Well, made it to my parents house for the day. Just like at Parknslides house it was so HOT AND MUGGY today. I felt like I was walking around in a steamer. Temp was 95degrees and HUMID.. I stayed in almost the whole day. Hope that it cools more for next week DH and DS are headed to scout camp and DD is headed to Cichago for a mission trip. Me well.. I'm gonna stay around here.
HAPPY FOURTH OF JULY everyone. Be safe.

Good morning peeps

Lots of cracks & booms in my neighborhood last night - how about you? Unfortunately for me, we've lived here long enough that the trees are too tall for me to actually SEE any on the festive fireworks anymore. Bummer.

Here are some thought provoking questions for you to chew on today.....

What did you have for breakfast today? Was is healthy or just coffee?

High school reunions - go or stay home? If you go what was the year span of the one you attended? 10 year, 15 year.... Did you see the people you wanted to see or run into the ones you didn't want to see?

Have you ever helped build a parade float?

I'm crafting with Karen today and we have cake. You will probably hear her squeal when she finds that out - hee hee hee. Have fun today

I sat and watched a fireworks display from a church that is about 1 mile from here. It was outstanding! No crowd, no traffic. Dogs stayed under the bed, Himself just watched TV. So it wasn't a social event but they were beautiful.

Answers to Questions.
PB toast and hot tea.
Don't go to high school reunions, don't keep up with people from then; 1957 was a long time and a long way away.
Parade float? Once when my grandson was little, we helped our daughter-in-law when her neighborhood had a kiddie parade. There were little wagons and tricycles and strollers all decorated with flags and streamers and balloons, and it was adorable. I haven't thought of that in years. So cute.

I'm spitting out my coffee, building floats? Isn't that only black and white James Stewart movies? You Americans are the bests bunch of people. Do you really build floats? I just love this. The closest I came to building a float would be making a few flowers for the grad car back in 1980.
No I don' go to highschool reunions, that is also not overly popular up here. My high school had its 50th (all classes) reunion a few years back.
I had coffee for breakfast.

I lost my high school ring working on the Senior Class float. If anybody ever finds it, I sure would like to have it back.

I went to the planning meeting of my class reunion. Same people, same attitudes - I skipped the event and didn't feel bad about it.

I had cake for breakfast. But is was fruit cocktail cake, so it's rather like coffee cake. I may have another in a few minutes. It was yummy.

I love it when I can surprise my Canadian friends - it makes me giggle

I slept in...my breakfast will be some OJ and a Snickers brownie.

HS reunions---UGH! Tried 2 early on & never again.

We had homecoming floats in HS. I remember we made a huge dog on the back of a pick up truck. Sculpted the dog from chicken wire, stuffed it with toilet paper sheets and then spray painted.

I had an English muffin and raspberry jam plus coffee for brekkie. Never worked on a float...don't even know anyone who worked on a float (what Jen said). Never went to a high school reunion nor would I. Didn't stay in touch with anyone from high school and I'm pretty sure there were valid reasons for that Never had fruit cocktail cake or Snickers brownies. Did have a huge thunderstorm yesterday. Hot and humid which means I stay in.
Phew! Caught up.

I heard lots of booms last night as well, but the hills and trees in the neighborhood blocked our view, so I totally understand that one

Hmm...breakfast was a hot dog, a couple pieces of bacon wrapped steak, and some cake. lol. Absolutely unhealthy, but it was so good. The sugar gave me a good jolt to get through this morning as well.

High school reunions...This year is/was my 10th year and I didn't care to find out where/when it is/was. Ugh, high school. Knowing my luck, I'd run into all of the wrong people and see none of the right ones.

I have not ever helped build a parade float. Sounds like immense fun though!

Joyce, go ahead and put me in group 10 also. I will think up a topic in the next day or so. I am finishing my last "other swap" hopefully tonight, so can pick up a few more to do. Thanks.
And when I start doing these, I am going to start with the steampunk one. It is bugging me. Everything I see I think "Is that a steampunk thing?"

I will add you now. I'm chuckling about the steampunk phrase. I may have to use that in the future.

It fits on my list with "mermaid stress" and "earworms"...things that make me giggle.

I have updated the first post. We have one open spot in Group #5, and 4 spots in Group #11. Since we have plenty of time between now and the due date, I will fill in and as groups as needed. Anyone that wants another spot, sing out anytime! I'll add spots until the very end.

I've got it! Remember the other day when you asked what our favorite toy was when we were kids? Well there you go. That's my topic. Your favorite childhood toy.
Now I know you can't put the whole thing on an ATC but a picture or something?
How is that? You like it?

I had raisin bran, banana and a cup of tea this morning. I have never built a float. Our schools never did those things, nor did we have a band like you see in football games etc.in American schools.
I have seen some pictures of our high school reunions and believe me it would have been a waste of my time, because I knew none of these people! Besides it was on the other side of the country from here. I made a personal trip just once to visit my old high school and homestead. Didn't recognize a thing. Progress spoiled the image.
I'll keep my memories thank you.
I've put flowers on wedding cars in years past. Does that count?

I think that's a great topic. I would have to do a whole book of ATCs to cover that subject though. I had several favorite toys as a kid.

Sure - Why not? I've done that too, and some of them turned out better than the high school float.

Of course, some of them turned out worse too, but with those I was only an observer.

