So much in fact, that the afternoon before we were scheduled to leave I told DH I really didn't want to go. So, he called the front desk and extended our stay another night! Thankfully we were able to to arrange child care plus keep our hotel room (weekends are pretty full there).
We stayed at a beautiful new hotel called The Aria at City Center. It was amazing. I can hardly wait to go back, lol! It is a 4 hour car ride from our house, but we rented a nice Cadillac for the trip so it really wasn't bad at all. Anyway, I am back home now and thinking about going again DH will be going back there in 2 weeks. He travels a lot for business and is in Las Vegas about every other week. I figure he can work during the day and I can shop or hang out at the pool and then at night we can have fun together I'll tell you- after never getting away for more than 27 years, I am ready to make up for it, haha!

I hope you all are having a wonderful Summer. I guess I have some blogs/ blogging to catch up on this coming week!!!
Hi Sarah, I'm new to the thread and to blogging.

So happy to hear that you and your DH were finally able to get away together sans kids! And Vegas is supposed to be a fabulous place to visit. I've never been there myself, but hear from friends. Good luck with getting to go back again.

Off to check out your blog.

Hi Leslie. I'm new to the thread. Just wanted to say here that I loved your diaper cake. Great job. I've never seen one of those before.

Let's see, textures using papers, paint, found objects, stamps, rub ons, creating layers and scenes with paper and paint, making her she art dolls out of paper and paint. Lots...so much, it's really good.

Hi Ladies! Remember me? I am so, so sorry I have not been around much! But I did just visit everyone's blogs. You all have been up to some AMAZING creating as well as other cool things: Classes, giveaways, donating things, visiting friends.... and all the fun of Summer adventures!

You all have such wonderful blogs! I am so impressed by how you all manage to keep up with them as well as you do. Let's face it, we ALL have busy lives, and yet you ladies find time to create such beautiful things AND post about them to your blogs! You all are certainly an inspiration!

Well... life is no less crazy for me these days and I won't get into it all. But... I actually did find time to make a couple (yes, two!) scrapbook pages! As you know, cards are more my thing, but I am trying hard to become a scrapper! I put one page up on my blog, and the 2nd page will soon follow.

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend! Hugs all around!!

Of course we remember you hun!! So glad to see you. I've been mia myself lately. I have so many ideas running around in my head with things that I want to do, need to do, etc. Computer time has been minimal.
I am so glad to hear you're doing well and enjoying some crafting time.

I hope everyone else is doing well. Hugs to you all.

Good Morning, Ladies!
Thanks so much, Maggie and Cass, for visiting my blog and leaving me such nice comments. I really do appreciate them!

I have a question for you all. I need to buy a new camera. But I know practically nothing about what I should get! I would love to know what cameras you all use and what you do- and don't- like about them. Also, if you were to buy a new camera what would you be looking for? I want easy as can be, but at the same time I know I need to get a lot more serious about my pictures, if that makes any sense, lol!

Well... we have a busy day today including our little dance recital. My youngest DD is taking a dance class for special needs kids. The instructors are actually letting Moms take it with their kids. I am one of only two moms who signed up, and let me tell you- it's not easy for us to keep up with a bunch of teenagers, lol! But, given that I have two left feet and never had the nerve to even try to learn to dance, I figured it's now or never, haha. So, I still have a lot of practicing to do today before our class and little performance. But, it's going to be fun, I am sure.

On Sunday, my younger of my two DS's is going to be in a karate tournament. This is HUGE because it was only a few years ago that he was so sick that he couldn't even go to school. He had to be home tutored for more than 2 years, was on Chemotherapy and other "serious" drugs for over 2 years, and there was a period of several months where it was so bad he couldn't even sit at the table to eat dinner (he actually ate standing up at the kitchen counter). He has been through so much therapy and hard work to get where he is now. Just recently he was officially discharged from Children's Hospital and their therapy program! And to think that he is going to be in his first Karate tournament tomorrow! I am so happy for him and proud of him for all his hard work. He has come so far. God has surely blessed him and our family! I will be taking lots of pics- but imagine I may have trouble seeing through the camera as I just *know* I will be all teary eyed, lol!

What all do you ladies have planned for the weekend?

I have no information about cameras for you Sarah because I really need to get a new one myself. The one I have now is a Kodak EasyShare Z1275. It's just a small digital that I can toss in my purse when I go somewhere. For the most part I like it, but I bought it refurbished a few years ago, and I can tell that it is starting to go out.

We actually have a few similarities in our lives. My oldest DGD just got her Black Belt. She's 17 and going off to college this Fall, well, actually in about a month.

Her younger sister is a dancer. She's loved dance from the time she was a little girl and that's her life's dream - to be a dancer. She takes classes almost every day of the week and has her dance recital in June which I was able to go to this year and they started performing The Nutcracker 2 Decembers ago and I was able to go this past show.

I'm a 2-time cancer survivor and was on chemo for 7 years. Have been cancer free for 6 years now.

Can't wait to see some photos of the Karate tournament and good luck to you and your DD with the dance recital. Maybe someone will take some pictures of you guys. Would love to see some of those also.

Well, see? I have always suspected we all have lots of things in common besides our love of stamping

No worries about any lack of camera advice, Maggie. I am sure I will (somehow) figure it out!

