reminding us that computers are amazing machines!
The Pentagon recently unveiled its new super computer to the top brass. This fantastic device, capable of making bazillions of decisions in split nanoseconds, is designed to solve all military problems with the greatest of ease. To test its capabilities, the brass poses a tactical problem to it and then asks for a decision, "Attack or Retreat?"
The computer hums a bit, blinks a myriad of lights and answers, "Yes."
The brass, somewhat confused by this answer, replies, "Yes what?"
I used a calendar from the internet. I can't use the images offered here because they print with those little lines around them and I can never cut them straight! There are several free sites - just google!

Works for me as long as they are close to the required size. ya'll know I'm pretty easy about that kind of thing.
It's like math problems - as long as you get the right answer, I don't care if you can show the work or not. Sure wish my math teachers had felt that way.....
I used my very old computer and printer and the three months I printed really came out well. Maybe your computer and printer are too nice.
I am still messing around looking and thinking and planning for a new one, just can't decide. Does anyone have any suggestion for a computer that can take the abuse I give it?
The one I had was a Dell and I loved it until it started acting up. I could always take it to the geek hospital and they would fix it. Wouldn't you know when it finally got bad it was just after the warranty expired. The man who tried to fix it said I just really needed more capacity or whatever. I am sure someone out there knows more about this than I do. HELP! (please)

If it's any consolation, any computer you buy today will probably have more "capacity" than what you are tossing out. I know by the time I got mine paid for and out of the store, it was already obsolete.
What sort of abuse are you giving your computer? Just because you are on it a lot, doesn't mean you are abusing it. Hitting it with a hammer out of frustration...well, that's a different matter.
No, I would never hit it or anything. But I do use it a lot and store a lot of information. designed patterns for developmental things to be used in thd NICU and all of course all the SCS goodies that I looked at and learned from. I had all my Threads of Love patterns, all my lists of names, lots of pictures, that kind of thing. It is all gone. But you know, most of it can be replaced, it is just the time it takes and effort that I would use that I could be doing something else. The computer man said that I probably needed an external hard drive and a this and a that and I don't know what all. I just left the store with the carcass under my arm and said "See ya later". I don't know if maybe he was just pushing another sale. I am going to send the carcass to Patrick, our ex-neighbor who has always taken care of it, and see if he can retreave anything and get some guidance from him. He is the one who sold us the Dell and he thought it had enough of what I needed. I just thought that some of y'all who do similar things would know more about it.

If Patrick is your go-to geek, then he knows what you have & what it would take to replace it. I'll bet he'll have some good advice for you. I'll also bet that a lot of what you have lost is stuff that you might not need again, really. I know I have a LOT of stuff on my computer that I can probably purge, but I just never take the time to do so. Usually when I think I need something I can never find it anyway, so I usually go with plan B after all the searching is done.

The Manhattan Commuter train was packed. Suddenly there was a jingle on the floor. Most necks were craned. One elderly gentleman, however, bent down and picked something up. He then asked, "Did anyone drop a half dollar?"
"I did," answered three men at once.
"Well," said the elderly gent with a smile, "here's a dime of it."

I bought an external hard drive that I put all my stuff on in case the computer crashes, plus I can move stuff from one computer to another.
I am glad you told me that. I don't have any friends here who get into much with a computer and have nobody to talk to about it. They just mostly send silly jokes on e-mail and go on Facebook. The people at the stores speak a different language, with GBs and RAMs and all that and I can't talk to them either.
I suppose if I had one of those external thingys I could learn to use it. I wish they had computers when I was young enough to get into it, but starting into it at this stage of my life it doesn't come as easy to me.
But I can take a sewing machine and make it do wonderful things and take them apart and fix them, so I know I am not uneducatable, if that is a word.

Good morning
It's a "stay home" day for me. I spent part of the morning crafting on a project and another part purging my emails. Now I need to do the same with my PM box. Ugh. But, I can do it all while still in my jammies, so I shouldn't complain too much.

They are easy to use, because I am not all that computer savy, but I was able to use it with no problem. You just plug it into the usb port, wait for your computer to recognize it and you are good to go. Then whenever you save something you save it to that instead. When you are looking for something that is on it you go to your main menu and go to computer and you will see it listed, you just click on it and it will open up and your files are all there. And if you have more than one computer you just plug it in to the other computer and you have access to all that stuff. I beleive it was under $100 at best buy.
That sounds easy enough. I still haven't decided what I want to do, but really want a new one that will be dependable. This one is the pits. Needless to say I haven't been on it as much and am getting more stuff done.

