Lynn my butterfly bush got planted in the middle of a drought and I only needed to water it once in the early days - they must be tough cookies!

I have two big pots of caladiums every year. I don't dig up the bulbs in the winter, but usually end up planing a couple more in the pots every year since they all may not come back up. Also have some around a tree outside that I love - it's must a matter of trying to keep them watered though. The pots are easy to maintain since they're on the back patio and I see them all the time. For hummingbirds (the little beggers!!!) and butterflies I have a plumbago and also a butterfly bush. I'm sure the butterfly bush probably has a fancier name than that - but whatever. Now I wouldn't recommend a cactus - but we have one outside the fence in the back (thorn-less) and it gets these big yellow flowers on it. The hummers LOVE that stuff! It's the kind you just find growing out in the countryside. Jim dug it up from somewhere and stuck it outside the fence. I'm not crazy about it - one thing it's not pretty at all when it's not blooming and they grow FAST! About the only way to get rid of one is to dig up the whole thing and they're big!!!
(Oh, the reason I called the hummingbirds "beggers" is because we have two feeders and are having to fill them at least once a day!!! LOL!!! And sugar isn't as cheap as it once was! I do love watching them though - so we just keep on feeding. We probably have 20/30 that are there all day.
I wish I had more hummingbirds. 2 years ago I had about 5 that came. Last year I only noticed 2, but I wasn't out as much, so there could have been more. I hope to spend more time outside this Summer. Oh, our hummers only come around here during the Summer time.

Good morning Stamp Addicts.

It is so sad about the devestation in OK. This morning they said there were 91 dead and at least 20 were children. I can't imagine having to deal with that great loss.

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Maggie, my heart is breaking for Moore OK, too. So sad!!!

About hummingbirds... I love those little feathery friends for a unique reason! My dad is a HUGE bird lover. Many many years ago - my parents had been feeding the hummingbirds for a few years and the masses had started coming to their farm. My mom was making literally gallons of syrup each week to feed the several hundred hummers that would come each spring/summer day. So, my dad (theh HUGE bird lover) decided to give up smoking so they could spend the $$$ he spent on cigarettes to buy sugar for the hummingbird syrup instead. Those hummers may well have saved him from getting lung cancer. (He'd been smoking from the time he was 14.)

Jeanette! What a fabulous story. I love it! Yeah for your mom and dad. I don't think I want hundreds coming to my feeder, but a few more than I have now would be great!

Jeanette, that's a fantastic story about your parents and the hummingbirds! How wonderful for you dad too - he saved the hummingbirds and may have saved himself too! I can't image that many coming to our feeders on a daily basis! I wouldn't have any money to spend on crafting stuff - it'd all go to sugar! LOL!

We just got through putting up eight dozen ears of corn. Whew! We always buy our corn and this year it was very good. This will last until next year now. Just a lot of work.

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Maggie and Lynn, I still get goosebumps when I think of what my dad did for the hummers and what they did for him.

BTW, many years later, my parents decided to sell their hobby farm and become full-time RV'ers... and I think the most difficult thing that factored into that decision was their concern for the hummingbirds. They were so concerned about what would happen when the little "friends" returned that summer and didn't find any birdfeeders.

Oh, Jeanette, I hope that the people who bought the farm would continue taking care of them. Did they pass on to them what they had been doing.

I think about my outside kitties like that - what would happen to them if I moved or if something happened to me and I couldn't take care of them.

Default Hello

Hello- back from Kentucky- Dad is in Rehab- he was told he needs to be more mobile before he can go home.......that does not make him the least bit happy! He cannot put weight on his Rt leg yet..... Mom is exhausted, so it will give her a rest hopefully.......

I have a list of stamping to get done and have absolutely NO MOJO!!! I should do my blog hopping this afternoon and see if it will motivate me! Hehehe

Kelly- How can I find you on FB? I want to be your friend : ) and see the Prom pictures! I love your Grad card- too sweet- and as always- perfect DP!

