Default Blog candy question/s

Lots of people put up blog candy on their blog for others to try to win and I was thinking I would like to do this too BUT, and this might sound awfully dumb, I have no idea how to go about it.

Apart from gathering up bits & pieces for the candy itself (easy part) what else is involved in setting it all up, like the Mr Linky thing that people have to click and does that automatically select a winner etc etc. I need lots of details please.

I would be so grateful if someone could explain what to do step by step please.

There's really no firm and fast rule. I think the most common is just to ask people to leave a comment on the blog post that advertises the blog candy. Give them a deadline, and then find some way to randomly pick a winner from all the comments.

Once you assign a number to all the entries, Random.org is a good way to pick the winner.