Speaking of computers I need advice.
We have two macbooks and one pc. The PC has a virus and is old and it's time to replace it anyways. What should I do? I get frustrated with Mac with downloading and editing pictures. Really that is all I use my pc for. What should I buy to replace the dead pc?
Any suggestions?
That is what I am dealing with, Jen. Just don't know what to do. The guy at Staples was telling me what I "needed" and it was just adding up and I just said "I can't deal with this." and left. We need someone who does the same things we do to advise us.

reminding us that things aren’t always as they seem!
A man decided that he was going to ride a 10-speed bike from Phoenix to Flagstaff. He got as far as Black Canyon City before the mountains just became too much and he could go no farther.
He stuck his thumb out, but after 3 hours he hadn't gotten a single person to stop. Finally a guy in a Corvette pulled over and offered him a ride. Of course, the bike wouldn't fit in the car. The owner of the Corvette found a piece of rope lying by the highway and tied it to his bumper. He tied the other end to the bike and told the man that if he got to going too fast to honk the horn on his bike and he would slow down.
Everything went fine for the first 30 miles. Suddenly, another Corvette blew past them. Not to be outdone, the Corvette pulling the bike took off after the other. A short distance down the road, the Corvettes--both going well over 120 mph--blew through a speed trap. The police officer noted the speeds from his radar gun and radioed to the other officer that he had 2 Corvettes headed his way at over 120 mph.
He then relayed, "And you're not going to believe this, but there's guy on a 10-speed bike honking to pass."
When I was a little girl, Friday was always chocolate milk day at school. BUT, as much as I love chocolate, they always had to bring one white milk for me. To this day, I can't stand chocolate milk. I like hot chocolate and all other kinds of chocolate just not milk.
But at the same age, the white milk at the bottom of my cereal bowl, I would mix with the orange or grape juice and then drink it! Now that is something I don't do!
I finished all my Decembers last night. I have nothing in mind for April and September yet. I will just hang loose till my muse kicks back in. I must do some cleaning today.
Phooey!

Good morning
Well, I baked extra potatoes yesterday...who knew that I would be using them tonight for dinner in corned beef hash? My son will be soooo happy. I'm glad you're keeping me current on all the holidays, Jeanette. It's making mealtime planning a whole lot simpler.

I did that yesterday. My lazy didn't last very long. I'm considering a hair appointment today. I'm going to get a "temporary" (as Paulette calls them). I'm way overdue for some sort of hair maintenance.
At our school they offer white and chocolate milk. I get the white for our preschoolers - the chocolate does not mix well with a lot of the lunches - and it may be because I equate chocolate with dessert too!

I have received packages from - MamaAce, parknslide, LovetheBaruu, and Mauiueno - all arrived safely.
Jamee - Five groups of fun! I like how you do bugs and butterflies. The patriotic July is a great color combo. These will be great additions to the calendars!
Paulette - Your work just delights me. I love the way you use those tiny flowers. This March card is so pretty - great job! Thank you for the hostess goodie - I'm eating it right now. Russell sends his thanks as well - he grabbed his goodie and scurried away...grinning all the way. He has developed a taste for chocolate all of a sudden - careful, you're enabling again. VBG
Kelly - May is beautiful. I love the half bee - great idea. Nice use of texture and color too. I'm glad you joined us again! Thank you for the hostess goodies - you remembered about my fondness for brads - thank you!
Marilyn - Three fun Months from you - Woohoo! Sparkly ornaments for December, a happy turkey for November and the cutest button snowman for January. He's adorable.

Sybill, First let me say I can feel your distress, your sholders are tense and you just want things back to the way they were or better.
As for computer advice, I am a Mac girl and am using the second MacBookPro since 2000. They are lovely although they aren't for everyone.
I will say that when you do get your computer back up and going, or replace it you may want to puchase and use a back up external hard drive or a few flash drives. I've attached a picture of a google search of such drives and they come in all shapes and sizes.
A year or so ago my DH, who's a computer man by profession, told me "Marilyn- you have so many pictures on your computer I can not upgrade the operating system" he handed over the flash drive, also called a thumb drive, and said put some of them on here. It's a 32 GB, (really large) and I did as I was told.
Anyhow, Patrick may or may not be able to restore your computer. Good news is . . . well. . . You may have a newer and faster computer soon.
I still recommend the flash drive idea. I use one for work items, one for photo back-up and another for files and such.
Sending prayers for a solution and remedy to this problem for you.
I think I could use a day off but alas I'm off to the church soon for the day. 300 newsletters to manually fold, tape and label today along with the Sunday bulletin. Glad I still like to play with paper when I'm home.
I'm headed over to peek at Paulette's pages, put a few final touches of my second set of clips for Joyce and then I have to get ready for work. HUGS from Wi.

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us to appreciate the men in our lives!
Heather and Marcy hadn't seen each other in awhile, so they decided to meet for lunch. The talk naturally got around to their respective love lives. Marcy confided that there really wasn't anyone special in her life. Heather, on the other hand, was beaming about the new man she had found.
"He's perfect. He's handsome, and last night when we went out to dinner, he said the four little words I've been waiting to hear a man say to me!"
"He said 'will you marry me'?" Marcy asked.
Heather replied, "No, he said 'put your money away'."
Marilyn, I appreciate all your suggestions. I am a little like Scarlett O'hara, I am going to worry about all of this later. I have bigger fish to fry right now. This laptop won't communicate to my new printer. So I am just messing around on the internet with it. It is old, but much faster the older one. The older one is 13+ years old, and while it does well with the printer it takes FOREVER to do anything. I am just trying to wait until I learn a little more and not just get the first thing that pops up. I may have more questions later when I actually go shopping for a new one.
