I'm still laughin'.

I couldn't have paid cash money for a better start for the swap than this. And we say that all the time...."Well, bless her heart"....or occasionally, "Bless his little pointed head"... That one is usually used when DS is being especially clueless. Since he is now fully a teenager, I can say it almost once a day now. Since he is now taller than me, and heftier, I usually say it from across the room.

Most interesting topics---I cannot resist---I'll take a spot in every category. I must warn you however that my mind went to some naughty places when I saw a couple of those titles. As you all know, if my mind wasn't always in the gutter---it would be homeless. So glad to have our esteemed hostess back---we've missed 'ya.

Something about "junk in drawers" brought up the subject of the Anthony Weiner debacle---but I'll be good---I promise I won't go there.

Well, for some reason, my yesterday's post didn't show up. I must be out of practice hitting that post quick reply button. Hmmm.
Anyway, please let me play too. I would love a spot in Grandma's purse, zentangles, sewing box, and tabloid headlines.
Great to have you back, Joyce.

Just as a G-rated side note... I did find something about mesmerism and some sort of faith healing thing.

Here's a direct quote from Wikipedia:

"As postulated by Franz Mesmer in the 18th century, [animal magnetism] referred to a supposed magnetic fluid or ethereal medium believed to reside in the bodies of animate beings (i.e., those who breathe). ... The theory became the basis of treatment in Europe and the United States that sometimes depended on "laying on of hands," and was popular into the nineteenth century.

Which really only opens up a whole new can of worms, right???

Joyce is good at opening cans of worms. I see there is "Nice, friendly ones" added to our animal topic. What's the matter Joyce? Did we scare you?

Jane, that is an interesting definition of the animal magnetism thing. I didn't read that far, just saw the first couple about ...... you know..... and that was it.

Is that why I am unable to resist putting my hands on kittens & puppies when I see them? They are magnetic! Who knew?

Yes, that's Lucy on the left. She is our newest addition and so sweet I should have named her Sugar. Being an American Staffordshire mix she is a bit big for a lap dog but don't tell her! She loves to try hard to fit in my lap and snuggle while we watch TV. I just love her to pieces!

Since y'all are talking about dogs and snuggling, I am having a very hard day today. I am still missing my Flossie, and my Rosie is now almost 14 and not feeling the best in the world. Our vet says she has arthritis, can't see well, can't hear well, and has those fatty tumors all around. She is not a snuggler, actually runs from me every time I go to pet her. I would love to comfort her and snuggle her but she is so distant. I thought after Flossie was gone Rosie would warm up to me but she hasn't. She only comes to me when food is involved. She has always been this way. I know her days are probably numbered, but am doing everything I can to give her meds and keep her comfortable. I give her special treats and she wags her tail at me. Then the stinker just snoots me and goes and gets in her bed and there it is.
This morning Himself brought me some pictures of dogs that were up for adoption, knowing I missed the snuggling so much, and I just started crying. Again. I don't know if I should get another one, if it will make Rosie better or worse.
My vet said as long as I felt this way that I should not go looking for one, but he would be on the lookout and if he found a very special one that would love me he would call me.
Anyone have any suggestions?

Get a new doggie. It won't take the place of Flossie, but I'll bet it will make you feel better. A new baby doggie can't make you feel worse. It will help you honor Flossie's memory - you can tell the new pup all about her, and then the new pup will give you doggy smooches for being such a good human. Flossie would be very happy to know you are happy too.

And give Himself a hug for me. He's paying attention to your feelings. Good job!

Joyce, that was so sweet. Himself says it is up to me. I think he would be fine if we had 10 dogs. I just am so dad gummed practical. I said "How will it affect Rosie?" and he said "she wouldn't care, she is just the same no matter what". I said "It is so expensive with the food and upkeep" and he said "What else do we have to do with our money?" and I said "I am so old, what if a new dog outlives me? Who will take care of it?" and he said "You won't have to worry about that."
I think he is really encouraging me to get another one. I really don't feel that it would be disloyal to Flossie, but she was the best and it will be hard not to compare. I am going to wait and see if one just "appears". Sometimes that happens.
Thanks for your words of wisdom.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe HE wants another doggie around the house? Perhaps he has an ulterior motive for shoing you the doggie pics......Did he seem to favor one in particular?

