**WHAT IT TAKES TO ADOPT A RONALD MCDONALD HOUSE NEAR YOU**

1) Make a committment to the house near you.

2) Let me know which house you plan to adopt, so we can steer people in your direction.

3) Start collecting materials for "your house".

4) Ask all you stamping friends and buddies to also help you with your house!!!! Maybe they can just send you some cards or supplies, or you can host a stamping for Ronald's kids party!!!

5) Organize the stamping/scrapbooking items you collect for the house. I try to put all the ribbon together, all the paper together, all the stamps into flat boxes for easy access. Candy boxes or flats(box bottoms for canned veggies) work great for these items.

6) I try to match envelopes to all the cards, so each card has and envelope and put all the cards/envelopes I collect into those little plastic sleeve protectors. This keeps the cards clean, and the germs off of cards, especially if they are going to be handled by a child undergoing chemotherapy or other treatments/diseases in which the immune system is weak!!! Maybe I should also ask for donations of these as well, but I can get people started, as I purchase a bunch on e-bay. I also put whatever the card says inside on a peice of notepaper and insert it in the back of the card.

7) Deliver items you collect to your house!!!

8) Contact me if you have questions!!!

Please help me spread the word about this project by adding a link to this thread in your signature!!!!!

Just read this e-mail I received from Marilyn, the house director of the Milwaukee Ronald McDonald House:

Hi Jane,
Sue hope you had a wonderful time on your vacation!

Thank you so much for the 2 boxes of cards! They are beautiful and so greatly appreciated by all of our guests.

Tried to pick my favorite and have way too many for that…they are all the best and all are wonderful.

Thank you again Jane. We are grateful for your support and generous supply of greeting cards.

and this one:

[I]Hi Jane,
Thank you for your wonderful note and hope you are getting everyone settled!
We were just talking about the cards today and yes, we are running low of cards. You don’t have to have any before you go to Fl, but maybe in the near future would be fantastic.
Our guests love them and are used and enjoyed by everyone.
Let me know your thoughts.
Happy Labor Day!
Marilyn

IN ADDITION, I just had a friend of mine help out today, by dropping off some Valentine's day treat bags to the kids at the Milwaukee house. She just called me to say that she was excited to help with this project, and was amazed at the number of people who were sitting around the living room stamping!!!! They were making cards and scrapbooks!!!! NOW, I think that is EXACTLY what we all wanted to see happen with this project!!!!

I'm going to PM her a thank you, because I don't know if she saw the request on this thread or on another one.

I'm sure these cards are going to be put to good use!

Bumping for Ronald McDonald House!

A bump for Saturday!

Please consider a gift of some extra cards for families of children with life threatening diseases.

These cards can help alleviate some of the stress in their lives with one less thing that they have to think about. Instead of having to go to Hallmark or the hospital gift shop to buy a card to send to a doctor or nurse or volunteer or someone else that brightened their day, these cards will be available to them!!!

Thank you for your consideration!:-D

Is this on the RAK thread? I guess I could check that. I made six thank-you cards last night. I hope to make some each weekend for the RMD House.

janiekay 01-11-2009 09:57 PM

I applied to the RAK thread and haven't heard anything yet!

BUT, I haven't checked the status of my membership yet! I'm getting together with some of my friends to do some stamping next weekend, hopefully!

Hope to hear from more people soon!

I'm going to check the RAK group thread!

Jane

cinman1964 01-13-2009 03:53 PM

Be patient with RAK it took almost a month before my request was processed, but it's well worth the wait. I have a package I'll get in the mail to you this week. This is such a worthy cause, thanks for allowing us to contribute.

janiekay 01-14-2009 12:48 PM

I just heard from RAK!!!

I'm not quite a part of the group, but I should hear from them with approval by the 21st!!!

Thanks Cindy! I would love to include your items in with the other items I have!!! I know that when my nephew was sick, his parents never would have been able to stay at the hospital the entire time without RMH!!! BTW, what is stamp to spend??? I've never heard of that!!!

I also sent a note out to all my local stamping friends, and I have heard back from one girl that said she was gathering up a bunch of cards for me. Also, a couple of other friends are going to get together with me and we are going to stamp up a bunch of cards!!!

Would love to have any others join!!!

TIA,
Jane

Just a little morning bump!

Hi!!

Janie, I was wondering if you have contacted RMH and they know that they are receiving these items? I donated a bunch of stamps/paper/stamping/scrapping supplies awhile back to the Milwaukee RMH, they were happy to take them and so I dropped them off at the house. Recently, I contacted them about donating my Sizzix to them, but haven't heard back from them. I contacted them approx. 3 times, and even left a voice mail message. I am really confused. If they were not interested, I wouldn't have minded if they declined. KWIM? Let me know if you hear anything. :D

Jane,
Stamp to Spend is a way of keeping up with how much you make versus how much you spend. The theory is to earn money to buy new craft items by using what you already have first by giving yourself credit for the items you make. Here is a link to the thread

Hi Jane: I'm glad you received the flat rate box in good shape. I've seen reports about your weather on the television and it looks frightful!! Makes me glad I live in Florida...LOL I'll work on some thank you cards for you. Kay

I knew that you had given some things to them recently from your post on Samantha's thread!!! That is what gave me the idea for this request!!! I do not know what is going on with the RMH in Milwaukee, but they also have one in Madison and one up near Green Bay. I was planning on splitting the items between the houses, unless I didn't get much stuff in. I will call Milwaukee and see what is going on. Maybe they don't know what a Sizzix machine is???? If you want, I can sell it for you on e-bay, and then you can use the money for other items either for RMH or other charities!!! Last I checked, even used sizzix machines were still bringing in good money on e-bay. I can pick it up in Feb when I see you!

