No tooth problems here, just need to go for a cleaning. It's Maxine that had the extraction, so I guess her tooth is doing okay too.

So far, so good. The workshop and meeting went well yesterday at church. I learned a lot of stuff and need to put some of it into practice. I really really need to get myself on some kind of schedule.

Good morning Stamp Addicts.

As to tape, I use a couple different kinds for different things. My favorite is the Scotch double-sided. It really holds all those layers together.

Oops.....I thought it was Maggie with the tooth problem! Maxine - hope it's all better now.

I'm kinda lost on the tape discussion here............I use the Snail and the ATV (are those the right initials here?) gun. In the gun I use the Scotch brand - since I can buy it at Hobby Lobby with a 40 % off coupon. I'll have to check out the Tape Deport now! I just use the Snail for small pieces - it really doesn't stick well at all though and usually the next day I can just peel the layer right off. I hate using glue though.

Just wanted to let everyone know that I got an e-mail from Marilyn this morning and she's going to be dropping out of our group. She's trying to simplify some things in her life right now. I can understand this completely!

So, we're down to 9 of us now. If you want to add any more, let me know - otherwise I guess we'll go with just us right now. Whatever y'all want to do is fine with me.

That's too bad, but I can understand when other things get in the way. Wish her all the best. I'm okay with the way things are, but it's up to the group.

I'm sorry to see Marilyn go, but fully understand. Sometimes we need to do that.

I'm okay with staying the size we are - or if the group wants to add someone, I'm okay with that, too.

I'm sorry I didn't stop in earlier today... it's been a wild day.

I'll see you tomorrow morning!

Default Hello

I am up late tonight- Yikes- look at the time! The line dancing was fun, but did not last long enough.....we missed the early lesson, so we watched for a while- I think you need more formal lessons- there are certain dances that go with certain songs- and we did not know them.......But, when they gave lessons, everyone in our group was out on the floor. There is one couple that always leaves at 10:30- always- they left at 12MN.....really!

Oh- and Ray rode the bull...... He lasted almost 13 seconds.....

I just saw on an e-mail that SCS is going to start (Feb.) having challenges with mixed media techniques- which they describe as more than one media. I am excited- I am following a blog where there are mixed media tutorials daily this month- and it does not cost anything- lots of low calorie treats and offers for the recipes too! Hahahaha After Christmas, we all need Low cal treats. huh???

I had better get to bed- I will stop back tomorrow- I have to blog hop too- I usually do it during the good wife, and it was hopping tonight, so I had to pay attention!

Shelly

Morning Addicts!

I didn't have a chance to get on SCS at all yesterday, our church's annual meeting went until about 1:30, then when I got home, had a text from DS & girlfriend to come to their place for dinner. Dashed around making them a thank you card for some above & beyond help they gave over the holidays. Then threw a salad together and went to their place. It was so nice to see them and catch up on their classes, jobs, etc.

Marilyn, we will miss you but completely understand about simplifying your life. I'm ok with our group staying this size, but I'm open to what everyone else thinks is best.

Shelly, thanks for the deets on the line dancing & bull riding - wow! Hmmmmm, low calorie recipes would be good. You are a master at mixed media. I'm not sure whether I could do it, though Definitely uncharted territory for me. I'll be interested to see what others do.

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Shelly, I tried line dancing once. I was DD's Girl Scout leader and we had a line dancer come and teach us some moves. I was not coordinated enough to do it, but the girls did great... and we ALL had fun!

Darlene, sounds like you had a nice evening yesterday after a busy day!

Lynn, hope you tucked yourself in all snuggly!

YAY Jeanette you didn't blink - woot, great group shot!

Glad you had fun with the line dancing even if you didn't get to do much. yes, I think a lot of those dances are choreographed rather then just getting out there - each has certain steps to follow. WTG Ray!

Hahahaha! Yes, I'm all for low cal treats. Where are you finding those tuts?

Kelly- I have never heard of Flamenco...... is it a type of dancing?

I have 2 more days off until my week on (which starts Thursday) ....we have a wedding Sat. and I have to work, but will go to the reception. I need to get a card done for that- may stamp more tonight. I seem to need a few Sympathy cards.....and none in my stash..... I have to run to the eye Dr. tomorrow for a repeat on a test and pick up new glasses..... and water exercise- it is in warm water- heavenly! I have a meeting at work and then an allergy shot....and will get home mid afternoon- need to study Chinese.... Oh boy..... I had better go to bed at a decent time tonight : ) before 2am hehehe

My Mom is having trouble with her computer- Ray had her download Team Viewer- he can see what she is doing- it took an hour to download the program...she is trying to open a pdf in an important e-mail, and she cannot figure out what to do- they have been on the phone for about 2 hours now- he is getting a little frustrated.......

