Good Morning Friends!

Have a Terrific Tuesday!

... ... ... ...

Today is Guardian Angels Day
International Day of Non-Violence,

National Custodial Workers Day,
World Farm Animals Day,
Techie’s Day,
and Fried Scallops Day.

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us that things aren’t always as they seem!

Unaware that Indianapolis is on Eastern Standard Time and Chicago on Central Standard Time, Bob inquired at the Indianapolis airport about a plane to Chicago. "The next flight leaves at 1:00 p.m.," a ticket agent said, "and arrives in Chicago at 1:01 p.m."

"Would you repeat that, please?" Bob asked.

The agent did so and then inquired, "Do you want a reservation?"

"No," said Bob, "But I think I'll hang around and watch that thing take off."

Once there was a millionaire who collected live alligators. He kept them in the pool in back of his mansion. The millionaire also had a beautiful single daughter.

One day the millionaire decides to throw a huge party, and during the party he announces: "My dear guests, I have a proposition to every man here. I will give one million dollars or my daughter to the man that can swim across this pool full of alligators and emerge unharmed!"

As soon as he finished his last word there was the sound of a large SPLASH! One guy was in the pool, swimming as fast as he could, and the crowd was cheering him on. Finally he made it to the other side unharmed.

The millionaire was impressed. He said "My boy that was incredible! Fantastic! I didn't think it could be done! Well I must keep my end of the bargain, so which do you want: my daughter or the one million dollars?

The guy says "Listen I don't want your money! And I don't want your daughter! I just want the goober who pushed me into that pool!

A little boy forgot his lines in a Sunday School presentation. His mother, sitting in the front row to prompt him, gestured and formed the words silently with her lips, but it didn't help. Her son's memory was blank.

Finally she leaned forward and whispered the cue, "I am the light of the world."

The child beamed and with great feeling and a loud, clear voice said, "My mother is the light of the world."

FYI - My two guys and I are going on a little trip.... so you won't see me here for a few days (the next Public Service Announcement will most likely be next Monday). I will miss you!

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my Canadian swapping cohorts. Enjoy the long weekend and the turkey dinners.
I think we may go out for dinner this year and seeing as we are still in the sunshine state of mind, plan a few road trips too. And if I stay indoors, I will work on my calendars. Time is creeping along here. Actually more like a gallop. Got to get the cobwebs out of my brain.

Happy Thanksgiving to the Canadians from me too.
We usually go out or just Himself and I stay home or go to his sister's.
The kids all go to the "Inlaws" homes for dinner, so that works for us. Sometimes we have a meal all together and just call it Thanksgiving.

It's just been confirmed, we are going out. The "kids" are going to the inlaws, so we can suit ourselves. The only holiday we spend together as a positive, is Christmas Day.
DD decided that the day is for her kids and if they want to spend it in their P.J.'s then it has been declared our home day. If anyone wants to visit, we'll get dressed for the occasion. BTW, we live in the same house together, so we can all stay casual and comfy.

The only holiday I get with my kids and grandkids is Christmas breakfast. We used to do others, but they complained about having to go to two houses in one day. My daughter-in-law's mom is Madam Queen Bee, and MUST have them on holidays. So I would rather give in than cause problems. I do insist on breakfast which is around 10:30 or so, and then they go to dinner at HER house. One year SHE decided to have brunch instead of dinner, and my wonderful son spoke up and said "All my mom has ever had with us is breakfast on Christmas day, and you are not taking that away from her. You may have your brunch and your daughter can come if she wants to, but I and MY SONS will go to MY MOM'S." That solved that and there hasn't been another word about changing. We used to do New Years Day, big meal with collards and blackeyed peas and chicken and dressing etc. But now that all but one are grown up, they are probably too hung over for that. The last time we did it everybody was quiet and grumpy and I just decided not to deal with that either.

Ah, Sybil you did give me a laugh. But your New Years meal sounds delicious. Much different than our usual turkey fair. We were very fortunate that the inlaws were all on the same page, and each year was a different house. Then when we had our home, they came to our house. Now we are the inlaws and daughter's M-I-L switches from brunch to dinner between her two sons. And we bring my mum home for the day from the seniors home. We feel that this could be her last year for the family outing. But you never know with these things. My sisters are coming into town, from the Island, and upcountry to stay overnight, so they can have Christmas with our mother.

This year since we're living back "home" (instead of across the country) we're going to host chirstmas for both families at our place. I'm pretty excited cuz it's a total pain in the *** to go to two places. yes I know that means I give up TWO turkey meals, my favorite meals but I just can't handle that much stress and hoopalah.

We are always invited to the holiday celebrations with son's wife's family, but they are so many and there are just the two of us, and they talk about people and stuff we don't know about, and have their own style of doing things. So we are not comfortable doing things with them. And once upon a time Queen Bee came to a dinner we had an told me all about how she did things differently. So......it just doesn't work that way. But we do see them on birthdays and odd occasions, so we're good.

Families,- sometimes you can do without them but it's nice if you have them and it works for everyone and everyone works with each other. Well, time to get supper on.
Pork shoulder steaks, baby potatoes, and corn on the cob.

Good Morning Friends!

We are home from our trip - and I'm trying to play "catch up"... not doing very well in that department.
So if I missed something important, please let me know.

Happy Columbus Day! (to the Americans)
and Happy Thanksgiving! (to the Canadians)

... ... ... ...

Today is also American Tag Day,
Native American Day,
National Day of Mourning Day,
National Depression Screening Day,
National Kick Butt Day,
National Pierogy Day,
and National Fluffernutter Day.

Enjoy your holiday of choice today!

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us that Children Are Wise!

A honeymoon couple is in the Watergate Hotel. The new bride is concerned and asked, "What if the place is still bugged?"

The groom says "Hmm... Good point. I'll look for a bug." He looks behind the drapes, behind the pictures, under the rug . . . "AHA!" he shouts! Sure enough, under the rug was a small disc shaped plate, with four screws. He gets his Swiss army knife, unscrews the screws, throws them and the plate out the window.

The next morning, the hotel manager asks the newlyweds "How was your room? How was the service? How was your stay at the Watergate Hotel?"

Curious, the groom says, "And why, sir, are you asking me all of these questions?"

The hotel manager says "Well, the room UNDER yours complained of the chandelier falling on them!"

I knew what fluffernutter was, NOT something I would eat. I had to google whifflebird.

Isn't it funny, the things we know about and the things we don't? I learn something new everyday around here.

Norma's sister's book had a reference to a whiffle bird that was hilarious. I know some people who are like that.
Norma, do you know what that is?

One thing I read was about a bird flying around and around in tighter circles until it flew into "it'self". That was more than I needed to know about whifflebirds.

I don't think I've seen that kind of bird around my bird feeders.

Probably a good thing, huh?

You probably wouldn't see many around your feeders because the nature of them is to fly "into themselves".

Gee I'm glad I went out for Thanksgiving dinner. What a hilarious conversation this is.
I can't remember what I found out or what the reference was made to. Hold on, I'll phone my sister. Okay here goes. A whifflebird is a made up bird who flies in smaller circles until he flys up his own ---! The context of June's book was in reference to her husband, who was so into himself and his "me" mentality, that he was not listening to her one day, so she got mad and called him a whifflebird. In other words he was an a--'ole.

Yep. That was the one. I know several people I could call that and be right on. In fact I have.
Your sister wrote a great book!
