MAJOR helper since the beginning!
I TOTALLY believe in the power of prayer, and I don't know if this project would be half as big as it is if it wasn't and isn't for our biggest PRAYER WARRIOR,
CATERINAFMIG
Thank you Caterina for all your past prayers and all your future ones as well! You are an amazing woman!!!

Thanks for all you do and for being YOU!
Now, to get some more cards together to send to you......
And yes, how can we be short 2 cards???!!
As you know, I'm always happy to receive cards!!! Everyday, I get a smile on my face from looking at all the things people have donated over the years, so it is nice to be able to do the same! I do have most of the pictures in the pages of this thread, if anyone wants to see all the beautiful things as well!
We are probably not REALLY 2 cards shy, because I know there are cards that were delivered before I started counting, but that is the way it goes! We'll be there soon enough!

Busy stamping weekend...
...and doggie rescue weekend!!! I made about 50 cards this weekend for a local swap, and I also do a recipe book swap once a year. This years theme was CHOCOLATE!!! I had to take part!
I also fiinished the adoption of 2 rescue doxies!!! YEAH!!!
I've found that the house directors are VERY busy, and don't always answer an e-mail right away. It seems to always work better if you call them!
Have a great week, hopefully, you can enjoy some of your travels and it is not just WORK, WORK, WORK!!!
Thanks for helping with this project!!!

Okay, REALLLYYY late in getting this going, but left a message today and hope to have an update for everyone soon! In the meantime, I did a major purge of my supplies and have 3 boxes of supplies as well as a bunch of cards ready to go!

...as they say!!! It is a MAJOR thing, going through your supplies and thinning out! I try to do rearranging or just getting things back in place when I do it, so it is ALWAYS a major ordeal.

That is the biggest house that I've heard of! Sad to know that they need that many rooms, but thrilled that they will now be able to offer more families a place to call home while their child is fighting for their life!
I had to wait to send cards to the Madison house in WI. They were remodeling, and everything was everywhere, and they didn't want to add any more to the mix! Totally understandable! I just waited until they were ready!
Don't forget to let me know how many cards you send, so I can add it to my totals!!!! WOW, I'm going to put my next goal at 15,000 cards!!!! How long do you think it's going to take?????
Thanks again, Jana, for your help! I know the families and kids of the RMD House in Toronto will be THRILLED to get your cards!

Keep sending! It's great that you keep sending! I add the duplicate stuff to my boxes, and when I get enough, I send it to the houses! Sometimes, I use the items to make cards for the houses, though! BUT, it all goes to the same project! Sometimes I use the stuff to make up stamping kits for the kids, too!
BOTTOM line, when you send me punces it makes it easier for me to make up some cards! or fill up a card kit, ect!
Hi I am a newbie but would love to help a house. I would love to make cards..is there a particular type? I also have some stamp sets and pads I could part with from stamping up if they are needed. Just send me in the right direction and I am on it.

Becky,
California is such a big state, I they have 11 houses!!! They are located:
California
Bakersfield
Loma Linda
Los Angeles #1
Los Angeles #2
Madera
Orange
Palo Alto
Pasadena
Sacremento
San Diego
San Francisco
Is there one that is closer to your location??? What I usually do is start with the house that is closest to your location, and call them (or stop by) and tell them that you make handmade cards, and would be interested in donating some to the house. Some houses give the cards to the people staying at the house, while others leave the cards for the residents to use the cards at their descretion. Some houses do a mixture of both.
I always say that some cards are better then none, and more better than less, but how many cards a house uses is totally dependent on the house! Some will say, We've got plenty of cards, we'll call you when we need more, or check back with us in 6 mths. Other houses just can't get enough cards! There are also what they call "family rooms" that are actually at the hospital. These are rooms that are maintained by the RMD House nearest that hospital. Sometimes, they will put cards out in the family rooms. They usually take less cards for the family rooms, although you never know!
If you would like me to call a house for you, I'd be happy to do that, or else if you tell me which house is closest to you, I can get you the address and phone number. Or you can just google the house nearest you.
I usually just call the front dest, tell them that I would like to donate some handmade cards to them for the residents use, and is there someone in particular that I need to speak with. They will either talk further or refer you to the correct person. Some of this just depends on the house size. The smallest house I've talked to has 10 rooms, and the largest 48~ so that gives you an idea the variety of what they would need or want! Some of it also depends on what type of patients the hospital nearest them deals with. Some work with preemie babies alot. Others work with transplant patients. Still others with chemo.
I usually try to package the cards up with an envelope in one of those plastic card sleeves, to keep the card looking nice until it is used. It also keeps the card cleaner for a potential chemo patient, who can't chance getting any new germs introduced into their area. I find the plastic sleeves on e-bay for real cheap. I also get bulk envelopes. I live in WI where there are several paper mills in the area, so I get my envelopes locally, but others get them on-line for about $12.50/250 envelopes.
Let me know what you need help with to get you started!

