My 86 year old mother fell while gardening on May 31. She broke her neck at the C2 vertibrae. We are so very thankful to God that she has no paralysis. However, she has to wear a very restrictive and uncomfortable minvera brace for at least 6-8 weeks. The ligament around the break also was torn which is causing problems swallowing so she is on a pureed food and thickened liquid diet as well.
She appreciates all the prayers she can get so at a minumum please keep her in your prayers. She has a long slow recovery ahead of her and she does stamp and craft (her username here on splitcoast is #1coffeelover) so I know she would enjoy receiving some cards as well. If you would like to send a card please PM me for the address.
I just wanted to thank everyone who is sending cards to Mom. She is thoroughly enjoying them.
We saw the neurosurgeon on Monday for our first follow-up visit. He was pleased with how the fracture is healing. She has to continue to wear the current brace until July 15 when he expects to switch her to a less restrictive/more comfortable brace for another 4-6 weeks. Her swallowing is improving and the therapists are slowly adding more solid foods back to her diet. She is moving around much better, gaining strength, and getting better sleep. Things are slowing improving.
How wonderful to hear such a good report about your Mom!! Thanks for letting us know.