Can you tell I have been thinking about a new doggie for around here? I saw a sign for dauxx(weiner dogs) puppies last week, and it's still up this week. If they are still available next week, I may give in. I understand about being practical. Sigh.

Oh ya the wiener dog rocks. Kind of yappy though. That is my youngest son's next dog. We have a Jack Russell Terrier (rescued) and he is simply the sweetest, smartest dog ever. We have a yellow lab Henry who is 11. Both just great animals. I'm a firm believer in 2 dogs. They love each other, they are company for each other etc. When one of our dogs finally goes we will get a daschund and a basset hound.

Himself has a miniature Dachshund, and she is incredible. She barks when someone is around or if she sees a dreaded chipmunk on the porch, but is not a yapper. She is less vocal than she used to be. She is very smart, and funny. The thing is that she is HIS dog. She only comes to me when she is hungry or sick. She lets me love her JUST A LITTLE and then she is in his lap from dawn to dawn. She sleeps under the covers with him at night, sits in the chair with him when he watches TV, adores him. And he does her. When she is feeling bad, she wants the mom. I think he just wants me to have another one to help me get over the loss of my Flossie. She was like that with me, just with me every step I took, always wanted me to hold her, read my thoughts. He saw a dachshund/chihuahua mixed puppy on the internet for adoption, and I have thought about that. I loved my Shih Tzu, the only thing was all that hair. It was beautiful, but took lots of care. It's funny, I still smell Flossie's scent and dream about her with that soft hair. I don't think I want to deal with that again though. Rosie is a Shih Tzu also, and I keep her hair cut short. She is a cutie. But we say if she had been a human she would have been one of those beautiful, ditzy blondes people make jokes about. She just doesn't get it.
Joyce, everybody I know who has a doxie is just crazy about them. Go for it.

I have to agree about having 2 dogs. With 2, you have "dogs" instead of one special friend, but it's so much better for them. Our schnauzer still hasn't recovered from the loss of our big dog last winter. Neither have I, to be honest, but we aren't in a situation where we can get another dog right now.

Sybil, I have to say that in my experience, you will know when the time is right. Sometimes (and for some people), it's best to hurry out and get another pet right away. Other times it's better to wait. Either way, you will know the right time for you.

And no, it will never be the same as it was with Flossie...we only get a very few chances at that kind of bond with an animal in our lives, and they should be treasured, but that doesn't mean you should pass up the opportunity to have a different special bond with a different animal.

On another note, there are some days I wouldn't mind re-homing our electric-cord-eating, dog-whipping, bad-tempered demon cat....

Thanks Jane, You are so sweet. I lost a dog about 20 years ago who was a sweetheart, and I was close to him too, but I didn't grieve like I have or as long as I have over Flossie. I guess it is because I am older, I don't know. But she was so special. She even loved the vet and the groomer. She would put her feet on the groomer's shoulder when she was combing her and give her kisses.

My suggestion then would be to do 5 of one design & 5 of another as long as they were related to the same theme.

Good morning

Isn't that Paulette just brilliant? She solved that pesky 8+1 problem for Nichole in 25 words or less.

What shall we talk about today? Anyone have any suggestions?

That Paulette is always brilliant and helpful.
Maybe we could just talk about handy dandy helpful hints, things that help us do inchies for the ones who are new at it.
Like the things that we really NEED to do, like making them good and sturdy and using really good glue to hold things together. For those who have swapped a lot, we know how disappointing it is to find a little baggie of treasured artwork and find lots of little pieces floating around the bottom of the bag with no idea where they go.
Could that be a topic?

Sounds like a topic to me.

My advice....Get a 1 inch punch. Number one on my list. I tried it without, and that made inchie making a real pain. Not to mention using the finished Inchies for anything. I have mine glued down in a grid pattern on a canvas. While putting them in place, the ones that were too big, too small or crooked didn't make the final placement.

The punch really makes a big difference. You can cut bases and backs that are all nicely uniform while watching TV - you don't even have to think about it.

I love my one inch punch, it is a must. I find I use mat board for the backing and that is too heavy so I have to cut that by hand. Then I scope around with my one inch punch to put the layers on the top.
Best thing I have is my crystal effects, it is shiny and is a great glue. Also love my pink crop o dile, for all of my dangly bits and my eyelets.
