Jen are they skating? Oh I miss those days of my youth. I lived on skates in Montreal during the winter. Speaking of which, we had a snowfall but the roads were clear fast. And then we had an appointment to drive to and we were shocked at the condition when we got there. Unplowed roads, dangerous conditions. It rained last night and we are back to totally green again out here. Remember the missing birthday present. Well, we are going out to buy boots for the anticipation of more snow at some point. Vancouver is the craziest weather system in the winter. Green, white, green. Sometimes always green.

It is raining here. I am not going to take a picture of the rain. It isn't gorgeous.
But it is keeping me inside so I can get things done.
We're getting there.

Blizzard in the MadCity---13.5" of white stuff, thunder snow & more on the way, up to 8" more tonight. Schools, malls, activities canceled, power is out in parts of the city. Here's views from my deck and my front yard.

That is beautiful, Paulette. I have never been in that much snow. I hope you are in and warm and have everything you need.
If they say the word "SNOW" on tv here, all the stores get emptied out of milk, bread, cocoa and popcorn. I suppose if you have those things you could survive a while.

It is teaming outdoors and it doesn't make you want to leave the comfort of home. And I have the sudden craving for some hot chocolate. I think I have a candy cane to stir it with too. Ummmmm.

We finally have sunshine today, but it is about 50 degrees. Nice but windy. I don't want to be out in it for any length of time.

Sunny and 50 degrees! Why that's balmy, Miss Sybil. Its 36 and overcast here, but very nice. (it's not raining). Any day without rain in the winter is a good day.

Still snowbound---the little bobcat was busy shoveling us out & before he got to my garage, he just suddenly left. TV is advising us to stay off the roads---lots of drifting. Welcome to winter.

You have lots of snow where you are Paulette. I have clear skies and sunshine.

MY packages are all wrapped - Yay! Now to give DS a lesson on gift wrapping - that should be fun.

Driving back home after our day out, we were bedazzled by the gorgeous view surrounding us. The sun had come out, it was crystal clear and the mountains put on such a stupendous showing. Fresh snow cascaded down the slopes. It was like paradise and it took your breath away. Still no snow on the lower slopes yet. Hubby found his new boots today, but we will have to go out tomorrow again to find some for me. Charlee got an early Christmas present from us, a new cozy bed. Her tail wouldn't stop wagging and I got a sloppy kiss right up my face. I guess she liked it.

Good morning

It's quiet around my house this morning. DH has gone shopping by himself. That's kinda scary. Keep your fingers crossed for me.

I'm heading into the kitchen to get started on the holiday prep work. We are having family dinner tomorrow and I want to have the messy stuff out of the way.

I got all my gift-goodies finished last night around 10:30. I will make up pretty plates of cookies and candy to give to our neighbors. I have sent Himself to the vet's office with some, and when I get dressed I will take some to the groomer and the neighbor's homes. I feel like a blob this morning, had to taste all of it, cookies, white fudge with cranberries, frosted pecans, all that sugar............didn't sleep well. I will try to abstain from anything with carbs in it today and see if I can get myself back to normal.

White fudge with cranberries. It sounds delicious Sybil. What a treat to find a neighbour like you at your front door, bearing goodies. Too bad we are so far away. You could ring my doorbell anytime. LOL.

I would love to bring you some fudge, Norma. We would be good buddies if we lived near each other.
Since I can't be there, here is the recipe. You can drool if you want to.

Cranberry Fudge

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
4 cups sifted powdered sugar (1 pound box)
1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
12 ounces vanilla flavored candy coating, melted
(or white chocolate, I use Kroger brand)
1 cup chopped pecans
1 package dried cranberries (I use Craisins )

Melt candy coating over very low heat until melted. I use a double boiler.
Beat cream cheese at medium speed with an electric mixer until smooth. Gradually add powdered sugar and vanilla, beating well. Stir in melted candy coating, nuts and cranberries.
Spread into a buttered 8 or 9 inch square pan. Refrigerate until firm. Cut into squares.
* I put waxed paper on a cookie sheet and spread the candy out to a thickness of about 3/4 inch, then cut into tiny pieces about 1 inch square.

Ooooo this sounds decadent. Thank you for the recipe. I am not a cook but even this recipe is simple enough for me to try. Since we have so many treats already for Christmas Day, I think I will try making it for New Years. Thank you Sybil. Oh and by the way, I did find some collard greens at a local store, but they looked a little peaked so I didn't buy them. It was at Walmart of all places in their groceries.

Good things come to those who wait. Jen, I found my birthday gift. A lovely little scrapbooking store was selling off some scrapbooking plastic shelves. They attach to a peg board backing. I got a box of 15 of them for $20. Another storage idea for my cardstock or paper. Just need DH to attach a piece of peg board to my wall.

Just be sure you don't buy the really good white chocolate. It doesn't work. Candy coating is less expensive and will make the fudge the right consistency.

We find really good collards here at WalMart. You might find them already chopped in bags. I don't know if they make frozen ones or not.

I'll keep an eye out for the collards as well. Maybe give those a try for New Years dinner.

I hope you will like it. They were selling something like that at an "Open House On The Square" in McDonough GA a while back. It was very expensive. So I came home and combined a couple of recipes and came up with this. It is pretty for Christmas.

Sang in a Christmas cantata this morning at church. Will work tomorrow to get the rest of 2012 Church things done and then vacation time for a few days. I may be making a new set of shelves to display/store some of my recently received wood mount stamps. A friend gave me with a whole supply of them, she's now focusing on painting. What a thrill.....

Merry Christmas Joyce and everyone, I am sure to stop by an say hello again soon.

I just put out my poor little "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. It only had one ornament on it. And I BROKE it. It really looks sad now.

