Poutine is french fries with cheese curds and gravy on top ... when I first heard of it, I thought it sounded revolting, but it is delicious ... it started out in Quebec somewhere and has spread across country ...

Cheese curds and gravy. Hmmmm. I guess you would have to be there. Interesting.

Hi all, was researching poutine when the reply came in and I thought YUM. Love cheese.

Today's questions.....

1. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown in your honor? Were you really surprise, or did you know about it already?
NO surprise party but this past year a coworker decked out my office and it was a hoot.
2. Have you ever been up in a hot air balloon? Would you if you could? Nope not yet. Maybe if I trusted the pilot and balloon. There's a balloon fest where I live on July 12-15th. Maybe I ought to go and see if I can have a balloon ride.
3. For my Canadian friends - What other things do we Americans do that just leaves you scratching your heads and saying "Those crazy people"...? How about I throw this back at em, what age are you when you get your drivers license? Have you ever watched the Red Green Show?

Have a fantastic one. ;

Don't you just hate it when you order Poutine and they put grated cheese on it

I suppose we don't have that anywhere around here. I would try it though, it sounds interesting.

If you aren't having poutines, then I like malt vinegar on my fries. And I detest ketchup on my eggs. Eewww.
1.I had a surprise 65th birthday party. Only one I have ever had, so it was fun. Everyone brought gifts, and guess what they all were. A full head to toe Spa experience from my family, and every other gift turned out to be bath soaps, bath beads, lotions. I made them all take note and they laughed, when I said there was a theme here, but are you telling me that I smell?
2.I have always had fantasies about going up in a balloon, but at my age now, I like my feet planted firmly on the ground, thank you very much.
3. Let's see - well my crazy US friends, yes I do live in Canada in a regular house, not an igloo. We are not always covered in snow. And this weekend we will reach 80-90 degrees. So please don't drive from Alabama in August with skis on your Volkswagon expecting to find snow. (It ain't gonna happen).
4. You can get a drivers license at 16.

Okay, I see I missed just a little! Let's see if I can catch up a few things...

HS reunion? Nope, it was planned by the "party kids", so it promised to be a huge drunken bash. Though in retrospect, that might have been fun to watch...not.

Breakfast...um, not sure...that was a long time ago...sorry.

Yes, I almost caught a mild case of mermaid stress, too. But I find if I just avoid the whole subject, the rash doesn't come back.

Hot air balloons...not yet, but definitely YES someday! I think it would be amazing!

Poutine...not on a bet. I would try the vinegar, though. Malt or white? I've never had malt vinegar so I don't know the answer to that.

What do Americans do that make Canadians go "Huh?"...probably dang near everything. Seriously, though...I read some of the Canadian news websites and frequently amazed by some of the bitter and hateful comments people make about American news stories. Do you really think we are all that bad?

Good morning

My turn....

Poutine - I've read about, but never tasted it. I've never seen it on a menu around here, but it sounds like a dish Southerners would love. we like gravy on just about anything.

I am as confused about our election system as most Canadians. I've had that opinion for years, and we aren't doing anything as a country to change it. Depressing, isn't it?

Hot air balloons - When I was younger - maybe. Now, not so much. But I do think they are really cool to see. Maybe being in the chase car is the spot for me.

Great topic, Paulette.
Poutine is the best, as long as they use real curds with good gravy hot enough to melt the curds. Mmmmm. Best if it comes from a chip wagon.
I've never entered a beauty contest...are you kidding me? Wouldn't qualify for Miss Congeniality either I've never played on a team sport and I've never taken dance lessons. I'd rather sing along loudly and off-key but with gusto!

Weekend questions....

1. Have you ever entered a beauty pageant? Did you win?

Never qualified for anything a beauty pageant would require.

2. Have you ever played on a sports team?

I tried to play basketball in high school, but no talent there either.

3. Have you ever taken dance lessons? Would you, if you could?

Himself and I took some ballroom dance classes at a recreation center when we were very young. We used to go dancing some, but haven't in a long long time. But I never took ballet or tap or anything.

Guess I don't watch the same news as you do Jane, so haven't noticed the comments you mention. But our set is tuned in to KOMO everyday for the Seattle news, plus our own and hubby also watches a channel from the Chicago area with a very interesting news team. I don't know why he is so fascinated with the weather system in that area, but there you go. LOL.
As for the weekend question:
No to a beauty pageant
Yes to sports in high school and to a bowling team when we first married.
We took line dancing at a Rec centre. Gave it up when I got dizzy in the twists and turns and couldn't finish the steps. How come the girl does all the twirling and the man just holds the rope. LOL.

