Two things tonight:
Mum took Brody to the doctor, and he "thinks" he is okay. But if it begins to hurt, come back in and we will xray his arm. Like what!!? His grandma and I had a few words to say to each other in private. So hopefully Brody is fine.
And we did the deed. We put ourselves in debt again for a new vehicle. A 2013 Dodge
Grand Caravan van. We wanted a new SUV but we just couldn't find one comfortable enough for us. So we elected the van because it fit our budget and was spanking new.
We pick it up tomorrow.

Hope Brody feels better.

And congrats on the new van! I loved my caravans when I was "haulin' kids." The sedan is more practical for us now.

????? They couldn't x-ray the arm then? What's up with that?

Yay for the new wheels! What color is it?

Norma, I find that as a grandma I freak out over things that the mom and dad just let go. I am right there with you, FIX IT NOW! But doctors are very different with kids than they were when ours were little. They let them stay sick and let their bodies fight off fevers with no help and I just can't stand it. But most of the time they get OK. I wonder how my kids survived. We gave them aspirin, let them sleep on their tummies, didn't have safety seats, did all sorts of things that aren't allowed nowadays.

Congrats on the new wheels! I'm gonna drive my sedan until the wheels fall off or until I'm forced to choose between strappin' a kid to the hood or pulling one on a skateboard on the back. We've still got just one kiddo, but if I keep hoping and having dreams about twins, we may be making that decision a little sooner than anticipated

All of this "wait and see" stuff can drive mommies and daddies and grammies and papas crazy! All the while, the kiddo is bouncing off of the walls and such like nothing is wrong...such resilient little creatures. The X-ray thing for Brody is nuts, but I went through the same thing with my ankle. They wanted to wait for the swelling to go down and make sure it wasn't just a massive bruise before doing an x-ray and then months later an MRI. I don't see why they wont just do all of that first and then fix it because in the end it was three torn ligaments that required surgery. We waited for almost a year and about 4 different X-Rays (which found nothing!) before the Dr. recommended an MRI since I still couldn't flex my foot or walk up and down stairs. It all seems super backwards now, but we made it through

I remember my grandparents and great aunts advising my parents to just "let it run it's course," when I was ill. "Take a nap," was often the first recommendation, for anything ROFL! All the while my mom was pacing the floor and checking my temperature (and breathing)!

When my sister came along, she seemed to loosen up a bit and take the advice of my elders. I guess she saw I was still alive, so they must have known a lil' something. The gray hairs she sprouted during her "pacing and worrying" when I decided to try to jump off of a second story balcony into the backyard may have had something to do with her worrying less too...

I loved your messages about Brody, and I thank you for "being on my side" of things. They sure do things differently today than even 10 years ago. All to save a dime and in some cases they would have saved some, if done on the spot. Hopefully he is just fine.
As for our new van, which we would have preferred to downsize, but our pocketbook was involved and this was the solution to that high priced dilemma, is a shade of light navy metallic. Our Ford van was navy with a purple undertone to it. This one is definitely lighter in colour and will be more blue. Very pretty. We had the choice of red, black, charcoal or this one. At least we will come out of the gate with almost zero miles on it and it should be our last vehicle. We pick it up this morning. I miss our old van already. A few more dingdongs on it, so hubby is a little deflated with the new one. Life gives you a bowl of cherries - so pick out the plump ones and be happy, I say.

Thanks Paulette, I had not seen that. Joyce told me about it and had me answer questions and then I didn't think any more about it. I did see the little note over Charlie's picture. What an honor. I am amazed to be chosen.

Hi Betty Jo - Welcome aboard.

I can give you one spot in the Group, but not both. The swap isn't set up that way. We will happily show you the ropes around her and soon you'll be an old pro like the rest of the regulars. I'll add you to group #12 with the theme of shabby chic.

I went to a concert with my sister tonight, so if you have any more questions I'll answer them tomorrow when my ears have stopped ringing. VBG (We had a blast!)

Good morning

I'm off to sell popcorn with the Boyscouts today. Here are some questions to keep you occupied while I am gone.

1. What's your favorite form of exercise?

2. How has the world changed the most since you were a kid?

3. What was the most annoying thing that happened to you this week?

1. What's your favorite form of exercise?

I love to get out ane walk. I haven't been able to since my foot has had its problems, but I have been out on short walks.

2. How has the world changed the most since you were a kid?

Times were so simple when I was a kid. We had a phone, with a "Party Line", shared with 3 other families. We had a wood stove and fireplaces and an outhouse. REALLY! I lived in the "country" and it was very quiet and laid back. Now, well you know how it is now.

3. What was the most annoying thing that happened to you this week?

Just all the annoying phone calls from political stuff and wanting to lower my credit card rate, and put an alarm system on my house and all that junky stuff. Nothing big or bad happened this week. Isn't that great?

1. What's your favorite form of exercise?
Mental Exercise, LOL, like crosswords and logic puzzles. Physical exercise.... I get that from chasing around my 3-year old!

2. How has the world changed the most since you were a kid?
Technology! Who ever thought we would be able to surf the internet while driving (not that I would EVER do such a thing...)

3. What was the most annoying thing that happened to you this week?
I really can't think of anything, so I guess that's a good thing. The best thing that happened to me was my arch-nemesis of a coworker give her notice!