Marilyn- you will be missed- and I do hope you will be back when you have more time!

Off to blog hop, then to go get the wedding card going.

Tad warm here today - according to whom you were talking to, it varied between 30 - 33oC. Officially we were 29oC (think 83 - 88oF) Time to water the garden soon.

DISCUSSION OF THE WEEK.....................

Craft shows, Etsy, and selling cards! Has anyone ever tried to sell their cards at craft shows, on Etsy, etc......and how much did you charge for them? Do you think it's worth the time and effort to attempt this? ETC..........

I have an Etsy shop set up, but have yet to have the time to post any of my cards in there. I really want to do that since it's about the only place I have for selling cards. There aren't really any craft shows around here (at least that advertise) to take part in.

Interesting topic to discuss... I'd love to have an outlet for selling cards.

I have several online friends who have tried selling cards in etsy shops and not one of them has sold a single card. I guess I see how that could happen... crafters will browse there and find ideas to CASE but not purchase. KWIM?

I'd thought of opening an etsy shop, but their experiences has kind of kept me from trying it.

Sooooooooooooo I'm hoping I'll hear success stories here and feel comfortable giving it a try.

If you start selling your cards, does it become work instead of fun???

I wonder if you set up another page on your blog and posted them there...then you have to wonder- how do you ship it and include a clean envelope and blah blah blah..........

I am so bad at mailing cards out- even to relatives...... But, My Mom and daughter Katie- they save all of the cards I send.

Oh- Katie has just started getting cards from before the Holidays- she has received 6 so far......and not ours yet..... I do not understand how a 20 lb box can get there in a week, and a card can take > 30 days........

They are gearing up for the Chinese New Year- quite exciting. In China, you have to celebrate ON THE DAY of the event- no family gatherings the weekend before or after for them....so the trains and bus' and hotels etc are just packed!

And- Thanks again to all who sent her cards- it is a nice touch of home!

Have a great day

Thought I'd throw my 2 cents worth in here...........

Craft shows......Jim and I used to set up at shows (not many) where we sold like barn wood furniture (that was really big for a while) and things he'd made out of metal since he used to weld some. Things like tables, etc. We had one show where he did extremely well - and the rest, not so much. So many people would just come by and say "I could make that". Of course they never do though. Also I saw that people wanted everything dirt check - and didn't account for the time and material you spent to make it. We have quite a few shows (locally) in the area in the spring and summer. Very small scale. We did meet a lot of interesting people though. At one of the shows there was a lady selling SU and things she'd made - but never saw her doing much business at all.

Etsy - I don't ever go on Etsy, so was wondering about all that. I've seen quite a few blogs where they say they have an Etsy shop.

A couple of years ago I sold my cards (baby and toddler birthday) to a baby/toy store in Wimberly (small tourist town a couple of hours from here) and they actually sold very well. The owner bought them from me and then re-sold them. They went out of business and the lady moved a little over a year ago - so that ended that. I didn't get rich by any means and it was fun - for a while - but it got to where it was more of a chore than anything. If I remember right, I was selling them to her for $3.50 and she would turn around and sell them for $5.00. I have A TON of baby stamps though!!!! LOL! I also sold a few cooking/kitchen related cards to a nearby specialty kitchen store. They also went out f business. Hey, maybe it was MY cards that was causing these ladies to go out of business! LOL!!!

Other than that, I've never really sold any - or tried.

When I was teaching and would give cards and other paper craft items as gifts to my colleagues, they always told me I should sell my cards. I still hear that sometimes, but now my comeback is ..."Sure, how many do you want to buy?" They get awfully quiet and change the subject!
I know for me making cards to sell would take the fun out of crafting. Sometimes making cards for my DT positions feels more like work than fun.

I make cards for fun and I hope even with the DT's, that it stays that way. Even though I'm under a time crunch to get something done, I always think it's fun to pick the image and then all the pieces that go with it to put a card together. I try to make cards that I will use, but sometimes the theme of the challenge isn't something that I can use - like Father's Day or Grandparent's Day. My parents are both gone as well as my grandparents. The cards that I would sell are those that I can't use for my stash.

