Oh Diane, that sounds like some great loot! I, too, am a night owl! I can shop all night but I don't like to get up with an alarm!

So try this...and I am not professional, but this is what I do...

Get a big piece of posterboard and fold it in half. This will be like your little studio. Place it on a desk or whatever. Then take a light (from your craft table or whatever) and shine it onto the card. Take the picture.

I photo edit in Picasa. It is a free program from Google. You can crop, straighten, color correct or boost...it works really well.

I like Siobhan's idea for taking pictures. I take two pieces of white printer paper and put them on my laptop, put my laptop near a window and take the picture. If it is a nice day out, I will take my laptop outside and photograph the card. My problem is sometimes it's windy and blows everything down which can be very frustrating. I then use my photo shop program that came with my camera to "fix" the pictures if needed.

LOL Pam! I can just see you running after your cards!

I wish I could go outside here. We are down to probably 4 hours of daylight...we have light before that though, like a sunrise and set. Also, the sun never really gets much above the horizon right now. Not to mention how cold it is...brrr!!

Oops, forgot you're in Alaska. Don't think I would be out there either taking pictures. LOL

My father was in the Army and we lived in Alaska too. I don't remember anything (was 2-3 yrs old) except a moose at our kitchen window and an earthquake. My brothers and I were down in the basement and I remember my mom standing at the top of the stairs with a look of terror on her face. Everything was fine we just couldn't get up the stairs at that moment.

Enjoy your few short hours of daylight and stay warm.

I'm not sure if I'll be of much help, but I'll tell you what I do. I take most of my photos in my kitchen where it's nice and bright. I haven't had great results using natural lighting so I close my kitchen blinds and I turn on the lights. I set my camera on the macro (the little flower) setting with no flash and I just snap a picture. Then I upload my photos into my Kodak easy share program and there I can crop and enhance my photo if necessary. It took me a while to figure out what worked best for me and once I purchased my new camera (2 years ago) my photos were a lot better. HTH

Kari,

I actually went out and purchased a small light tent with two lamps to photograph my cards. I too wasn't happy with the quality I was receiving. Also, I always use a tripod.

The software I have to edit my pics is Photoshop Elements.

I'm off to visit everyone.

I've learned that you just have to play around with your camera, lighting, and card placement. Everyone has their own way of taking photos. I tried so many different ways untill I found something that worked for me.

Did you try making a photo box? That's inexpensive and it just might work for you.

I read a post here on SCS a long time ago about taking photos. I created a simple lightbox by cutting the sides and top out of a cardboard box and taped tracing paper (may also use tissue paper) over the open sides and top. I put white foam board in the back and bottom but have also seen it with white paper. I have two desktop lamps that we put white light bulbs in and I shine the light down from the top and place my card in the center of the box. I upload them to photo shop and use auto adjust to fix the lighting and colors. Other than that I only know how to add the white border and my signature on the photos. Not very good use of my software so I haven't upgraded from the 5.0 antique version I have.

You do more than I do. LOL! To take photos I put my cards on top of my washing machine because that is the only room with fluorescent lighting. I don't edit my photos-I usually am doing good just to take them and post. I would like to make a photo box; it sounds pretty easy.

That's almost like I do. I have ceramic heating units in my home and so I just set my cards on the heater in my kitchen. I don't have a light box or anything.

Sometimes I think the background on my cards sort of washes them out a bit, but I really don't have time to set up a background or anything. The wall in my kitchen where I take my photos is purple.

Hey girls!

Just so you know, we got approved and got our tickets to go to Florida for Christmas! DH is getting 3 weeks off and this is our first time to his parent's home for the holiday in 7 years! (We have been overseas a long time...) Anyway, I am not sure what access I will have, but I will be sparse for a while.

I am sooo excited! Booked rooms at Disney for three days to start our trip, too!

I hope everyone has a very Happy Holiday season!

Pam - Thank you so much for the "Stylish Blog Award"! I appreciate you thinking of me and will post it this weekend.

Ladies - I know things are starting to get hectic for everyone and I want to keep this fun and stress free so don't worry if you can't post as often as usual.

Have a great weekend and I will be visiting all of you!

Hi Ladies,

I hope everyone is doing well. I received an email from Karen at Feline Creative and she had decided to leave our group. Things have been hectic for her lately and she feels she is not able to commit. I know we will miss having her.

This past week has been a little crazy for myself and I apologize for not getting around to everyone as much as I usually do. Last week I had to have a biopsy done and I have been on "pins and needles" waiting for the results to come back. Normally, I wouldn't be such a wreck about it, but two years ago I was diagnosed with cancer so I guess you could imagine how I felt waiting. Anyway, the good news is I am ok and this is the best Christmas present I could receive. I still have to go every three months for check-ups.

Kari - I'm glad you finished your Christmas cards. What a relief!

Patty - It is good to hear from you and hope you get to bake those cookies soon.

To everyone in the group let's keep this stress free and if you can't post until after the first of the year I am fine with that. We all have a lot going on.

Donna,
congrats on the great news. My mom is currently fighting Pancreatic cancer and it is not fun.

Michelle,
welcome to the group.

I haven't posted in few days but I do have a card that I finshed so will try to post that soon.

Michelle,

In Blogger go to your dashboard and click on Design.

Click on Add a gadget and you will have a window open with a list of things you can add. Scroll down until you see add a Link List or Blog List (either one will work). There will be this blue cross you can click on.

Then another window pops up, and you can type the title of the group. Then underneath, you should have a place to add the Link List. To add the address, you open up the window of the blog, copy the address at the top, and then paste it where it says New Site URL. Add the person's name and click add link

After you have added everyone, don't forget to click on the orange save button!

Diane,

I'm so sorry to hear about your mother and can just imagine what she is going through. I will keep your family in my prayers.
