don't you just love it when they come in early! and of course when they do, my house is never ready! And when it is . . . they get extended!

Enjoy! and I'll post when the cards arrive!

As a Kitty Hawk wife, i resemble that remark!!I am glad they got there and in such good time!! confirmation makes all the difference! I am glad you like them. I figured we could use a different color scheme. As a military wife, I sort of get a little over done with the red, white and blue. Not that I don't love it, but sometimes some green is great!!

Okay, as an Army wife, I had no idea what you ladies were talking about. I kept trying to figure out what a "Kitty Hawk" was and why it was keeping Tia from getting things done and how it was affecting what was available at the Exchange. Then by post #49 I figured out, it was a Navy ship! D'OH!!!

I'm glad that all your cards are arriving. I'm anxious to see them. Anna, mine are almost ready to go into my shoebox for next Saturday.

P.S. Sorry Tia, mine are of the "Red, White & Blue" theme. I hope you like them. I'm just not creative enough to have come up with anything different for a Military Card Swap!

Have a great weekend!

Girl, I love red, white and blue!! You should have seen my house before I moved to Japan. It was decor by warren Kimble. Now I have sort of a Asian/Americana/nautical mix. After our next tour in Italy, it is gonna be hard to hold me down to a style!!! I just thought it would be nice to make something different. I am sure you are very creative!! Can't wait to see your card!

yes, the Kitty Hawk is a carrier. But worse is it has a battle group, which means more ships in and out at the same time. But she's decom-ing in january, so she leaves Yokosuka in May for good. the GW is going to come here, that is when the fun will begin. I leave for Italy just in time. The wives are always here, it's the single sailors and the ships stores that take everything.

Hello ladies, I am on Spring Break and am checking in one last time before I get back. I will check in when I return in about a week.

In the meantime get those creative juices flowing and, this is just for fun . . .

TELL US A LITTLE ABOUT YOURSELF!
1. How are you Military affiliated? Spouse, mom, girlfriend, etc? Air Force Spouse

2. Where are you stationed? Where do you live? Osan AB in South Korea

3. What Military theme did you choose? "Welcome to the Neighborhood"

4. Please post when you are done with your swap and it has gone postal!
Sent 4/12 - After sending everything off I wish I would have gone with a better color scheme - so I apologize for that, but I was trying to use some of the paper up that I've had for a while.

Extra - if you are still hiding behind your SCS name, don't be shy! Share your "real world" name with us please! First names are fine!

Lisa Teague
lteague

Anyone who answers ALL Four questions will receive an additional surprise in their swap from the Hostess - that's me!!

Thanks for playing! Happy Spring everyone!

Sorry I just couldn't help it . . . so you resemble that remark? Which means, YES you are one of the wives that runs out and buys up the whole commissary for her DH's return?

. . . . or perhaps you resent the remark?

Yea, yeah I know I was one of them too, though my husband was on one of the smaller boys, USS O'Brien (decommed '04). I remember those single sailors coming home and parking themselves in the electronics department and Starbucks. I am sure base has grown some since we've been there (left in May of '04)

How much longer do you have in Japan?

And don't worry about the color scheme, we need a little of it all. If there had been NO red, white and blue, it would have been a surprise, and the other color schemes give the swap balance, so it's all good and I am anxious to see more!

I will post them all to the gallery when they arrive and have been returned. I will also link the page to this thread so you can see them all online as well.

Keep 'em coming . . .

How fun to learn more about eachother and the other branches (yes Rebecca, Kitty Hawk is a ship - a GREAT BIG one!) I used to have absolutely NO knowledge about Army what-so-ever - except now, thanks to one of my favorite shows - Army Wives - I now know your lives are so full of drama!
HA ha - LOL! great show though!

Sofar, we have the following branches represented . . .

Army - 1; Str8Fan
Navy - 3; StampFan, Craftin' Fool & Groovey...
Air force - 2 ; Lisa & Annette
Marines - 0
Coast Guard - 0

Carol, wasn't sure of the branch you were affiliated with and the others haven't played along . . . . yet Hint hint!