Like you Paige, people oooh and aahhh over my cards, but none of them have wanted to buy any either. I'm thinking that there are some out there that would. Just have to find them.

I'm having massive computer issues tonight. We had some VERY strong wind ( like 30 to 45 MPH) this afternoon and don't know what it did - but my computer is SLOWER THAN DIAL-UP!!!!!! Awful! Gotta call the provider in the morning.
Will be back when I can

Really early good morning to all of you! Can't sleep - again.

Lots of you are having wild weather tonight, hope that you are all safe. Our winds get here tomorrow night (Weds).

DOTW: same as some of you have noted-lots of people comment that I should sell my cards but I'd rather give them as gifts.

Years ago, the young woman who got me hooked on card making tried selling her cards at craft fairs but it didn't turn out well. I think that selling cards in specialty retail shops could be successful, but so many are going out of business these days.

Any thoughts on my part about selling cards would have to wait until I have more time. Right now I have my hands full professionally and have limited time for fun and crafting. I wouldn't want to add stress to that time!

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Oh, Lynn... I hear you on the wind! Yikes! We had nearly 70 mph winds for quite a while yesterday; then a massive thunder storm. Hello! It's January!!! Oh well. Weather is wild sometimes. LOL! (Our internet went completely down during the wind; and then we lost power for several hours in the thunderstorm.)

I love being on DT's... guess you could tell that by looking at my siggy. They keep me creating.

I think I would also like to sell some cards, just don't know where/how to do that.

Bummer! Have you figured out what is wrong with it? Have you been able to get the heat fixed at your house?

Good morning Stamp Addicts! We had rain last night and wind, but not the strong ones like Lynn and Jeanette. It's a beautiful day here now with the sun out, but it's only 56*.

Back again............. they got everything going right this morning early.

REALLY some wind around here.....Day before yesterday we set a record in San Antonio for 86 degrees. We're about an hour and a half from there (south-west) so it's always a couple of degrees warmer here. I thought we were going to have to turn on the AC - but just opened all the windows and that felt great! Tonight it's suppose to get close to freezing......CRAZY weather!!

When I was making the cards for the baby/toy shop and the kitchen shop, it really did get to be a JOB and not fun! The baby shop was the worst I guess. I'd get about 20 cards sent to her and then the next week she'd holler saying she was running out! I kept thinking that must be the only place in town to buy a greeting card! LOL! Don't think I ever want to do something like that again.

Maggie, if you get up and running on Etsy you'll have to let us know how you do!

Good Afternoon! Wow on the wind and wacky weather ~ hope everyone is doing better today!

DOTW: Haven't sold a thing, ever! LOL! Then again, I haven't tried and don't know much about selling or any stores I tend to donate most of everything rather than just go through the hassle of postal issues/mailing/problems at the end of the receiver. I used to sell on ebay and although that was 100% successful, sometimes it was a lot of running around!

xoxo

Jeanette.......y'all had HORRIBLE winds!!! WOW! That's almost like a hurricane!

BOOKS! LOL! I had to actually go back and look - I haven't ebayed since 2008! I would list books when I was finished with them but sold VERY few things - my 350+ transactions are almost all purchases - SU stamps, books, scrapbook embellishments Years ago, the online stores for scrap-bookers were few and far between or cost a fortune for 1 set of Jolees (i.e) and I had to buy from ebayers at 1/8 of the cost. It was fun times!

Just checking in here.

Kelly, that sounds more like me - buying instead of selling! LOL!

Oh, I updated the list on the first page of our forum with the names of all the members and their blogs. Let me know if I missing someone - but don't think I have.

Dropping in to say hello.....nothing mush new here today- starting my week 'on' of working tomorrow. We have a wedding Sat- I will miss the wedding cause I am working, bit will go to the reception.

We had a huge thunderstorm on Tuesday with wind- but not 70MPH..... the dog was shaking and went and hid in the basement. More rain then snow flurries today. It is going to get really cold- our weather is so strange this year!

I think selling on e-bay is a big pain- like Kelly- you have to run to the P.O and check on postage, then wait for payment and then run back to the P.O. again...... One time, I sold a bunch of punches and gave a flat rate, and they did not fit in the box....so it cost me to sent them more than I made.....well, I did have alot of room that I did not have before......

Thanks Lynn for updating the front page- did we decide on getting new members or not???
