No deep fryer here, just a nice deep skillet. Most people don't make fried chicken at home any more because it takes practice to become good at it. Those delicious crunchy bits are an art form around here. It's a southern thing

I understand about the turkey gravy. I take all the chunky underparts out before making gravy too.

If you buy fried chicken in a restaurant they deep fry it. Skin left on, thick batter, and deep fry. When I make fried chicken, I use skinless chicken, coat with flour with salt and pepper, and panfry in very little oil. Then I leave those little brown bits in the little bit of oil, add flour and then make the gravy from there. Some of the chicken you buy here is more batter and grease than chicken. YUCK! But here everything gets battered and deep fried. Fiish, especially catfish, green tomatoes, cauliflower, and sliced dill pickles! Yep, battered deep fried dill pickles. Gives me heartburn just to think about it.

My family and a lot of other people here make giblet gravy with chicken or turkey. They cook the undesirable parts, like the liver, the heart, the gizzard and the neck, chop them up and add chopped boiled eggs and put them in the gravy. I just can't eat that. It looks like barf. I have even seen it in restaurants. ICK!

Euwww....Chopped eggs in the gravy. That's just wrong. That's why I'm the cook around here - I know I'll eat everyting I put in my own cooking. No surprises here

Chopped eggs along with all that other stuff. Paula Deen even has a recipe for it. I guess it is a country poor people thing, don't want to waste anything sort of cooking. It is wasted on me though.
Sort of like pouring coffee in fatback grease and calling it "red eye gravy".

Wow.... I'm guffawed. The most excitement we get up here is adding a packaged of Knorr mix to our gravy.

Congratulations to the new Eagle. Please come back and share all the good details next week after the festivities are over. DS here is working on his badges right now, but he still has a long way to go. He does seem to like the camping thing though - He got a prize at the meeting this week for being "most enthusiastic" about camping in the snow (A low of 20 degrees, and he's enthusiastic??? Who knew?!)

Hi all,
My Aunt Sybil has been intriguing me with her inchies and twinchies for quite some time now. Well, I can't resist any longer. So I'm asking to join your group, but only work on 3 of the inchies, to get my feet wet as they say. In honor of my dear OLD auntie (ha/ha), I have decided not to pursue the more risque version of "animal magnetism". . .

OLD?????????
Well, actually you are right.
Welcome aboard, Sweetums.
But keep your seat belt fastened at all times. The party gets rowdy sometimes.
Seriously, these ladies are the best. I know you will do a great job on the inchies, but you will enjoy the chatting even more than that.
Go ahead and do the animal magnetism ones. I dare you.

Misty, if that isn't animal magnetism at work with that avatar of yours, I don't know anything about magnets at all.

That is an A-dor-a-ble hound dog you have there. I am magnetically drawn to it.

(Still wanting a new puppy here....and Sybil isn't old. VBG)

Welcome Misty, you have a wonderful aunt!!! These ladies are a blast, so like Joyce said, fasten up that seatbelt, plug your ears and shield your eyes......
Okay that's a bit dramatic..... I just get worked when my gravy gets critiqued.

Aawwww that's sweet. But you are right, there are so many fantastic helpful ladies here. Misty won't need much help, just in the area of packaging and postage and stuff. She is incredibly artistic and has taught me so much. She is the one who got me interested in cardmaking, and introduced me to SCS. I am so glad she has decided to play with us. You will be amazed at what that girl can do.

Good afternoon

It's been quiet around here today. Is everyone out running errands like I have been today?

If you were out shopping today, what did you buy? That's the question for today!

I bought a lovely sirloin tip roast that I'm cooking this weekend. And lunchbox foods for DS.

Went yard saling. Didn't find much. I did get a very old book that is all falling apart that is Hamlet by Shakespeare. It is in really bad shape which should be fun to make stuff from. The pages are OK, falling out of the book. Needs to have a new life, right?

Hey Misty, welcome to Swap Heaven! I hope your wonderful Aunt shows you how to create a gallery here so we can all enjoy your works of art (hint, hint, Sybil)

Hi, Joyce. I've missed being on SCS because of the usual schedule nonsense, but now I want to sign up. I'd like each group except zentangles (haven't tried them yet), and I already know some hankies that are going into the making of In Grandma's Purse. Now I have to go back and read thru the many posts on this thread to be sure I don't miss any belly laughs! Kathy

I've never done zentangles either, but decided there's a first time for everything. So I signed up just to make myself learn something new.

I read your post and it made me laugh. I will add you to each group and after you read the hint about zentangles, if you want to join that one I'll add you there too. hee hee hee

I love the idea of hankies in grandma's purse. Of course, I'm technically a grandma, and I think about some of the things I have found in my purse.....hairy breathmints, any one? Or perhaps the smashed chocolate candy bar....