Hi all, so glad to be home from the heat. It's so hot. Teaching summer school today was alright lots of kiddos are gone on vacation. Working at the church was alright, I'm coping with some sad things there. God is good, all the time! All the time, God is good.

What did you have for breakfast today? Was is healthy or just coffee?
Leftover corn beef hash, two eggs and toast. Iced coffee. I knew it would be a busy day.

High school reunions - go or stay home? If you go what was the year span of the one you attended? 10 year, 15 year.... Did you see the people you wanted to see or run into the ones you didn't want to see?
Went to the 10th 1999 (was pregnant and didn't know it so felt very sick) and 20th reunion in 2009. There were 150ish people in my graduating class and I saw many friends and had some awkward memories. I had a "story" about my senior year but it seemed to be forgotton.

Have you ever helped build a parade float? Well, yep. Helped with 4H floats in my youth, marched in the band throughout my middle and high school years, then as my kids were tiny we lived in a small town and their day care had a "float" that they rode on. Parades can be fun, skipped the whole whooha this year.

Labradork, nice topics.

"Earworms" made me giggle and that's definitely something my daughter has said. When she was younger, it took us awhile (and a pretty good laugh) to realize that she was saying earworms instead of earwigs. "Mermaid stress" is pretty funny too. I need to figure out how to use it in a sentence though.

Thanks for the idea, Marilyn!

Most days I work from home, but others I have to go into different offices ... the last two days I've gone to an office that is 2 hours away ... really cuts into my net surfing time

Yesterday I had a bowl of cereal for breakfast, then stopped at Macdonalds for a coffee and muffin at the end of my drive.

As has been said Canadians really don't do regular high school reunions, my school did have it's 75th anniversary a while back and I thought about going, but really there are only 2 people from high school that I would want to see, and one is my SIL so I see her regularly, the other I would like to find ... now the building I went to is an office and the school still exists somewhere in the same town, but I don't know where ...

However when my kids were in bowling I did help decorate a float for the Santa Claus parade one year ... my DGD dances in a couple of Santa Claus parades every year but not on a float ... and I'm a bad gramma and never go, cause standing outside in the cold just never appeals to me

Good morning

Today's questions.....

1. Have you ever had a surprise party thrown in your honor? Were you really surprise, or did you know about it already?

2. Have you ever been up in a hot air balloon? Would you if you could?

3. For my Canadian friends - What other things do we Americans do that just leaves you scratching your heads and saying "Those crazy people"...?

Morning everyone!

For today's questions:

I have not ever had a surprise party thrown for me. Maybe one day!

I have not ever been in a hot air balloon, either. I would love to go up in one!! When I was a kiddie, we would always go to the Annual Dogwood Festival in town. They would have one area of the park set up for several different hot air balloons from different local sponsors and such, and we could all watch them get unpacked and eventually take off. I remember watching them in the sky until I couldn't see them anymore. Great memories!

Answers to questions.
1. Himself had a surprise party for me once. I had worked all day on that Saturday, and he had invited my dad, sister, and kids for a surprise party that afternoon as soon as I got home from work. All he had was birthday cake. We had cake and ice cream and I opened my few gifts and everyone went home. Then he said "what are you going to cook for supper?" Yes, I was surprised. And I didn't cook supper. It was a sweet thought but it was sort of messed up. I never told him it would have been better to have real food first. He meant well.
#2. No and NO!

I'm still howling over Mermaid stress. That became a small 'subculture cult" within SCS at the time. I'm still in recovery.

1. My 50th is this Saturday. I'm 7/7/62 born at 7am. 7lb 7oz There just might be a wee surprise party happening for me.

2. I tried to go in a hot air balloon but it was cancelled too windy.

3. Do you really want us to answer this???? It would be a very long list. Just off the top of my head would be, " Oh Canada you live in Canada? Do you know my Uncle Bill he lives in Toronto?"

No surprise parties.
No hot air balloons and I would never go up in one.

No surprise parties ... I don't like surprise parties, I always feel embarrassed for the recipient of the surprise for some reason ... don't know why.

Hot air balloons ... NOPE, NEVER, NO ...

Americans ... hmm ... I find it very odd that health care is as hot a topic as religion ... and some of your road signs ... I'm particularly fond of 'HIGH DUI CRASH ZONE' and my new favourite "HIGH AGGRESSIVE DRIVER CRASH ZONE" ... although to be fair I think those were both in Pennsylvania

Ah, Jen, you made me laugh! Both on the Uncle Bill one and the temperature.
I've never had a surprise party thrown for me. People know better!
Never been up in a hot air balloon but I think I would go. I was up in the Goodyear blimp a couple of times as a kid and my dad used to take me flying in a two seater Sunday mornings as a young teen. Loved it!
Can't think of anything Americans do that make me shake my head. I'll give it some thought. There are lots of things I don't get though because we (Canadians) don't do that. Things like Thanksgiving on a Thursday, Black Friday, your election system, no white vinegar for my French Fries. Mysteries.

The Uncle Bill thing reminds me of my daddy. My son used to work for Delta Airlines. My daddy was always asking Rick if he knew someone. He would name them and say "Do you know him? He works for Delta, you ort to know him." Rick would just shake his head. How many people worked for Delta?

White vinegar for French Fries?

See, that is exactly the reaction I get when I am in the US. In Canada, the server asks everyone if they'd like ketchup and vinegar for their fries or they just bring it
