I just saw that too Maggie and all the destruction, how awful. One of the NYC hospitals even had their generators fail.
And it is so weird. My boss just talked to a friend of his that was up in NYC this weekend while he was there and they are at a hotel on Broadway. Said that they have no problems at all. The hotel is running - no power loss, the restaurant across the street was open and doing business, people were walking outside without raincoats. Sounds like they have a bubble over them.
West Virginia got snow, so I wondered how AM is doing. My Sister-In-Law just texted that Lake Michigan has 18 to 36 foot waves. She lives in Interlochen Michigan.
the storm is supposed to turn North today up into Canada, but they are predicting heavy lake-effect snow over Lake Erie which is right where my DD used to live. I KNOW that she's glad not to be there anymore. She takes after her mom - hates the cold weather.
DH has a cousin that lives on Broadway in NY. I should email her sister in CT and see if they are ok.
I think Athina's area might be getting rain and/or snow. I saw that Ohio was having power outages too. I hope she is OK.
Talked to my dad and they didn't lose power at their house but almost did a few times. He said the wind and rain wer ferocious. He didn't see any damage to his house but said leaves are stuck to the siding.
We survived Last night was pretty scary, and I'm glad it's over! We never lost power, but most were not so fortunate. There are lots of trees down and some flooding. A tree fell on a house and then caught fire and burned the house down. I haven't heard for sure, but I don't think the occupants were home.
We're back home and very tired! Today is DH's birthday. I haven't seen him since Sunday, but he said he thinks he will be home sometime today. He's only had 6 hours of sleep since Sunday.
DS just got the mail, and there was happy mail on top! Thanks for the adorable card Maggie. It sure was nice to come home to .

Hi Pam! So glad to hear that you all survived with no damage or injuries. So sorry to hear about the house down the street. Glad that the people weren't home.
I can imagine that you are all tired. Hope you can all get some rest now for awhile.

Glad you are home and safe and sound. Did you end up going to you parent's house?
Glad you are home and safe and sound. Did you end up going to you parent's house?
Yes, we went to my parents' house. DH and my parents don't like us in the country where the wind is really bad, the nearest neighbors are a long run away, and the roads always flood.
There is a fishing village about 90 minutes - 2 hours from here called Crisfield. The storm surge was much higher than expected there and they ended up evacuating 150 people last night in the middle of the storm before high tide hit. I saw a pic, and the whole town is flooded pretty deep. Even the fire company relocated to outside of town....now that's bad!
We are so so so fortunate. We had a leak around a window and the carpet is damp, but nothing major, and our trampoline flipped over and took out a clothesline pole, but that's about it. It's still raining and a little breezy.
I could PM you a couple NOT to apply to that I've had some history with. Also, check the lists of challenges on Feline Playful. They usually will tell you if they are having a Design Team call. I saw 2 last night when I was posting my card. Yes, I like Sketch Challenges too because I'm always looking for a layout.
That would be great if you PM me the info. I just don't want drama, this is suppose to be fun.
I have been watching the DT calls on Feline Playful. I guess I need to get a bit more serious Thanks Maggie.

No problems here. We did get a lot of wind but no damage and still have power. We woke up to an inch and a half of snow this morning. That was unexpected, but no big deal.
I am glad you dad didn't loose power. That would not be good in this cold weather.
I have seen several pics of the damage. It is horrible. The one thing I can say is that in crisis like this people come together and that is a beautiful thing. I would guess that our work will be taking matching donations thru the red cross in a few days and I know they have sent some generators. We have a part center in Windsor Locks, CT and Mt. Laurel, NJ. I know the NJ location is ok and most reported to work today. I have not heard about the CT facility yet.
We made it through Sandy's terrible wrath! What a butthead she is, huh?! We got some rain and some snow flurries, but really heavy almost constant wind for over 24 hours. It ripped several of the screens out of our windows and downed several trees in our yard. Hubby spent most of the day cutting and removing trees from our driveway. We lost siding off of the house and the roads around our house look like a war zone. We live in a heavily wooded area so trees are always a concern for us when the weather gets wonky. Weather can be scary stuff. A tree fell on our phone line, so our internet is flaky tonight. Fortunately though we did not lose power. My gma did lose power, but it has been restored and she is doing fine! Stubborn little thing!
Hope everyone else fared well. Pam, very relieved to know you guys are ok!

