Talking **POSTAL & CLOSED** STEAMPUNK SWAP - ATCs - 9+1 - DUE - 1/15/11

This is gonna be fun!!!

The Victorian era was never like this! I like to think of this genre as kind of an altered historical era. If we can alter physical stuff, why not alter history, or at least artistic representations of history? This is an art style that is very popular right now, and lots of fun to create. If you are unfamiliar with the style or just want more information, here are a few websites to check out:

Steampunk - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Steampunk Workshop | Technology & Romance - Fashion, Style, & Science
The Steampunk Home

OR you can just put “steampunk” into your search box and peruse the sites that pop up. I can spend hours just checking out the various sites!

DETAILS

DEADLINE TO JOIN: 12/15/10
Quantity: 9+1
Vendor products: NVR - anything you like that sticks to cardstock.
Recipe: MINIMUM of 2 layers sturdy cardstock or lightweight cardboard. Please include your real name, SCS Name, Swap Name, any other info you wish to add, on the back of the cards.
Due date: January 15, 2011 - These must be in my hands on this date. Cards that are late will be returned.

Mailing instructions: Place your swap items in a baggie so they are waterproof. Write your real name, SCS name and swap name on a piece of paper and include in the baggie for identification purposes or put a sticker with this info on outside of baggie.
Place baggie inside a self-addressed stamped envelope for return mail purposes. The amount of postage on your SASE should be the same amount that it takes to mail to the swap hostess. If you prefer, you may include return postage in the same amount as it costs to send to me. Any additional postage not used will be returned if not used. When your cards are ready, please send to me:

TGIF!! Did anybody see the Castle episode this week? The steampunk stuff was awesome and their description of the subculture/genre was very good.

Let's all have fun this weekend, no matter what you do!

I am so dorky... LOL. I got in my new Graphic 45 Steampunk Debutante paper and 7 Gypsies Steampunk stamps last week from Scrapbooking Supplies, Ideas and Education - Two Peas in a Bucket. It was so exciting that I finished these ATCs Don't you just love new paper and stamps? This was a super fun project.

Since I am so excited here is a sneek peek...

Kathy, your card is wonderful! i love the 7Gypsies stamp on the face - seems very steampunk to me. I'm still trying to get this genre straight in my mind; I just know I love it when I see it. I'm going to use my last initial when I sign so we don't get confused (I'm a China mom, too, but not a new one). Kathy F.

Wow! What a gorgeous card! I can't wait for them to arrive to see in "person."
Thanks for the 'how I did it' in your gallery post, too. Very helpful.

Hi, ladies. A note on shopping for steampunk stuff:
Archivers carries Graphics 45 stuff, 7 Gypsies and another brand I never heard of but seems to go along the Tim Holtz line of stuff. I know not everyone lives near an Archivers. However, if you put "steampunk art supplies" into your search box, you will get lots of useful hits and suppliers.
I gotta say, the more I learn about this style the more I like it! It really allows the goofball inside to peek out.

Ok, I'm in! I made a prototype a couple mornings ago (bounded out of bed after waking up and laying there thinking about it). My challenge to myself was to use as many stamps/supplies as I already have on hand. It certainly was enough to fill my ATC space.

This is such a cool genre! The first thing I thought about when doing some of the reading/research was the Jim Carrey movie, A Series of Unfortunate Events.

We have an Archivers here and they had a very few things but not exactly what I was looking for so I ordered them online. Now I just have to wait for the goodies to come in!