Happy Sunday!
It is a beautiful fall morning here in WI, as I check my mail, and get ready for my day! I have the great honor of proclaiming God's word at mass today as lector. It gives me a chance to study a small section of the bible, and find meaning in the words, and hopefully illustrate those words for others! I pray for God's guidance as I ready for the task!
Afterward, our small church will have it's annual fall banquet and festival. With so many small churches closing in the Catholic community, it may be our last, as we were recently joined with a forth small community because of the lack of priests. The smallest church in our group has already become a special chapel, and mass is only celebrated there on request. We were put on a once a month schedule. As winter approaches, and our church is the smallest and furthest from the priest's residence, time will tell as far as what will become of our small community parish. I have been blest to be a part of such a wonderful church family since moving to this community!
This morning's first reading is from the book of Wisdom, and I pray for wisdom of the leader's of the church, to open the doors of the priesthood to other willing applicant's... women and married men, who already do so much of God's work within the church.

Hello Hello ~
Been awhile since I have checked in here. was vacationing in AZ last week and getting back into a normal routine. Janie I have a box packed up to get to you, just need to get to the PO ~ might be this week or the next. I am not really mobile right now with a bad knee. Had MRI yesterday and see the surgeon a week from tomorrow for the results. I've already had a corticosteroid injection into the knee on 10/12 with no relief.

Do they rent scooters at the airport in AZ??? LOL!!! JK, but that would be nice, right??? Another thing we have in common, LJ, a bum knee! I need a replacement, but keep putting it off! Steroids actually do help me, and also the Synvisc injection help a little. I also have a brace that I wear when I'm doing a lot of walking and that helps to keep the bones from rubbing against each other, in my case, which is what causes the pain.
Hope you get some relief soon!!! I know it isn't easy to get around madtown with a bum knee!

Dayton, OH RMD House
I'd love to have you as part of our program! YEAH! ANother house gets adopted! Thanks for volunteering to send cards to the Dayton house.
All you have to do is call up the house and let them know that you would like to start donating Hand Made Cards for the Residents, and is there someone in particular that you need to deal with. Then, just start bringing them cards! After you send/bring them the cards, don't forget to come post to this thread so that we can keep a running total of cards donated! Some of the girls keep an individual total for their cards donated in their own signature! Also, putting a link to this thread in your siggy to encourage others to find out what we are doing would also be appreciated!
I usually package the cards up with an envelope in one of those plastic card sleeves to keep the embellishments from getting ruined and also to keep the cards cleaner for the children. Some are on chemo or other imunosuppressive drugs, and it would be best to keep them as clean as possible!
Here is the info about the house, if you need any other help or have any other questions, please just let me know!
Ronald McDonald House- Dayton
555 Valley Street
Dayton, OH 45404 USA
Thanks for the info! I wasn't sure if someone had adopted this house already. I am excited to help, and also to get my children involved. We are also collecting the pull tabs for the House, so I think this will all be a great lesson for them. I really appreciate all the time you just put into coordinating this effort.

