Default Hi Everybody!

I just got a request from Marilyn at the Milwaukee RMD House! She asked if we could send her some sympathy cards. I've hesitated sending sympathy cards in the past, but I guess if she is asking, then the residents must be asking for them. Thanks in advance for all your help!

I haven't done a sympathy card in a long, long time, but I will do the best I can. I will let you know when and how many before I send them.

Unfortunately in the lives of those who use the Ronald McDonald Homes around the world, Sympathy cards are needed far too often.

Thanks again for your help and support!

Thumbs up You're quite welcome!

I'm a visual learner, and it originally took me FOREVER to read, understand, and post a link in my siggy file. AND then, it was just a copy and pasted link to this thread!

It only took me a few seconds to post my new links!!! I'm glad I could help!

Jane, can I try something? I would like to try to commit to about 10 cards a month for two months, and if I find that I am unable to do ten, I will cut back to maybe 5 and see what happens from there. Does that make sense? I would love to help if I can, I just don't want to commit to it, then find out I'm not able to fulfill my commitment.

Default That sounds great!

Kaitlyn,

That sounds fantastic!!! All I'm trying to do is get some regular cards coming in for the houses! Any amount of cards you send would be fantastic! Don't worry about sending multiples of the same card. I'm trying to supply 3 different houses in WI. 1-4 of one design per house is just fine! So, if you send 12 cards of one design, I just split it up between the houses!

One of the things I do when I'm making cards is to make multiples of whatever card I make! If I only need one, I make 2-4 of that card. I try to figure out what is the best number for the card I need. For example, if I use a strip of black paper for a stripe, I try to figure how many cards I can make out of either the scraps I have that same size or from a fresh piece of paper! Then, I will make the card in stages. I usually cut all the pieces first. Then I do stamping that needs to be done. Then I start with any assembly that I can do, like scoring and folding the card base, putting background pieces together. Then, I paint, color, or embellish the stamped pieces as needed. Finally, I finish assembling all the pieces and put on the finishing touches.

Sometimes I only do one step in a night! I keep all my supplies in a shoebox, and that way I have it to grab if I'm going to be sitting somewhere for a while, like waiting for a doctor's appt or waiting for my son to get out of pep band!

I don't know if this helps or not, but it makes it so much easier for me!

Thank you sooooo much for offering to do this!!!

ANYONE else want to match Kaitlyn's offer???

Thumbs up Another adoption!!!!!

Another official adoption!!! Linda has officially adopted the Sioux City, IA RMD house!!! She is doing this with several ladies who work with her at Hobby Lobby, because she will be moving this summer, and the other women will take over for her!

Here is her message to me:

Jane,

I talked with some of the ladies last night at work and we are going to start this as a group and they will continue on after I am gone. One of the ladies is the assistant manager at work (I work at Hobby Lobby) and she is going to see about setting up a make and take at work and promote it as you make two and take one and the other goes to RMD - I told her that was funny she came up with that idea because it was on the same lines of shat you said. I will go to your link in the next day or two and then start contact with the local house. They are very excited about it. ...(respectfully clipped)... I may be contacting you again if I have more questions. Thanks again.

Angela

Default great day for cards!!!

My girlfriend, Margie and her daughter, Sandee went through their card stash and gathered up 2 BOXES of cards!!!!!

I almost fell over when her husband, Dennis dropped them off!!! I've been busy all day packaging up cards for the Milwaukee, Marshfield and Madison houses!!!

I think I have about 100 cards for each house right now! I'm going to get these cards ready to go to each of the homes, because I'm leaving on Thursday on a road trip to visit family and friends!!!

I'm really excited because I'm going to be able to meet sarge(Kay), because she lives close to my sister and my best friend from high school, who I'm also visiting!!! Kay has been helping me with this project since the very beginning, and has been a HUGE supporter of this thread!!! She almost single handedly supplied the Marshfield house with stamps for their scrapbooking program!

Please keep the cards coming, so we can continue to supply the RMD houses with cards!!!

Default I have a great story to tell!

Yesterday, when my girlfriends husband came by to drop off cards, he said, "I know what the Ronald McDonald House is, but why do they need all these cards???"

I then told him the reasons people really appreciate the cards that we donate to RMD. Every house is different in how long the average family stays, but the reasons they enjoy the cards we send are all the same. When you have a critically ill child receiving treatment such as cancer surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, anti-rejection meds, transplants, or even have a pre-mature baby that is too small and fragile to come home, what are you worried about??? That child!!!! Sometimes, you don't have any time to think about your other children's birthday's, your anniversary, your older sister's first grandchild, or even a friend back home who is taking care of the dog, and picking up the mail and paper for you! Sometimes, you have all the time in the world to write notes to people, but don't want to leave your child to run to the giftshop to purchase cards to send. Other times, you get to the giftshop to buy a card, only to find that the price of cards has skyrocketed, and do you really have an extra $6.99 to spend on a card, when both you and your husband are out of work to be with your dying child. Or finally, you've been running around like a chicken without a head, and EVERYTHING seems to be fighting you because you are in a rush to get back to the hospital room to be there when your child gets out of surgery, and the aide that is delivering meals, stops by and asks you if you've had a chance to eat and you realize that you haven't had a bite to eat all day, and they go to the cart and leave a meal for you and you think THANK YOU, you are a Godsend!!! And when you get back to the RMD house to catch nap, you see a beautiful card that says, "thank you, you're an angel" and you think, that would be really nice to give that card to that aide to let them know how much their thoughtfulness means to you!

OK!!! Again, I'm long winded and took a long time to explain that, but after I finished, Dennis looked and me and said, "How did you even think to get this whole thing going???"

I told him, well, that's another story...
