This couple used to be our neighbors a few years ago. They babysat my little girl when she was only a few months old. We had block parties with them and hung out with them on the weekends. We weren't close, but we were in a group of friends that hung out together all the time. I helped promote the blood drive for their little girl when she was first diagnosed and my heart just ached for them.
But, I always thought things would eventually turn out well for them. I knew they had been struggling with treatments for the past several months, but I rejoiced with all our friends when she was declared to be in remission on October 6th, just 4 days before her first birthday. A few days ago her dad posted the following on Facebook:

KaliMarie update: unfortunately despite all of the heroic efforts of her medical staff and the miracles of modern medicine, KaliMarie's leukemia has come back and at this point we have exhausted all of our options. Therefore we are simply going to enjoy her and every moment that we have left. We want to ensure that we thank her medical team and everyone for their thoughts and prayers during this entire journey. She is a very rare and unusual girl.
If you would like to come and visit please call and let us know. she is only good for short periods of time and we would love to have you. We would suggest, as her time is limited, the sooner the better.

I just can't imagine their pain. I am so blessed that I have two happy healthy children!!! I am just not a strong person and don't know how people can survive such tragedy.
I have seen so many good causes at Splitcoast and have participated in some of them myself. I would like to see if anyone is interested in just sending a few happy hello cards to my friends? Just something to give them a smile here and there in the next few weeks?
If you are interested, please PM me. I would like to start this as soon as possible. Thanks in advance - I know everyone is probably all 'card-ed' out after the Hope You Can Cling To challenge, but hopefully we can all create a few more...