Lynn and Jeanette- we had one hummingbird last summer that liked our Petunia's. We got a feeder that you stick to the window, but the birds kept flying into it- some just would be stunned, others- well....we ended up taking it down. We have a big bird feeder that has a weighted stand, and it spins if too much weight gets on it.....aka a squirrel..... I love to watch birds! Jeanette- do your parents have a birdfeeder or anything with the RV so when they stop that can still attract birds? My hubby and I talk about doing the RV route....we'll see!

I will keep Paola in prayers- and pray for a speedy recovery too!

Maxine- I will have to look up Butterfly bush......we are going to plant more out in the yard- but AFTER the brick patio gets installed...... And, how are you feeling?

Maggie- you are sure getting a ton done on and around the house! Nothing like dressing up a room with window treatments!

Shelly

Welcome home Shelly. Yes, once you have a house, there's always something that needs to be done.

I went out to dinner with the Single Chicks tonight and had a great time with enough food left over for lunch tomorrow.

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Maggie, alas, no... the young people who bought my parents' farm cared nothing about the birds - or nature, for that matter. They just liked the house and being rural. So the birds lost their favorite diner.

Lynn, I'm glad you adopted my parents hummers.

Welcome home, Shelly! I'm sorry your dad isn't happy... hopefully he'll make great progress and will soon be home again. My parents are no longer fulltime RV'ers. They did that for over a decade though and loved it. They now live on the very edge of a teeny tiny town - their backyard looks out onto my sister's best friend's farm. My parents refer to it as "the farm". LOL! They love it there... and they do feed birds! But not nearly the vast numbers of before.

Morning all - a cold one here - well it's a mild frost, but one of our first so it feels cold!

Not much on the go here today so hopefully I will get/make some creative time.

Good to see you here Shelly - I hope your Mother can get some rest. I am still upright and overall not too uncomfortable, thanks.

I have loved the discussion on Hummimgbirds - don't have them, but we do have our native Tui's and Bellbirds which have gorgeous calls, and the Tui has stunning looks. They are also sugar feeders.

I'm going to have to look those birds up on the computer and see what they look like now Maxine! My brother is very much a bird watcher so every time we see an interesting bird out here we look it up. We also have a book of the birds of Texas and that helps a lot.

Shelly, again, so glad your dad is doing better. I know he doesn't want to be where he is right now but it's best for everyone. Hopefully your mom can get rested up now so she'll be ok when he comes home.

Maggie, your dinner with the Single Chicks sounds like so much fun!!! What a great group y'all must be.

I gotta go.........a friend just sent me one of the new SU catalogs and I'm off to devour all the pretty things! LOL! Has anyone heard of any good Memorial Day sales coming up for the weekend?

It seems so funny now that you start talking about frost and cold and it's "hot and steamy" here today! Although there are still some places in the US that are still having cold weather. Unbelieveable.

I had to look up photos of those birds - so pretty!

I haven't gotten my catty yet. I still need to check to see if there is anything I need from the retiring stuff. There have been a few sales on the internet around that I've seen. What are you interested in?

Good Morning Fellow Stamp Addicts!

Oh, Maxine... I need to check out those birds. I've never heard of them. Are they small like hummingbirds?

Maggie... I was NOT happy with our colder weather yesterday. It had been so nice - we'd had the windows open for days! Then yesterday it turned COLD - even DH was cold - so we closed the windows. I woke up in the night - only to discover DH had also turned the heat back on. ACK! I want my warm weather back!

Morning!

Yep, it's really hard to think of cold weather right now. We've just been so hot around here. We did get somewhat of a little shower this morning so that was nice. I'd forgotten what rain actually looked like!!! LOL!

As far as the sales - just seeing what's out there I guess. I know there should be a bunch of places having them. I went through the SU catalog last night - and oh my goodness!!!! I kept putting post-it note in the pages where I wanted stuff - and when I got through it was just FULL of those things! Now I get to go back and see what I REALLY want. Everything looks so pretty.

Going to try and finish a few graduation cards today. Gotta get this off in the mail and delivered early this coming week. Thanks again Kelly for the images. I have all but one colored up and now just need to come up with a CAS design for them so it doesn't take a long time.

Anyone have plans for the long weekend (if you have one)?

