Canadian Military Need Our Support (2010)
Hello,
I'm kind of starting "round 2" of this project. The original thread was about 11 pages long, so I thought I'd save everyone the grief of reading trying to figure out what it's about. I collect handcrafted cards for our military. They are blank so that when they are given to the soldiers they are able to send a card home to their loved one. The cards should be 1/4 fold (8.5x11 cut in half then folded in half) as they fit in the baggies and boxes better. If you use dark cardstock, please put a white insert in as the soldiers don't have access to metallic pens like we do. Occasions should be generic because of the lead time for holidays. Some ideas: love, anniversary, birthday, hello, congratulations, miss you, smile, thinking of you, thank you, friend, encouragement, proud of you, just a note or blank. I have two places for this year that the cards will be sent! The Edmonton Garrison is still taking our cards. They have found some creative ways to get them out to their soldiers (the government has cracked down on "general mail" going on the planes) and it sounds like it's working great. I talked to my contact today and she said they are all so appreciative of our efforts. The other place is through a fellow SCSer - punkapod. Her husband is willing to help us distribute them to another base. All will still go through me so that we can do counts - I will arrange for delivery to these two. When you are ready to send cards, please PM me and I'll send you my address. Please include your SCS name when you send cards. I will send you a PM when they arrive. Please include envelopes - all my Hallmark and Carlton sources are drying up (they are using the envelopes for local charities that they specifically support). Check with Canada Post for the cheapest way to mail - usually express post envelopes - it's a flat rate and you can stuff it as full as you want (without damaging cards, of course). If you need any other information please ask. I don't mind at all. Hope you'll join in to support our military and their families. They've had a tough go of it with the number of casualties. Thank you!! |
So, here are our card totals from the past:
2007 - 3,104 2008 - 7,893 2009 - 9,457 And starting the total for 2010 is: 196!! Let me know when you have some cards to send! |
Wow, lets see if we can break 10,000 in 2010!!
|
Bumping new thread to top, is there some way we could maybe get the mods to delete the first thread so this one doesn't get lost or we have to jump back and forth?

Wow so bright and shiny and new here!!! ;)
Glad to have a new home! I agree- lets break 10 000!!!! Diane |
I had someone from Superstore give me a whole bunch of envelopes! So..if sending cards wasn't an option because you didn't have envelopes, that shouldn't be a problem now.
If you have envelopes, please send; if you don't, just send the cards and we'll get them matched up. Let's start the cards coming!! |
I for one, would hate to see the old thread deleted entirely. Maybe just lock it, with a link to this thread would be the best way.

If you are able to change title threads maybe put OLD 2009 and NEW 2010, just my humble.

Carolyn, good to see a new 2010 thread for this.
Re: editing or updating the other thread to refer people to new thread, I see that this lady updated, so if you don't get other help, maybe you could contact her and find out. Just include a link to this new thread. http://www.splitcoaststampers.com/fo...d.php?t=406367 I'll start working on my contributions. |

And a big thank you to TheatreDiva for her contribution of cards. My sis-in-law is looking at them for ideas, so when I get them back I will update the thread. Let's start getting cards coming!! PLEASE!?!?! |
updating thread title
Carolyn,
I looked in the suggestions forum and found this For swaps and BST you are able to edit your posts as well as your thread title. To get to the thread title you have to go in like you are going to edit your post and then there is a button that says Go Advanced. Click that and you will be able to edit the title. I have some cards I will be sending this week. I will let you know specifically when they are in the mail. Heather |

Carolyn,
Were you editing the first post in the old thread? If you go in to edit that post, you should be able to change the title of the thread as it is tied to that post. Heather |

On a side note - received a box of cards from "Eilis" - haven't even opened them up yet! Looking forward to taking a peek at them. Thank you!! |
Good morning!
I get to start the week (okay, I know it's Tuesday, but with the holiday yesterday it feels like Monday) with a new card total. Thanks to contributions from Theatre Diva and Eilis our card total stands at 321! Let's keep them coming! |
I am planning a stamping/purging session this weekend! Will let you know how it goes!
Way to go ladies! Diane |

Got a big stack of cards and envelopes from rainbowgirl yesterday (she collected with a whole bunch of friends). Thank you!!:p
It will take me awhile to get the card total on here though. We've had another death in the family (my aunt) and I'll be taking my mom and son (DH coming later) to Sask probably tomorrow. I will update after that. Thanks all for your patience. Please keep collecting and sending! |
Good afternoon!
I'm now back from Saskatchewan. Just before we left I received a box of cards from canstamper. They will be included in the card total as well. I better get at it!! Thanks to all of you. |
New card total!!!
Thanks to contributions from someone outside of SCS, canstamper, eskabeeble and rainbowgirl, our total is now.... 1,038!!! Give yourselves a hand! By the way - I have lots of envelopes, so if you don't have any, that's fine. It'll take me a while to work through the number I have. |
AWESOME!!!!
I am getting ready to host a swap where the +1 will be collected for this cause. Should know in about a month when DH will be heading to either CFB Wainwright or CFB Suffield. At that time he will try to find a contact at that base for cards for us. |
Quote:
Should we be meeting to get the cards to you so your DH can take the cards with him? There are a few (as in 9 or 10 of each) Mothers Day and Fathers Day cards. |
I don't think he can make contacts fast enough to take any thing before June so we should hang on to the Mothers/fathers day for next year. Maybe in the fall we can forward cards for those occasions as there will probably be some deployments happening where some soldiers will want to take those type with them.

Eskabeeble and ValH - your cards arrived and are in my possession.
Will update the card total soon. Thanks for contributing!! |
I have some homemade cards to send but I've also been cleaning my Aunt's house since she is moving and she has a bunch of store bought cards. Could I include some of those in my package as well?

Mailed a box of cards last night. They should arrive in three or four days.
|
Thanks! I'll be sure to let you know when they arrive. Are they the "kit" cards again? A friend bought a kit from someone connected with Stampin' Up - she said it was SO easy.
Since I'm here, I think I'll update the card total. We are now at 1,313!! You've all filled the first box - it's stuffed to the brim. |
Yes, they are the kit cards....so easy. LOVE these kits!
|
Hi Carolyn,
I have some cards put aside. I just checked my mailbox to see if I have your address from the last time I sent cards. Oddly enough, the PM you sent me with your addy is almost exactly from 1 yr ago (April4!)... So as long as you haven't moved, then I will send it to that address! Diane |