No, I don't resent it!! Please, it's worse when they LEAVE!! I had to get a few things yesterday, the KH is leaving this morning , and there were all the ship store people buying EVERYTHING. Good thing I shop out in town a little!!
As for the colors, I guess I took the ' this is not for the guys' thing to heart!! There will be PRETTY FLOWERS for the wives!

Dear Anna,

Thanks for charitably waiting on my cards (which I sent already), but I hope it actually won't be a real-life wait. I have time on my side because the package was so light that it went out First Class, which from here is the same speed as Priority, and because San Diego should not be too "far" from the APO in San Francisco/Seattle. I hope!

I didn't realize until today what a disorganized dork I had been. I somehow was thinking Apr. 15, not Apr. 12 like I should have, and then I missed the post office's open hours even for the 15th.

Soooooo, if the pkg arrives too late to be helpful (hoping not), plz take some cards for your effort & just send the remainder back to this dorky AF wife.

Regardless, thank you very much for hosting!

Pax et bonum,

Carol

Thumbs up Update

Ok Ladies, I tried to give as much time as possible to let all the swaps come in, especially those that I knew were postal. And as of Sunday, April 27 we are short TWO swaps.

"Lake Mama" did get to me finally and it looks like she was called out on last minute TDY (Temporary Duty) for the last month and was unable to get her swaps out prior to departing. So in keeping with the spirit of our swap, we understand how military lifestyle can be hectic! Unfortunately we did have one swapper that I barely heard from yesterday who simply did not complete her committment, so I will be completing an extra swap myself to compensate for the TDY and I am trying to get a local Swap Angel who can help out with the second. If she doesn't pan out then you all may get an extra one of your own swaps back. Sorry for the disappointment.

I thank you all who did participate and helped make this a successful swap. All the cards are great and I know you will enjoy them all. I will post again when they are all mailed out. I will be stamping and swapping out tonight and should get to the PO no later than Wednesday!

Thank you!
Anna

Default New Navy Show on PBS

Thanks, I'm still working on that second card this morning. I was happy to find this great program on last night to keep me company as I stamped. Rebecca, this might be good for you . . . It was called "Carrier" on PBS. It is a 10 part series, parts 1&2 played yesterday. It was a really cool episode because it's not military PR fluff - it's the real deal! I wonder if it hit the editing floor at all! Well check it out here; PBS 'Carrier' to find your local listings.

BTW Rebecca, I did get your pm, thank you!

ok, back to finish those cards so I can get these to the PO!

Anna--guess what? I did catch those episodes of Carrier last night. It was very interesting. My cousin used to be stationed on the USS Enterprise and he would try to tell me what it was like and I just couldn't fathom it. This gave me a bit more information but I still can't imagine being on one for six months. Thanks for thinking of me though!

Thumbs up Military Culture Swap - Swapped Out

Ok Ladies - the swaps are postal! I got them out today so hopefully you'll get them soon. If you remember, please shoot me a pm or post here so I'll know when they've arrived.

Lisa, I am having trouble with the PO accepting your postage (the premade label). I am going to try again tomorrow - with a more flexible agent! If they say no again, I'll just slap some postage on there and call it a day! I'll let you know!

Thanks to everyone for a job well done! Loved them all!

Anna,

I received my package on Friday, but my computer is in the shop. I'm at a friend's house right now and wanted to let you know!

Ladies--your cards are absolutely beautiful!!! I love every card!!! I'm going to be very picky about who I'll be giving these cards to. I may just have to keep them and then case them as needed!

Anna--thanks for hosting such a great swap!!

Dear Anna,

Thank you so much for hosting this swap. As it happened, I had an accident and your package greeted me on the return from the hospital, such a nice time to get happy mail! Thank you for hosting, and thank you to everyone who made such nice cards!

Thank you for your kind regards, I am doing well, so do not worry.

A question to all: does anyone know which manufacturer makes the sentiment "Greetings from our shore to yours" ? I would love to get ahold of that stamp...

Everyone, your cards are super!!!

Pax et bonum,

Carol