I know that 7kidscollegefund, A Cherry On top, Reasonable Ribbons all have sales this weekend.

Do any of you belong to Blitsy.com?? They have a sale every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday or various things. Today they have Petaloo flowers on sale, and I'm probably going to order a bunch.

I just put up a blog post that shows lots of pictures of the sample SmashBook/Journal we'll be making with the preteens while I'm in Thailand if you'd like to take a look.

Wow! What an awesome job you did on that. All the pages are fabulous. So will you be taking all the materials with you so they can make one? Or do they have to purchase that somewhere in Thailand?

Thank you, Maggie! I am in the process now of putting together the kits - I had to make the sample first. I'll take a kit for each of the preteens we'll have. They won't be buying anything. We have 4 girls and a boy plus a male teenager who will be helping us. So I'm making a kit for all 6 of them - but they don't have to make one if they don't want to.

That's really nice of you to make those kits up for those kids. I'm sure they will enjoy putting them together.

Oh, I got an e-mail today from the window company that my windows have been shipped and received at the warehouse! Now I just need to get in touch with them and schedule the installation which I'd like to do next Friday. Since my kids are out of town, I'm using this weekend to get all the rest of the stuff packed up and moved that I can do ahead of time and taking down the curtains, valances, blinds, and shades. Already got a good start on that tonight, but I ran into some trouble with getting the brackets down from the roman shades. I called a guy from church to see if he could come help me one night this week to finish up the job. If we take all the blinds down, I'll tack up some sheets over the windows until the windows get installed. I didn't mention to him that I'm going to need help putting the roman shades and blinds back up. Those roman shades are heavy.

Good morning Stamp Addicts.

No, the appointment is not scheduled yet. I tried to call yesterday, but by the time I did they were closed. Not sure if they are open on the weekends or not. I may try later today, otherwise I'll have to wait until Tuesday after the holiday.

I did get some more work done last night in my stamp room. Packed up more stuff, took down one of my tables I use.

Took down 2 of my roman shades in the dining room and all of the curtains/valances around the house. I'm going to try to get some of the blinds down today. I may have to tack up some sheets over the windows for now.

Some time next week my Home Teachers (church) are going to come over and help with the blinds/brackets. I couldn't get the roman shade brackets undone. Then all I'll need to do is move things away from the windows the night before they come.

My new yard man is supposed to come at 10 a.m. this morning so I'm going to try to get out to the grocery store early before he comes.

Oh, and I now have another story to tell, but it'll have to wait until later. Just got home from the grocery store and now headed up to Houston Garden Center to get a Crepe Myrtle to plant in the back yard and maybe some butterfly/hummingbird attracting plants. BBL

Hello Addicted Friends - I'm back home!!
Sure missed being online here and chatting with each of you. I'll have to go back and catch up.

I did see that Shelly has been out of town helping her parents also. {{hugs & prayers}} for you and them, Shelly! Hoping that you and your mom get some rest and keep your strength up.

I hope to uncover my stamping counter and get crafty time today. Haven't played with paper and ink since the end of April! Sounds like some therapy is in order, hahahaha

Hmmmm, there's a LOT of stuff on my craft counter - only some of it was there when I left home a month ago. Looks like I found where hubby deposited the mail every day

Jeanette, your journal is fabulous!!!!! Those kids are going to have so much fun putting one together! Especially after seeing yours!

Maggie, we need to hear the story now! LOL! Sounds like you're as busy as a bee getting all that done to the house. Glad you're going to have help with the shades/brackets, etc.

Darlene, so glad you're home safe and sound! Have fun trying to catch up on all the mail and that type of stuff.

Maxine, you said y'all were getting more rain. Do you have a rainy season there or is just that time of year to get rain? We actually got 2 inches of rain yesterday!!!! It was beautiful. I'd forgotten what it looked like. It won't help the grass and crops much, but at least it settled the dirt some. This morning, San Antonio, which is about an hour and a half from here got 8 to 10 inches of rain in 2 hours!!!! Said the whole town is flooded! Maybe we'll get a little more tonight - keep your fingers crossed!
