I have a question--and it could be a dumb one but I'll ask anyway...I have that same embossing folder you used with the key and clock arms....how did you get the silver on there?

I'm a scientist...nothing is ever a dumb question!

I used a technique found on a recent blog post.... totally cool! It uses gelatos, which I recently bought but hadn't used much since I wasn't quite sure what to do with them. I used the "highlighted embossing"... it was the perfect thing! She has a really good tutorial, check it out at Ink Stains Blog (you have to scroll down a bit). Hope this helps (and it is what you are talking about!!!).

Apparently I'm the dumb one... I should have looked to see which one you were talking about before I spoke..."key and clock arms", not gears! (My #4 ATC uses the technique I mentioned below, which is not in my gallery yet). As for the that ATC, I used sticky back metallic sheets made by Tim. I first adhered them to cardstock and ran them through my machine with the embossing folder. Then I inked the raised part with black stazon ink. Makes the image really pop. Another brand sells the paper in other colors which is also fun to play with. Hope THIS helps!!! LOL

Okay, Krystal. You really are a "scientist!" What great techniques you described both the gelatos and the stick on sheets!

BTW all. On the subject of gelatos: you can buy the kind for kids ("gel sticks" instead of "gelatos") and get the same great colors and effects for much less $! Here is a link to a video tutorial by one of my favorite crafty ladies: gelato backgrounds - YouTube

Have a great and crafty week all!

I have to say, I LOVE both ideas!! I've heard of gelatos but had no clue what it was, so I really appreciate the link! Now I intend to try BOTH techniques!! Your ATC's are beautiful, you really are a scientist to experiment so much!!

hmmm I think I may have to try the Gelato or the gel sticks---probably the gel sticks-- when I can get the same result, cheap is the way to go, made my own modeling paste last night, going to make some stencils today....I think part of enjoying the craft is seeing how much you can reuse, and make something out of nothing---I pick something up and look at it, people around here don't even ask me any more why I didn't just throw that junk away, they just shake their heads, sometimes I feel like I'm on a mission to see just how much I can save to get the results I need--LOL

How did you make the modelling paste? I wanted to buy some today, but it was $20, so I didn't.

well the recipe called for
1c baby powder
1/2c gesso
1/4c mod podge

what I used was
1/2c white craft paint (the cheap stuff)
1/4c home made mod podge
and then I just kept adding baby power until it got to a thick enough paste probably a little more than a cup

putting the power in last keeps it from clumping up

so it's very cheap!----hmmmph does it look like cheap is my concern--yep! then I can get MORE

it smells good once it dries too, just like a baby

Well, I'm back from Las Vegas. The trip was lots of fun, but way too short!
Got to see Donny & Marie at the Flamingo and toured Hoover Dam. It was so dam fun (sorry, I love stupid puns)!

It looks like you all kept busy in my absence. I'm so glad you liked the link to the Frugal Crafter on YouTube that I posted. She is one of my favorites and always has great tutorials and tips.

Debbie, I agree that cheap is best!!

Hope you all have a happy and crafty day!

Default Are these okay?

This is my first Steampunk or even ATC card swap, I am very new. Are these okay for my two? You don't have to stamp the image right? Any critique would be helpful. I am producing this weekend and will get them out Monday.

Happy Monday ladies. Some folks say that steampunk is hard, but you are all really nailing the style! It is going to be so fun swapping these out on Sunday! Woo hoo!

LOL I run faster than any cop alive!! That is, if "running" at the mouth counts. We did have fun; saw Hoover Dam and caught Donny & Marie at the Flamingo. Nothing like a couple of 50-somethings turning into teenage girls again! Great show!!

I will keep my eyes open for your package.

Default DEADLINE EXTENDED

Okay gang, here's the status on the eve of our due date:

Krystal, I checked the delivery confirmation number - your cards are in the area and will probably hit my mailbox tomorrow.
Brenda - your cards are not yet here, but if you mailed them on Monday (4/29) they will probably arrive tomorrow too.
Kim and Eileen - with no way of tracking, I am hoping for tomorrow as well.

HOWEVER, since Saturday is the 4th, I will extend the deadline to Monday, 5/6, just in case. We have had some problems recently with delivery (carrier with bad attitude) and I don't want any of you to suffer for that.

Work has been hectic, can't remember if I posted or not. Sent these out yesterday I think...days are running together, it's Thursday today, right??? LOL. Hope they are there by Monday.

Mea culpa!

Sorry I missed the deadline, but my cards are in the mail today and should be at your house on Monday. Thanks for hosting a cool swap! And many happy returns.