I am coming to Milwaukee in Feb., and my daughter lives near the RMH in Madison. Green Bay is a little out of the way, but I'm going to have to bring my car up to Appleton soon for some service, and I thought I would just plan on going up to Green Bay then!

Talk soon!

Jane

PS: I just got accepted into the RAK group!!! WAHOO!!! I'll let everyone know what happens with that!!!

PSS: Thanks Kay! I'm not going to the first house until the end of Feb. Then, I plan to go to the Madison and Green Bay one in March.

PPSS: I have been in Wisconsin for the last 11 years, and I have never seen this much snow here, EVER!!!! The wind has been brutal, and the snow piles are so high in some places, you can barely see the houses or shops or even the snow fence!!! We have a little 3 foot wrought iron fence around our house, and you can only see it in certian areas!!! It has been unbelievable! BUT, I take a Wisconsin winter over a Florida summer anyday!!! I used to live in Orlando and that 98 degrees with 98% humidity just about kill me!!!! My theory is that you can always dress in layers, and put more layers on. If you take off too many layers, you end up getting arrested!!!! LOL!!!

janiekay 01-21-2009 12:34 PM

Marshfield, not Green Bay!!!

I knew that I had looked up the RMD houses and their locations, but I forgot a couple of thiings.

I must still be foggy from the surgery!!! Yes, I'm finally off the pain meds, although posting this without my glasses, so, not sure what it ultimately looks like!!!

Madison RMD House has a group of Stampin Up Distributors in the area that regularly make them scrapbook journals for all of their visitors. So, I won't send the scrapbook stuff there. I may send them some cards, if I get a lot, but as of today, the only cards I have received by mail are from sparkle!

I am not officially a member of RAK yet, maybe sometime this week. Maybe one of the things I can do is to work on getting all of the RMD houses in the USA get adopted by some Stampin Up distributors, Or maybe creative memory reps or some others. The Madison RMD House has a BIG thank you to Stampin Up in their main thank you page.

The 3rd RMD house is in Marshfield, WI, which is closer than Green Bay in crows miles, but not as conveinent to reach by car. Still, it is not too far away that I can't take a trip there or even mail them a big package of cards and stuff.

I think that most of these homes are occupied daily by many families, and most are staffed with volunteers. Not all volunteers, they do have paid staff as well. So, please keep the cards and scrapbook stuff coming!!! As I mentioned, the Madison RMD home gets actual scrapbooks, so if you have any samples that you made in a class or workshop, but aren't using, these would be a good thing to donate!!! Just a thought!!!

Jane

janiekay 01-21-2009 12:42 PM

PSS: Thanks Kay! I'm not going to the first house until the end of Feb. Then, I plan to go to the Madison and Green Bay one in March.

Again, I forgot in my drug induced fog(knee surgery last thursday) or maybe pre surgery jitters, that the one home is in Marshfield, not Green Bay--see post above!!!

Another great mail day!!! About 50 beautifully packaged cards with envy's stamps and everything!!!

Cindy,

Your cards are BEAUTIFUL!!! I love the way you packaged them! Valentines cards will be appreciated as well! I may have you mail them to samanthasmom (who is also a Cindy8o) or twinkle, who both actually live in Milwaukee, so they can be delivered before Valentines Day! If it doesn't work for either of them, it's not that far for me, and I can make quick trip if needed!

Jane

Lynn and/or OC(other Cindy),

Would you have any time to drop off some cards if I make all the arrangements with RMD house and Cindy for mailing???

**Another option is to mail them directly to RMD house. Although, it's always nice to make a delivery in person!!!

Let me know what you think!!!:)

Jane, just wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for what you are doing. The RMH is truly a blessing to the children and their families -- cannot say enough good things about this org.

Am a member of the Cole Foundation founded by the father of a very sweet three yr. old boy, Cole, who lost his battle with cancer last Sept. You can click on my signature line and it will take you to their website - you will be able see a picture of precious Cole. We have several hundred members and growing. It is truly a blessing to send cards, care pkgs., etc. and to pray for these awesome brave warriors.

Again, may God bless you abundantly for your efforts.

janiekay 01-27-2009 08:04 AM

God bless you, also!

Thank you for sharing COLE's Foundation site with us! I read the story that is in the Feb. 10 issue of Woman's Day, about the site, and have already shared it with others.

I is a beautiful reminder that in the end, all that really matters are the people that we have in our lives. All the rest is just "stuff"!!!

My nephew, Frankie passed away at age 8 of a tumor in his brain stem. This was over 20 years ago, but still very clear in my memory. His parents stayed at the RMH for quite awhile, so I know what a blessing they truely are.

Thanks also for your kind words, and I hope anyone who reads this goes and visits the link in Caterina's siggy!!!

God bless you all!

Jane

caterinafmig 01-27-2009 08:41 AM

Jane so sorry about your nephew -- surely it was most difficult for the family and still is. Did he have DIPG or neuroblastoma? There are so many babies and young children with this insidious disease.

Glad you saw the article in Woman's Day -- the foundation sent me the link and read it - thought it was well done - hoping I can buy a copy of the mag to keep.

Thanks again for all your efforts.
