Banking for my mum for the first of the month, and then driving in to visit with her today.
This is a miserable time of the year to be stuck in a home, so visits are paramount now. I need to get a box of Christmas cards for her, and then we spend the afternoon writing them out for her. She signs her cards as best she can and I write up the envelopes.

An appointment with my Physical Terrorist, a pain management follow up and then spending a birthday gift card to a local stamping store. Home to feed the munchkin lunch and a nap. Stamping for me and then off to pick up the other two from school, homework, dinner and then rehearsal for the musical review I am in for Christmas! Oy

Good Morning Friends!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN!
It’s going to be a SPOOK’y Day!

... ... ... ...

Today is Halloween, of course…
but it’s also Increase Your Psychic Powers Day,
Beggar’s Night,
Books for Treats Day,
National Magic Day,
Girl Scout Founder’s Day,
National Caramel Apple Day,
National Unicef Day,
and National Knock-Knock Jokes Day.

Enjoy your holiday of choice today!

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us to BEWARE!!! It’s Halloween!

A grandmother pretends she doesn't know who you are on Halloween. ~ Erma Bombeck

Halloween was confusing. All my life my parents said, "Never take candy from strangers." And then they dressed me up and said, "Go beg for it." I didn't know what to do. I'd knock on people's doors and go, "Trick or treat . . . no thank you." ~ Rita Rudner

Halloween is the one night a year when girls can dress like a total slut and no other girls can say anything about it. ~ Lindsay Lohan

And now for the really zany—but, for the most part, marvelously ingenious!—

Halloween riddles, puzzles and puns (oh my!):

What do baby ghosts wear on Halloween? White Pillowcases.

Do zombies eat popcorn with their fingers? No, they eat the fingers separately.

Where do fashionable ghosts shop for sheets? [This one is so bad that it's actually quite good!] Bootiques.

What do you call someone who puts poison in a person's corn flakes? A cereal killer.

What do you get when you cross a vampire and a snowman? Frostbite.

What do you call a witch in the desert? A sandwitch.

What does a vampire fear the most? Tooth decay.

Where did the vampire open his savings account? At a blood bank.

Who do vampires buy their cookies from? The Ghoul Scouts

What do you get when you cross Bambi with a ghost? Bamboo.

What do you get when you drop a pumpkin? Squash [!].

What do you call a fat Jack-O-Lantern? A plumpkin.

What do you call a ghost with a broken leg? A hoblin goblin.

Why wasn't there any food left after the monster party? Because everyone was a goblin!

What does a skeleton order at a restaurant? Spare ribs.

Why should a skeleton drink 10 glasses of milk a day? It's good for the bones.

Why don't skeletons like parties? They have no body to dance with.

Why did the witches' team lose the baseball game? Their bats flew away.

How does a witch tell time? She looks at her witch watch.

What was the witch's favorite subject in school? Spelling.

What's the problem with twin witches? You never know which witch is which.

What do ghosts serve for dessert? Ice Scream.

What did the mommy ghost say to the baby ghost? Don't spook until you're spoken to.

What did the mummy say to the detective? Lets wrap this case up.

What does the papa ghost say to his family when driving? Fasten your sheet belts.

PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us that things aren’t always as they seem!

The young couple and their two-year-old daughter Madison went to the home-improvement store.

Madison soon tired of walking, so her Daddy let her ride on his shoulders. As he walked, she began pulling his hair. Although he asked her to stop several times, she kept on.

Getting annoyed, he scolded, "Madison! Stop that!"

"But, Daddy," she replied, "I'm just trying to get my gum back."

Good morning calendar girls

Who had lots trick or treaters last night? We live in the boonies, so I never see any goblins where I am. It was cold & rainy, so as I was driving thru town, I only saw 1 set of parents/child in all my travels. That is one thing I miss about living in town - trick or treaters.

Our doorbell only rang once, and it was the kids across the street, 4 of them. I already had treat bags made for them, I do that every year. So we have lots of candy left.

Our hall puts on a kids party every year. Usually there are around 50 kids but this year because of the freezing rain we only had 25. We did get 6 at our door afterwards plus two moms who needed the washroom, lol.

I got a chuckle out of this. Last night I went with three of our grandsons trick-or-treating around our area. Everyone here holds out the bowl and lets the kids get what they want. The 6 y/o would look into the bowl and if he didn't want anything would say "No thank you" and walk off. And it was the good stuff, he could have at least given it to me!

Happy Mail Alert!

Sherry_Lynn, your package has arrived safely.

Sherry has sent us a very cheerful floral for the month of May. I like the tiny daffodils in the month itself - nice touch. It's a very pretty addition to the calendar - thanks for swapping with us

We had about 75-100, but the neighbours said it is usually around 200. But with the monsoon rains last night, only the hearty came out. Mostly the teens too. Not as much fun as the little ones. But I did find this lot out here to know their manners and then tell me to have a good night. So it made up for it a little. They also travelled in groups so you went through a good bunch at the same time. At the very end and our last door knocker, my daughter literally dumped a bunch of stuff in his bag. As he walked away, he yelled to his friends "See I told you it was a good idea to come late". We had a good chuckle over that.

Good afternoon

Well, I logged on about 4 hours ago, and am just now getting around to saying hello! The phone rang just as I sat down to update threads and I have been in a whirlwind ever since.

