Default Card request

Hello Everyone. My sister in law asked if I would send a card to her boss's Mother. She is in assisted living and never receives mail. I am sending her a card, but wonder if you would too. She is 83 years old, lived on a farm and is new to assisted living.

I really appreciate it. Thank you.

Sorry for the delay responding. I had mistakenly replied to myself, when I responded to your kind note. Thank you sincerely!

Hi--I have a little more information to share about Marilyn.

She is new to assisted living and is a widow. Her daughter said she walks to the mailbox every day and there is never any mail for her.

She grew up on a farm with a few cattle and hogs and grew corn. They had a chicken house and raised their own from eggs. They had a huge fruit tree orchard, apples and cherries. Her dad died of a heart attack when she was 16. She married at 19 and by age 26 there were 4 children; she raised her family in a very small town; she went back to school and became an LPN when her daughter was in junior high school and prior to that she worked the night shift in a café so she was always home for the kids and didn’t have to pay a baby sitter.

She knits, loves to read and to putter with her “tomato” plant and a few flowers.

Thank you for sending a card to Marilyn. It's a quadruple hit if you do: it's a kindness extended to Marilyn, to my sister in law, her boss which is Marilyn's daughter and to me.

Have a terrific Friday!

I just loved reading about Marilyn's life. She reminds me of my sweet Aunt Anna who also lived on a working farm, raised 3 children and then returned to school to earn her LPN. Knowing more about Marilyn will help me to design a card that I think she'll like .... thanks for sharing more about her. I hope she'll get many "card stock hugs" in her mailbox.

Do you know what she likes to read? (My grandmother, for instance, used to like Harlequin Romance Novels. )

Thanks for checking. I would like to see if I can find an interesting book or two to send her way, if you think that'd be okay.

Hi--Marilyn is having a nice visit with her daughter Linda in Omaha for the past week. She's returning home to assisted living in the next few days. When she returns, she will be welcomed by a bunch of hand made cards! Thank you for all your kindness.

Who do we say sent us? I like to write something along the lines of:
"I'm a friend of ___ who thought you would like some happy mail."

Since Marilyn is out of town right now, I'll mail mine next week. Spread out the cards a little bit so she can enjoy many days of receiving happy mail.

Thanks!

Diane, here's what I wrote in the card I sent .... "Your lovely daughter thought you might enjoy receiving some mail."

Hi there. I haven't had any feedback yet. Linda (the daughter) has been on vacation to spend time with her Mom-Marilyn. So when Linda gets back to work, I'm sure she will tell my sister in law whatever her Mom says about the cards and we will get some feedback that way. Based on the response here on this thread, I suspect she has had a super nice and unexpected card shower!

My suggestion would be to say I'm a friend of Sharon Sysel (who works with your daughter) who thought you would like some happy mail.

Thank you so much for your kindness and willingness to send Marilyn a card!

Even trying to figure out how to best sign the card, it's a sensitive and kind gesture.

It's wonderful that she has enjoyed the cards. I had planned to send mine next week to spread out the happy mail a little bit. It really touched me how she walks to the mailbox every day and never gets any mail. My card is in the envelope, all addressed, ready to go. Thanks for sharing the news.

Just checking in to say that I haven't yet sent a card to Marilyn. I didn't have time to grab a book before I went on vacation on the 2nd, but I am home now and it's on my list of Things to Go to the Post Office This Week.

I have not sent one to Marilyn or Al yet, but I was not that worried about getting the cards into the mail pronto. I thought it would be good to spread them out!

I think the teapotters would have lots of fun with this gal....We have some slackers (cough cough) that get ours out later rather than sooner, so they will be spread out too.....