I'm so happy to have you as part of this project!!! I do think that children learn by example! And what better example than to work together on a project!!! My kids have always helped me through the years. My daughter is off at college, but she still helps by delivering cards to the MN house, and she is also volunteering at the local PBS station. My son, a senior in HS is volunteering at a riding facility that works with handicapped children! He also help me with Dachshund Rescue, and lectors at Mass.
If you need any help with this project, just ask! Several of the girls run swaps to help collect cards for thier houses. A lot of the people on this thread will help by joining the swaps. I see that you are new to SCS, so not sure if you have joined the swap forum. If not, it is a great place to start. I do swaps on a regular basis, because it is an easy way to get a variety of cards for the houses. For me, it is easier to make 20 of one card and swap with other people, than to make 20 different cards!

You are not the first one that has mentioned the Synvisc injection to me, I am going to ask about it if the PT Exercises I am doing now do not help. I did get an MRI the monday I got back from AZ, my knee is close to bone-on-bone. The surgeon sent me back to PT. So this is round 3. I "strap" my knee to help pull the joint back to the inside, to try to get it straightened. the exercises are hard because I am in pain as it is. Knee replacement is probably down the road, but since I am only 39 - probably pT and injections are the course for now. The MRI did not show any ACL/MCL or muscle tears. Just the not a lot of space for the knee to move.
I hope you had a nice thanksgiving! Have lots of leftovers here from mom and dad.

Hi Laura,
How are you doing??? I'm back to square one with my knee. I went with my son to an open house at UW, and walking around Madison basically killed me! I forgot my knee brace, which is what usually keeps my worst pain at bay. So, I was walking from building to building and up and down stairs all day. By the time I got home, I was on crutches! I couldn't even walk with my brace on!
I'm better now, but still not great. Using my brace 100% of the time. You also need to talk to your doctor about an osteoarthritus brace. What they do is exactly what you are trying to do with your strapping. Most insurance companies will cover the cost of braces, and it will help to save the cartiledge that you do have left! The one I have has a dial, that I can turn until I don't feel the pain.

Happy Sunday
It is that time of year that we are all bustling around getting ready for Christmas, so I know everyone is busy! I hope everyone has time to relax and enjoy their family and friends for the holidays.
Please remember to take care of yourselves, because if you don't take care of yourselves, you won't be able to take care of your family!!!
My family is coming up for the holidays on the 19th and are staying through the 9th! I'm looking forward to having lots of time to visit, because they all live almost 1500 miles from me! It has been a busy year and the visits have been too few and far between for me!
I hope to be better about posting to this thread in the new year ahead!

Jane--I have a box of general cards, a bag of Christmas cards, some M&M treat bags and another bag of stamping supplies to take to the Tosa house in the next week or so. I am out of town until Wednesday and not sure I can make it there the end of the week, but I will go early next week for sure. I think I have close to 200 cards total that I have ready to go.

Barb, that sounds wonderful! I'm sure that they will be thrilled! I'm hoping to get some card kits made for them as well, so the kids can make a christmas card for their parents, if they are able! My friend, Cindy is coming for a visit, and she is great about taking things there on her way home, or having her hubby drop them off because he works pretty close by.
Thanks for all your do! You are a Godsend to the Tosa house!
I took in 50 cards today and meet another employee whom I have not met before, She was so excited to meet me and tell me how much she appreciates and enjoys the cards. A great big thank you to all who help me make this possible.

Such a busy time of year!
Just a quick post to say HI, and hope everyone is taking time to enjoy the holidays as they quickly approach! Remember, Jesus wouldn't want you to get STRESSED for the holidays. It wasn't perfect at the stable where he was born, so it really doesn't have to be perfect at your house for him on Christmas either!

And may we remember, He is here in my home and in my heart every day, does He find a welcome here? Merry Christmas to all my splitcoast stamper friends! Martha