I am now checking something off my bucket list. I am going to be a "den mother" to a pack of scouts for the weekend! hahahahaha (This was put on my bucket list a loooong time ago, when I was younger and not so smart. Be careful what you wish for, right? I've now experienced three very striking examples of that this week - somebody is trying to tell me something )

The boys were supposed to camp at the church where they have their meetings and go on a 20 mile hike tomorrow for their merit badge. Well...plans change.

They are camping in my back yard - in the new and improved "camp ground area"! We are deciding on the hike and where it will be when the guys get here. So I am "on duty" for the next little bit. Eek!

I have received mail, but won't open it until after the weekend is over. Normat, BonnieBeth, prairiejen, Trish Rego and libreeder@aol.com - your packages have arrived safely.

Awesome, Joyce.

Gotta love getting to check off those bucket list items. Are you gonna give the troop a ride in that pink tractor? The guys might not like that so much heehee.

Just checking in. I'm working on my calendars 'as we speak'.

Very funny - both Rita's saga (I love her sense of humor) and your 6 y/o grandson - well, darn it, what's wrong with not settling (aside from you not getting what he did not want LOL)?

No, but they will probably want to take a spin in my little blue S10 pickup. It will be handy for gathering firewood and taking it to the top of the hill. Much better than walking it there...along with all their camping gear.

Whatever happened to making men out of them boys? Taking their camping gear up the hill in a truck? You're too easy on them scoutmaster. LOL. Hope you have fun this weekend.

I said they would want to use the truck. I didn't say they would have permission...or the keys!

giggling here....(At this point, two of the scouts didn't bring dinner provisions, so this could turn out to be really interesting.)

I hear you on the hiking, Sybil. And this weekend, they would do their 20 mile hike before I could leave the driveway. My knee that never gave me trouble before is giving me all what not, and I had to get hubby to bring in my walker from the van, to use in the house. And that is not me. I only use it on mall trips, but not this weekend. MInd you it has helped me serve my meals, and bring out my laundery to the machine. Handy little devil it is. Thank goodness we live in a one level house.

And now for the rest of the story....

No, I did not have to hike. No, they didn't get in a full 20 miles, but they did do 16 miles. They hadn't been instructed to build up to this, so I think they should be applauded for the effort that they did put forth, and I hope they get full credit for the day that they did put in - we'll see how that develops.

Dinner last night was entertaining. I showed them how to use what is available turned their ramen noodles & peas into a cooking lesson. What do you do if unexpected company shows up for dinner? Ramen + 1 can diced chicken, 1/2 bag frozen corn and two containers of tomato and roasted red pepper soup = chowder for a crowd. A handy can of thwock bread from the dairy case and a plate of hot cookies rounds out the dinner and they were in charge of dinner prep and cleanup. (Mom scores big points )

Sausage biscuits & gravy for breakfast - my treat because they originally planned on being in town for breakfast. They decided to change their walking route at dinner the night before to one that would be safer, but weren't prepared for that change as far s their provisions were concerned. Since I was the one who pointed out the safer, closer route, I felt rather obligated to assist in the solution to this particular problem.

Lunch came after the first 10 miles - they were very tired and VERY happy that I had lunch ready for them to eat. (They had 1 can of soup, and 2 PB&J sandwiches between them........where are the adult leaders, I'm asking myself about now???)

So I had stuffed shells and cheese with sauce, garlic bread and brownies as an alternative. DS is polishing off the last of the leftovers, right now. I will be dealing with the turtle brownies myself later. hehehehe

Oh yeah...DS is going bed shopping tomorrow. There was a tiny accident, and he will be sleeping on the pullout sofa. His bed broke. A lot. It was purely an accident, and there was no rough housing or inappropriate behavior that caused it. It just broke when the skinniest scout sat down on it. He was mortified, and since I was in the room when it happened, I know that is was truly a case of being in the wrong place at the wrong time. It could have happened to any of them. I will be looking at a bed with metal side rails this time, not wooden slats.

This was a really fun weekend. Kinda glad I don't do it on a regular basis though. I'm not sure I could afford it regularly. VBG

Happy Mail Alert from the weekend!

BonnieBeth and normat - your packages have arrived safely.

Norma - Three great calendar months - you were inspired! I love your design for July - using the image of the two flags will remind me of my special Canadian pals when I'm celebrating my Independence. The december page is so lovely - beautiful poinsettia! March's leprechaun made me laugh with that cheeky grin, and the background paper is perfect. These are wonderful - great job!

Bonnie - I always look forward to your artwork, it's always so delightful. I like the layout on your calendar page - you make it look effortless - always getting everything laid out so perfectly. The little acorn sprite is so cute - I wonder if I have one in my autumn leaves? Great job! Thanks so much for the embossing folder. I don't have that one, so it will be a nice addition to my arsenal of embossing plates. I'm just starting to build my collection, so they are always a treat to receive - Thank you

Eleven packages to go - due in two weeks!

Happy Mail Alert!

Joan7356 - your package has arrived safely.

Sassy - These are very nicely done! The April card reminds me of how crisp and clear everything is after a sudden shower. You even made the umbrella look like it was wet - nice touch! August is beautiful - all the layering on the background - and I love the colors. Beautiful job - thanks for joining us

So glad my cards arrived safely. I wasn't at all sure how the storm was going to affect postal services. Seems like they came through just fine. I'm looking forward to seeing the end results. It will be a super calendar year.

Good morning calendar girls

It's a rainy, drizzly, gray day today here at the hacienda. A perfect excuse for a second cup of coffee, staying in my jammies till lunch, and getting a little crafty. Otherwise my mood might match the weather outside - that would not be good.