Congrats on your 6 years of being Cancer free! I am so sorry to hear you have been through all of that. I am so glad you are now doing so well! And I should have been more specific about my son's condition: He actually did not have Cancer, but a serious spinal disease which is treated with chemo. As a matter of fact, the karate he is taking is therapeutic! It was developed by a physical therapist who worked at Children's Hospital and was a Karate teacher as well. His program is amazing! He now has a school just for kids with disabilities. All kinds of disabilities; even kids with heart conditions, cancer, blindness... you name it. It's so awesome! They have been in all kinds of magazines and on lots of t.v. news shows, etc. It's really something. I never would have believed just a couple of years ago my son would be moving around the way he is today, let alone be taking karate!!!

Your DDs certainly have accomplished a lot with their dance and karate! And I am so happy for you that you were well enough to see your DD perform in the Nutcracker; that's wonderful! I wish for you to be able to see many, many more performances to come!

Good Evening!
Sarah, my DH bought me a Professional Canon EOS Digital camera for my birthday & I LOVE it!!! The pictures are so much more crisp & clearer than the Kodak that I was using before this one....I'm not knocking Kodak but the indoor pics were horrible on that camera---I don't have that problem anymore! I'm not a novice or anything yet...I'm still getting to know her but so far I'm very impressed & wouldn't trade it for the world!!! I might also add, that despite it looking quite intimidating; I've found that it's quite easy to use...so that's my lil' 2 cents

I've updated my blog & will be visiting you wonderful ladies this evening

Sarah,

About the camera...Mike is a professional photographer. He works in the film industry shooting still photos. You can see his work here: Michael Tackett. Anyways, he recently upgraded his cameras and gave me one of the older ones which was not old at all. It is the Canon EOS 30D. I love it for a variety of reasons...like you I want to step up my photography and Mike is actually training me and we've shot one wedding together. I like knowing how to set the camera up so that it will blur the background etc. I like being able to add a real flash to the camera that will light up the room that is not well lit. My favorite thing about this camera is the Image Stabilizer lense. The fancier the camera, the heavier they get. I already have shaky hands and with my little point and shoot camera, all my photos were blurring because I shake. With the image stabilizer lense, it doesn't matter if your hands shake, your photos will not blur. Technically the digital SLR for beginners is the Canon Rebel. However, since this was a freebie for me, I had to go a little more advanced than I needed. You will love the freedom that comes with learning how to actually use manual mode on your camera. Hope this helps.

Thanks! Looking forward to getting to know you. I need to add you into my sidebar and I think I'll go do that right now while I'm thinking about it.

You ladies with those Canon cameras are soooooo lucky! I checked them out and they are really nice. Guess I need to save up my pennies so I can get a great camera too.

Thank you Jennipher. I'm excited to be a part of this and love to visit all the different blogs. Everyone has their own style and I learn from that.

I've had time to play tonight and have a new post up on my blog.

Good Morning Ladies!

Wow- thanks for all the love on my blog.... you all are awesome! I so appreciate your kind words. It has been challenging getting back to paper crafting after all those months of hand therapy and not doing anything creative. I guess its kind of like riding a bike... after not riding for a period of time, you never really forget, but you definitely are in need of getting back in shape. Hopefully I will get back in the swing of things quickly. I find putting things together does not come so easily and think I just have to keep at it. I am trying to fit time in for that!

As for the camera info.... wow Jenn! Mike is one heck of a photographer! I have a question: I know you live on the East Coast, but his pics all look like stills from Hollywood movies. Does he work in Hollywood???
You sure are fortunate to have such an "instructor"! And how awesome that you can inherit his old cameras! My DD is also a professional photographer and she used to have the 20D and the 40D. But she told me that those are big cameras with big lenses. I am not sure I am ready for that. I had thought I would ask around to you all since you have blogs for pretty much the same reasons I do. I was afraid asking her would not give me the answers I need since she uses her cameras for entirely different reasons than I. But... maybe I will ask her to go out shopping for one with me. It's just so hard for us to get time together. Seems there just aren't enough hours in a day for either one of us, lol!

I just tried to leave a comment on your blog, Maggie. I wrote it, then put in the scrambled words, then got a weird (kind of like an error?) page. It doesn't look like the comment went through. Maybe it will take a while? So I'll check later and try again.

Thank you Sarah for your comment - it did go through. Not sure what the scrambled words were about.

One more thing... As I was looking at everyone's blogs I noticed that Molly is doing a very cool give away. She is going to unload something new and unused every day this month. You know, I think we all have too much stuff. I'll bet I have a month's worth of things I could donate/ give away, too. I am quite inspired by what she is doing. I have some things I could just box up and donate the way I usually do, but it might be fun to do it through my blog. I think the only draw back would be that you could end up having to pay a LOT in postage. At least with donating you could actually get a tax write off, you know? But don't you think it would be fun to put stuff up on the blog and see who might want it? Maybe if you offered things free and the person who was willing to pay the postage could have it? Man, I really need to do some serious de-cluttering and this might be a fun way to get it done. I have everything from never worn clothes to LOTS of crafting stuff and books and decorative things and unused cosmetics and jewelry, etc. etc. etc. What do you all think?

You're welcome, Maggie! Actually the comment that went through was my second try. Hopefully it was just a weird one time thing that my first comment didn't work
Love your card. You did a great job on the challenge. I don't often do challenges. I have a hard enough time making cards without restrictions and rules; challenges just stress me out lol!

Sarah,

To answer your question, yes we live on the east coast but Mike travels and works on location. So wherever the movie is being filmed is where he goes. That could be as close as Wilmington, NC or as far away as Minneapolis, Minnesota.