Hi there....
Canadians in general love Americans so no worries as to anybody posting negative comments on political websites. We are a pretty laid back country in general not too much riles us up.
Poutine is awesome, you all have to try it. Yes it is from Quebec.
We do not use dog sleds and snow does not start at the border. We do not have 6 months of darkness and 6 months of sunshine. (Well okay up North they do)
We do seem to be as heavily involved in our political system as the U.S. eg. our Prime Minister is not a huge celebrity and if you ran into him you might not even know who he was.
I love how Americans give directions.....
"yup you just go up the road here a little bit and then you are going to hang a left"
I love how you say "huh" and Y'all.
I love how you ask me if Winnipeg (my city) is the name of a car?
You spell check wrong, it's cheque
You don't have ATM's all over the place like we do you still go to the bank for money.
You ask us if we want whole wheat bread instead of brown.
You drink ice-tea that is cold tea and not full of sugar and pop
You ask us if our coloured money is real?
Some of you have never seen a loonie or a toonie.
You say davenport.
We really do say "eh" all of us up here, but you guys say "huh"

1.) My aunt submitted my name for "Miss Blue Bomber" when I was 17 and I quickly unsubmitted my name.
2.) Yes, many, I was an athlete when I was younger.
3,) No, except for one night of ballroom dancing lessons, and no I wouldn't take dance, except I admit I"m hooked on that t.v. show "Dance moms"

1. No beauty pageant experience.
2. Bowled for years.
3. Would love to take dance lessons, I have no sense of rhythm, but DH is not the least bit interested. I do the Just Dance wii games to get my fix.

Only "beauty" contest I entered was at the vet's office: I entered my overweight cat, Kaliki, in the Fattest Cat Contest. No, he didn't win. HMMM...spellcheck says there are 3 T's in fattest---just looks weird???
No, never was on a sports team.
No to dance classes. My MIL took up hula in her 80's so maybe that's something to look forward to???

I hate it when you have a whole post response and the connection fails and I have to begin again. Poo

Weekend questions....

1. Have you ever entered a beauty pageant? Did you win?
No pagent here... nope not ever.
2. Have you ever played on a sports team?
Yep while in HS I played volleyball, as a younger adult I tried women's softball but quit.
3. Have you ever taken dance lessons? Would you, if you could?
Nope, I did square dance in elementary school physical education.
I don't think that I will take dance lessons.

Well, I was just stopping by. Have a great start to the week.

If I were ever to host a swap, I think it would be this theme. But, having no ambition to hostess, I'll present it here for Group 11:

Use a candy wrapper (in a creative way!).

Susan, Jen's like that - one line zingers and off she goes again. VBG I would like to know more about that one myself.

I've added you to group #11 - I'm guessing your partners will have to eat the candy to have the wrapper, right? The things you make them do to swap

If I had not already signed up for 3 spots I would just jump on this one to have an excuse to eat candy. Great topic!
Better stick to the ones I have, though.

Good morning

Here are today's questions.

1. Have you ever milked a cow? Or a goat? Or anything else for that matter....
2. Washing dishes - "let the machine do it" or "I'll handle the job myself"?
3. In your car, do you have anything hanging from your rear-view mirror? What is it?

1. Have you ever milked a cow? Or a goat? Or anything else for that matter....

When I was a kid I milked my aunt Evelyn's cow a few times. Never anything else.

2. Washing dishes - "let the machine do it" or "I'll handle the job myself"?

Half and half. I rinse all my dishes and put them in the dishwasher until it is full. I wash all my pots and pans by hand.

3. In your car, do you have anything hanging from your rear-view mirror? What is it?

Yes, a little air freshener that is a bunch of cherries ( to match my red Escape). I need to replace them, they don't smell any more. But it helps me recognize my car in the parking lot. There are lots of red Escapes and they all look alike.

The randomness of today's questions is delightful.

1) I grew up in the Los Angeles harbor area (in the 60's), not exactly rife with cows. In elementary school a truck was parked in the playground that contained one very patient cow. The entire school got a chance to try milking her.
2) I hate doing dishes.
3) Uh, dust?

I've added you to group #11 - I'm guessing your partners will have to eat the candy to have the wrapper, right? The things you make them do to swap
Squirrel Nut Zippers. Just think what you could do with THOSE wrappers...