Sybil, think quick. Cut out some pretty flowers with your dies with some Christmas paper and hang them like ornaments on the tree. Sparkle them, add brads. It's out of the box and truly yours.

I think I have some red balls in the decorations somewhere. The Charlie Brown tree has to have a red ball. Just one. I will worry about that tomorrow.
All my wrapping and stocking stuffing and baking is done. It is beginning to look a little like Christmas.
Tomorrow I clean, and then cooking breakfast Christmas morning. AND I WILL BE DONE!

Our #1 grandson recently moved out on his own. We got him adult stuff this year. Polo and socks and underwear and a blanket and groceries. Sad. The youngest is 14, and he has outgrown toys too. It used to be on Christmas morning they all wanted to see the TREE and the PRESENTS and the FUN STUFF!
Now when they get here they just want to eat first. Sad.
Little kids just put the magic and hilarity in Christmas, don't they?

You are right. Charlie Brown has to have one red ball. I try to change up my tree each year. It is tiny so it doesn't take much. One effect I like with the lights is a poinsettia tree. I have red and white silk poinsettias and I stuff them in the vacant spots all over the tree. It looked so pretty. Another year I had a gold butterfly tree. Another year were all handcrafted ornaments with bead garland. And so on. Next year I hope to do a crystal tree. But let's get through this one first.
And yes our grd-dtrs are getting to an age where they will soon be outgrowing the excitement level. But there is still a little bit left in them, so we enjoy while we can.

The Grinch is trying to steal our Christmas...my son-in-law was hospitalized yesterday for an out of control asthma attack. This evening he was discharged after receiving IV steroids & nebulizer treatments but his flu swab was POSITIVE. The whole family has to take Tamiflu. I baked cookies and decorated today and the gifts are wrapped & the groceries are bought and the menu planned. They need to travel 2 1/2 hrs. to get to my house---things are on hold until they check in tomorrow. I had my flu shot last week. And I too have teen grandkids---takes a lot of the fun out of present time.

Ooooh, bummer, Paulette. The FLU would be one gift nobody needs to receive. Christmas is a bad time to be sick. I hope your son-in-law is well soon and it doesn't go through the family.

Default Christmas in the Cariboo

I'm waiting for my sister to come down for Christmas. Meanwhile today she and DH went for a ride in the back country of the Cariboo, where they live.
She said it was the most gorgeous afternoon. I like the snow when it is somewhere else but here. Still green on these hills.

Hope you all are having a great Christmas. Our family came for breakfast. Himself cooked ham, bacon, sausage, eggs, biscuits, and of course a BIG pot of grits. We opened our gifts, played around with them for a while, the boys (who have hollow legs, I just know they do) went back to the kitchen and ate more, and then they all left.
Charlie had the best time. He fell in love with my oldest son for some reason, wanted to sit in his lap the whole time. Maybe he has a memory of some very tall, very big man with a soft, kind voice. He loved everyone else, but I think he would have gone home with Rick.
It has been a wonderful day for us.
I hope all of you are well and as blessed as I am.

We had our main Christmas celebration Sunday. It was the best Christmas we've had in a long time. I think we might make that a new tradition - celebrating on a day when nobody else does. It took so much of the pressure off and we just had fun with it.

I picked up an impulse gift for my son - a tabletop ping-pong set. Little paddles, a net you can secure to the kitchen table and a ball. We had sooo much fun with it - especially my Dad! I'm looking at getting a couple of regular paddles and a few more balls to keep handy. It was great cardio exercise for him and he was like a kid again. My kitchen table is about the size of a ping pong table so it worked really well for us. We have a new wintertime activity - yay!

Now it's time for a warm beverage and a nap

Many years ago I made all our kids a big stocking with their names on it to keep at our house. They are about 18 inches long and hold a lot. We fill them will silly things and good stuff and candy, and each one has a tradition involved. I laughed this morning, when Daughter-in-law asked for A-1 Sauce to go on her eggs, and I didn't have any in the fridge. She said I know you have some and it is too early for the stockings but ..........
So I went and got their stockings and she rummaged in it till she found the stuff.
Drew gets "green hot sauce", Rick gets sunflower seeds, Britt gets Catsup and Ken gets lots of CHOCOLATE WITH NO NUTS PLEASE. Just has been that way ever since they were kids.
When they were getting ready to leave, Rick said "where are our WalMart plastic bags?" I went and got them. Himself asked him if he wanted to take a gift bag, and he said "No. This is for the stocking stuffers." (They always have to leave them here to be refilled.)
Himself said "You can use this gift bag......." and Rick said "NO, Dad. A PLASTIC BAG. This is tradition". They have their own Beautiful hand sewn and cross stitched stockings to use at home. Each one is decorated with different decorations and their name stitched in. That is the way Stef told me she was expecting Drew, she said "Nanny, we need a new stocking for the fireplace this year." Such sweet memories........

When Russell was small, we took him to the Ky Horse Park for the Southern Lights Display. The have lots of lights you can drive thru to enjoy and then you park & come inside for the model railroad display and craft vendors, ect. We would go every year and always ate before hand at a local Chinese place near the horse park. He loved it.

Well, one year we didn't go - bad weather or something. Didn't go the next year either. He never said anything, and we adults thought he had outgrown it. This year, he asks, "Why don't we go see the lights and eat Chinese anymore?" We explained that we thought he wasn't interested in seeing them since he hadn't said anything about it for so long. To which he replied, "It's tradition. You don't have to ask about the tradiotions, you just do them."

Well, yeah. What were we thinking?

I bet next year we eat Chinese and see some Christmas lights. It's tradition, don't ya know!