I was starting to get worried about you! Glad no trees landed on your house. That is always one of my concerns. Even better that your gma is doing ok!

Oh no, the important thing is that everyone is safe. All the other stuff can be fixed. Glad to hear you did not get the 2 feet of snow. Yikes!
Nancy, you asked about our heat. We have a heat pump, but the guy that installed it did it wrong and so it has never really worked correctly. We also have a cast iron wood burning stove in our living room that heats our main living area. We have vaulted ceilings though so it works it's little self hard to heat the whole area. I am cold by nature though so I have started piling on the sweaters and blankets! LOL

Scary about all the flooding and that they had to evacuate people. Glad it wasn't you. Was there much other damage around where you live?

Hi AM! So glad that you guys are okay and didn't lose your power and that's great that your gma has her power back on already. That's amazing. Sounds like you guys have some repairs to make.

Can't you get someone to come and fix the heat pump? That's terrible that you can't use it. I'm cold by nature also. Surprising since I grew up in the North, but I do hate being cold. I don't even like cold things touching my skin even cold water. I do love to snuggle up under my blankets though in a cool room. I hate my bedroom to be too warm, then I can't sleep.

There were lots of down trees and limbs. One of our friends had a huge tree go into their garage. I haven't talked to them to see how bad it was, but it looked pretty bad. There are lots of flooded houses within 30 minutes of here.
I just read an article about the tree that went into the house and then caught on fire. The wife and two kids were home downstairs, and the tree went into one of the kid's bedrooms. They left the house even before the house caught fire Thank God. The husband is in the military and stationed overseas. They are giving him leave and he was supposed to be here tonight. They had just moved there and hadn't gotten rental insurance yet. So sad That was the worst of the damage. There are still alot of people out of power.

That guy couldn't come back and install it correctly? I would have called and called and called. No warranty on his work?
That sucks.
We had vaulted ceiling too and the pellet stove would add some heat into the upstairs bedrooms if you leave the doors open but not enough so we had to use the furnace too but not as much.

Oh, that is so sad. I'm glad that they are letting him come home to take care of his family.

Oh my gosh that is so lucky they left before it caught fire.
Well, I feel really bad. I was supposed to go visit a lady from church with another lady. She lives in a big apartment complex and I've never been there before. I called her this evening before I left just to confirm where she lived. She told me that the gate wasn't working properly and she couldn't buzz us in, but that she would have her son out by the gate to let us in at 7:30. Both of us were coming from different directions and in our own car. So I get there at 7:30 - don't see any kid around. I was able to follow someone in through the gate and saw someone walking so I asked him where the apartment was. He didn't know but told me to go around toward the front of the complex which I did and still couldn't find it. Asked another girl that was walking and she didn't know either which building it was in. I went out of the complex and then drove down the street and did the same thing all over again - still no kid at the gate to let me in, but I followed someone else in. I did this for about 20 minutes and asked another man where the apartment was, but got nothing from him either. Decided to come home. Called up the lady I was supposed to visit. She didn't say anything about whether her kid was out there or not, but the other lady that was going with me managed to find the place. Guess I find out from her what the story was. I do hate going places that I am unfamiliar with especially in the dark and especially in big apartment complexes where you don't know any of the people. It's kind of spooky.

Oh, no. Nothing at all. I just wasn't expecting it. They said we would get rain. I wonder if this will be a bad winter. We had such a mild winter last year.

Oh my. At least they got out and I am so glad her husband gets to come home to support her. Sometimes the military can not be nice about those things. I heard on the radio this morning there are a lot of electric crews headed north. Hopefully they can get power up quickly for everyone.

Oh, you tried Maggie. I am sure she appreciated the thought.