My favourite form of exercise:
Watching others while I sit on the sidelines and wish I could do it too. But in my younger years it was ice skating. My legs are my nemesis but I try to keep active. That's my best approach to exercise.

How has the world changed most:
Open spaces lost to suburbia, shopping malls, passenger jets, TV's in everyones homes, telephones everywhere, wringer washers, electric stoves and electronics beyond belief. And the lost of innocence in the world around us and the underlying fear that prevails in all of us. Sad.

The most annoying thing:
Nothing annoying personally.

1. What's your favorite form of exercise? Jumping to conclusions.

2. How has the world changed the most since you were a kid? The world is a lot more dangerous now.

3. What was the most annoying thing that happened to you this week? My attempts to contain a mealy bug attack on my gardenia failed and I had to dispose of my beloved gardenia.

Oh that's terrible about your gardenia. But did you just cut it down or dig it up?

We have a huge one that we cut back to the ground every couple of years and it comes back healthy and beautiful every time. It blooms about 3 times a year and it smells soooooooooo good.

Good morning

I'm off to sell popcorn with the Boyscouts today. Here are some questions to keep you occupied while I am gone.

1. What's your favorite form of exercise? Ice Skating and snowshoeing in winter, walking and swimming in summer but QueenofInkland your answer was FUNNY!

2. How has the world changed the most since you were a kid? Telephones don't have partylines and many homes are without land phonelines.

3. What was the most annoying thing that happened to you this week?
Bought a bottle of coffee creamer to use at my job when I got it there and opened it I realized it was spoiled because there was a small crack in the bottle.

Thanks for your condolences, Sybil.

How awesome that where you live you can grow gardenias outdoors and right in the ground - it must be heavenly in your yard!

Unfortunately it's too cold here to winter over outdoors, so I grow - grew ::sob:: - it in a container that I bring into the house for the winter. As for its disposal, I cut it up - ::sobbing louder:: - into pieces and it will be picked up with other lawn debris (wahhhhhhh) tomorrow.

I adore gardenias, so I will give it a go again next year as soon they become available for purchase.

Glad you got a smile.

In one of our recent swaps (I think it was PAT23) a theme I had was "this SHOULD be an olympic event" and I really tried to use 'jumping to conclusions' but I just couldn't figure out how to portray that on the ATC artwork so I finally had to abandon the idea.

1.Well dance is my favourite form or exercise, but my knees don't work that well anymore, and DH seems to have lost interest.
2.Political correctness ... seems to have replaced common sense

Gardenias grow in the yard. Azaleas and all sorts of things. We have Hibiscus in the yard. They stop blooming in the fall, and die down in the winter, and come back twice as many as they were the year before. I am attaching a picture of our Texas Star Hibiscus. It has almost stopped blooming, but it starts about July and blooms itsself to death, growing out and up past the eaves of our house. I don't think they are supposed to do that but it doesn't know it. I am going to separate it into smaller plants this spring. The blooms are as large as a salad plate. Beautiful. They don't smell as nice as the gardenias though.
I am not into yard work or gardening. The only thing I have is the stuff that comes back like weeds.

We have a natural green belt at the back of our house. It is pretty in summer when it thickens up, but the morning glory, or "weewee pots" as my mother called them as a child, take over as ground cover, tree cover, fence cover. Whatever. But to climb the hill out back and desimate them is an impossible task. But the valuable bushes, trees, plants that the former owner has planted are gorgeous. We fight to keep the weeds out of the garden.

I have always loved morning glories. I planted some seeds by a fence at our old house, and they took it over. Himself was furious, as was the neighbor next door with the fence between us. But they are so pretty. I love the wild looking vines and "weeds" like Queen Anne's Lace" and like that. I would live in a wildereness if I could. But Himself is the yard person and HE WANTS IT NEAT AND CLEAN AND NO UNNECESSARY PLANTS!
SO I leave the yard to him. His sister gave me the Texas Star and he is complaining that he can't get next to the fence with the lawn mower. He says it has to be moved, but he won't say where to. If it is up to him he will say "to someone else's yard."

I like them too, but they are so invasive, and all the neighbours have them in that greenbelt, so why fight it. We can't put anything down for them, because it could affect the trees. Except for the lady next door who spends her entire time outside.
I don't have the legs to stand on a hillside and pull weeds.

Oh, your hibiscus is beautiful, Sybil !! I have a hibiscus that I brought into the house for the winter with the gardenia, but I have since read that hibiscus are winter hardy where I live so, next spring, I think I'll plant the hibiscus outside in the yard and see what happens.

And as for men and flower gardening, well all I can say is LOL What I used to have to listen to is "why are you growing those flowers, you can't eat them???" 'Course, some flowers 'they say' you can eat (not that I'd eat pansies or dandelions or anything such thing haha).......

Norma, I have checked out your blog - very nice, btw! On one post you were talking about peaceful surroundings and there was a pond or a stream and I think you said it was on your property - it is beautiful there - is that the greenbelt to which you are referring?

Talking Questions of the day....

1. What is your favorite snack food? Just one? lol. Probably keebler club crackers. With almost anything, hummus, dip, cream cheese and deli turkey, nutella. But its gotta be the club crackers.

2. If you were to write a book, what would it be about? A sci-fi actiony adventure in which the good guys save the world from monsterous bad guys and the girl gets the guy at the end.

3. What movie would you like to have been in? Actually-it would be a tv series. Dr Who! When David Tennant was the Dr of course. *swoon*
