Default Fifty shades of Grey

Has anyone read this yet? I just bought it on my ipad and will try to start reading it this weekend.

It may not be everyone's choice of book but from what I have read about the book it has me intrigued.

Have you read Fifty Shades of Grey yet? I just read a small free "sample" last night on my iPad. It seems pretty good. From what I've read it's been called everything from "mommy porn" to "smut". I read that the male character is into some kinky things but the 2nd and 3rd books are good as well. It's coming out in actual bookform next week I believe. I'm suprised there hasn't been a big discussion on here already!!

Default addicting

I just finished the first book and have started the second book. They are quite addicting! Yes, they are also very graphic but the romance story is what has me hooked!! I'm sneaking off during work just to read a few pages! Craziness

Thumbs up I would read them...again.

Whoops, forgot I posted about this.

Yes, I read the book, was so intrigued I read the second and third.

I've never read erotica before so it was a surprise but I'm far from prudish
so it didn't bother me.

There is danger and adventure but the love story is what kept me reading.

I read that the books were loosely based on the twilight characters. I've never read the books or seen the movies so I don't know. But I don't see Kristin Stewart or Rob Pattison(?) as these characters at all. My imagination went with a young Christian Bale or very young Jim Caviezel

I've just started reading this book. It's probably a bit more descriptive than most romance novels ( haven't read any about S & M) but I don't have a problem with that. Yes, yes, I can see Jim Caviezel playing the part of Christian. Love him!!

I personally am enjoying these books. I'm half way through the 2nd book. I can understand though this may not be for everyone.

I read that Ian Somerhalder (from Vampire Diaries and Lost) is hoping to get the role of Christian Grey. I have all 3 ebooks but haven't started reading them yet.

I always thought he should have played Edward...that would be amazing!

I read all three books but can't say that I really enjoyed them. The writing just seemed really poor and I got tired of reading the same eight to ten phrases over and over again. Oh well, live and learn.

I heard that as well, with maybe his girlfriend as Ana.

I think...oh, crud, the gal playing in The Hunger Games - I think she would be a good Ana.

I could see a younger Christian Bale being CG.

I've read, reread, and reread them! Googled lots, laughed, cried and love a love story with a very adult twist!

Really liked these. As soon as I finished the third book, I started the series again. I felt like I missed a bunch the first time (maybe I was in a bit of shock) Definitely not made for young ones. But, I really liked the love story at the heart of it all. My doctor says that it has increased a lot of women asking for more from their significant others.

Well, the Fifty Shades of Grey is still spiraling out of control as word spreads! I'm late getting on the bandwagon. I don't usually pick a book based on current hype and I have a big list of books I'd like to read. This set got bumped to the top. In my large circle of friends and acquaintances on FB and in the real world, it seems like everybody and their dog is reading it or has read it. I haven't seen one negative comment on it until the one I've seen on here.

I'm 3/4 of the way through the first book and enjoying it. I'm finding it very tame but that's mostly because I had heard so much hype about it that I thought it would be raunchier than it was. It's not the "smut" that keeps drawing me in, it is the development of the characters and the storyline. It makes you wonder what will happen next and how the love story will play out. It certainly is fodder to make women think especially in the era of women's liberation and power.

In the stores here, they can't keep it on the shelves. Last week at our local Costco, I heard they had one copy left and two women almost got into a fist fight trying to gain control of the book LOL! It is also interesting to read the origins of this triology. Take a look at the wiki:

Fifty Shades of Grey - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

And on another interesting note, I read an article that says online stores that sell the type of "equipment" used in the book are seeing sales soar through the roof as women try to recreate some of the scenes with their partners. Maybe this is good for the economy LOL!

Anyone else have anything to share?

Like you, I've got a large list of books I want to read and this got bumped up to the top because of recommendations of friends and family. I'm about 3/4 thru the first one. It's not difficult reading, but I find it a bit hard to read because it doesn't keep my attention. The "smut" doesn't bother me. I actually find her descriptive writing very intriguing, it's her character development and their personalities that bore me and put me off. I just can't buy into them. They seem very one dimensional and non-believable. My husband said it best when I was picking the book apart. He said "Nobody watches porn for the plot and characters." I'll probably read the other two only because I hate to leave things unfinished, but this won't be something I recommend without criticism.

I'm now half way through the third book. There is much more story and less sex in the third as compared to the second two. I think it is a good read. Friends who have finished it say the ending leaves room for a fourth book, maybe even from Christain's perspective. Should be interesting!

The reviewer I read wasn't impressed with the writing. Of course I doubt one reads erotica for the writing skills. I don't read romances though, so I don't think it's my cup of tea.

Gale,

You are too funny. I think the "juicy" parts start about half way or so through the book. All three of them are great!

I read the first one. My take is the believability of the characters. She's 22 and so attractive, never had sex, no experience and she chooses this guy? He is honest with her from the beginning, even gives her many outs and she still "asks" for her then is appalled whe he gives it to her! Give me a break! Someone told me you had to remember her age and maturity level.

Believability? Who's looking for Believability in these books? Surely some of you have seen some of these things poking fun at the story line:

Christian Grey Fifty Shades Of Grey Erotic Boyfriend Funny Ecard | Confession Ecard | someecards.com

This is just two of a whole bunch LOL!
