Hi Sherry: How are your brother and sister-in-law doing? I sent them each a card last week. Also, how are YOU doing with all this? Situations like a family member seriously ill put stress on the whole family. Please let us know. Kay
Regina is in Rehab. She is in quite a bit of pain as you can imagine. She is still running a fever. She goes to see her surgeon on Friday and then to the infection doctor on Monday so I will give updates then. I must say it is very tough seeing what they are going through at such a young age. I live in Colorado and they live in NC so I don't see them much. I think it is really taking a toll on my brother. He works long hours all day and then takes her a meal each night and stays with her a few hours. The drive is about 25 minutes each way so he says that the drive is even tough when you are so tired all the time. Oh...the tornado that went through NC last week that made national news....well, it went directly behind the rehab center and did no damage to it but devastated the areas in it's path. They were real lucky! Thanks for the cards. I try to update when I have any new news. Hopefully early next week I will have better news.
UPDATE - Jan 26 - Regina went to 2 of her doctors. The infection is still very bad and the blood count has not improved too much. She will continue to get antibiotics 3 ways for the next month and then they will check the blood counts again for improvement. If it is not better, they will have to do surgery to clean out the infection. MRSA is very hard to kill. They said to expect a miinimum of 3-6 months to get rid of it before they can do surgery again to replace the hip. They took out half of the 92 staples. The rest stay in around the wound area until it heals a little better. Her spirits are better this week. My brother told her that they would have to build a new home for her special needs and she has that to look forward to. She says she is fighting this - which is a BIG change from several weeks ago when she wanted to die. So, things are looking up for her. She will never be able to walk freely again but she has accepted that. She LOVES all the GORGEOUS cards and my brother said he got one and loved his! They have the cards on a HUGE bulletin board and also on the wall. They are truly appreciated!!!
Your updates are so appreciated. I continue to lift John and Regina up in my prayers. I plan on sending another card this week. It's wonderful to hear that her spirits are somewhat lifted!

Feb 22 Update...Regina got test results back today and her blood count has improved which means the infection could be getting better. They still think it's at least 6 more weeks before she can have another hip replacement surgery. She goes to the orthopedic doctor next week so I will update when I get news. Until then...thanks so much for making her days a little sunnier. She surely is enjoying all the beautiful cards!
Thank you for keeping us informed about Regina's progress .... it's a privilege to keep Regina and John in my prayers and to send encouraging cards to help brighten her day. I pray that the Lord will shower them with strength and encouragement to meet each day's difficulties.

March 1 UPDATE: Good news! Regina is finally at home now. She has a full-time CNA to help her during the day as she is still bed-ridden. She had all of her staples removed, finally. They can not put the hip replacement in until all of the MRSA infection is gone. The blood counts were a little better so there is hope. It will be a minimum of 8 weeks before she will have surgery again. Thanks for the prayers and beautiful cards. She loves them!
Fantastic news!! I'm so grateful to the Lord for answered prayers!

UPDATE APRIL 3....Regina went to the orthopedic doctor this past week. They have decided to wait until May to see how her blood counts are then, before doing another hip replacement surgery. The MRSA infection needs to be gone before putting metal back into her body or the infection will attack the metal and have to be removed again. They are hoping that she will have the surgery in May so she can move forward but time will tell. Thanks for all the cards and prayers! She loves them!
Sherry ... I just completed another card for Regina yesterday and am going to the post office in a few minutes to get it mailed. Your update is so much appreciated .... Regina and John remain in my thoughts and prayers!

UPDATE - May 1
Regina went to the drs today. Her blood counts are a tiny bit better but not good enough to do surgery. They think there could still be infection in there and they can't afford to open her up again and take a chance of not being able to do the surgery again. Her body has been through 8 or 9 surgeries in the same area so it is in very very bad shape. She is finally all closed up but my brother says her whole leg looks so bad. She is very depressed and cries all the time. Who wouldn't after all she has been through. They don't know how long it will be before putting her hip back in but probably a few more months. There is also a chance they may have to amputate it. So, i'm sure she would still enjoy cards since she never gets out of the house and is pretty depresses. Thanks so much for everything!
Sherry: I'll send Regina another card and send up another prayer for her and your brother. I feel so bad for both of them and for you also. You must be terribly worried about them.
