Have you never had corned beef Jen? It was a staple food during WWII with the soldiers. But we had it as kids. It came from Australia and Argentina. Corned beef hash can be bought in most supermarkets. It has potato in it and spices etc and can be used as a side dish, or even on sandwiches if you wanted to. I stopped eating it when I found out the fat content. Too rich for my arteries.

I make mine from scratch, so I control the contents. It's still up there, but not nearly as bad as the canned stuff.

Speaking about eggs reminds me that on Dr. Oz today, they offered a tip when buying eggs from the supermarket. Dig down to the bottom of the pile and get the ones on the bottom, because they are closer to the cooler system and kept at a better temperature than those found on the top of the pile.

My mama used to cook that canned hash with eggs too.
It has always given me indigestion, so I haven't bought it for a very long time.
That is a good idea about the eggs, Norma. I never thought about that.
We just learn so much here from our IFFs don't we! I love it.

Good Morning Friends!

YAY!!!
It’s the weekend!

... ... ... ...

Today is National Coffee Day
Poisoned Blackberries Day,
National Museum Day,
National Public Lands Day,
Family Health and Fitness Day,
World Heart Day,
and VFW Day.

Enjoy your holiday of choice today!
I think I'll have a cup of coffee in celebration!

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a
PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT
reminding us that two wrongs don’t make a right!

A Washington state man has been arrested on allegations that he pointed a handgun at a pregnant woman because she was smoking a cigarette.

A police spokesman says the 24-year-old man reportedly stopped his pickup truck to shout at a smoker on a sidewalk, "Who the heck smokes when they're pregnant?" The woman replied, "I do."

Police stopped the man a short time later. He acknowledged confronting the woman but denied pulling a gun. Police say they found two semiautomatic .45-caliber handguns in his pickup's center console.

Here's a picture of what my mama used to do. I am sorry, but it looks a little like dog food to me. It is minced potatoes and corned beef and probably other stuff, pressed into the can. Mama sometimes would chill it and slice it in round slices and fry it, and have fried eggs with it. Or she would sort of smash it into a baking dish, make little wells in it and break eggs in the wells and then bake the whole thing. That would be breakfast.
Not being a breakfast food type person I didn't care for it. But to each her own. Many many people love it and still cook it. It just gives me a bellyache.

Jen corned beef is processed very differently than Shepards Pie, with its own distinct flavouring. To say is there the slightest similarity, you could stretch that truth. But as Shepards Pie is usually made with ground beef, corned beef is different in flavour and texture. Next time you are in the market get a can of beef hash. We had it served with eggs as well.

Good morning Joyce. Gorgeous sunny day once again. We have lucked out here in the Northwest. Beautiful summer, and beautiful fall so far. One of our best to date. Going for a drive today to see the territory around our house. Haven't ventured too far since hubby had heart surgery, but we need to enjoy this sunshine while we still have it.

That's my plan for next weekend. Taking the family out for a drive/hike day and festive lunch. It was too wet to do it this weekend. I'm hoping we will have some good Fall color, the trees are starting to turn a bit around here.

It has been rainy here. I spent lots of time knitting yesterday, which is hard with a Charlie in my lap. But it feels so good to snuggle a puppy again.
May do some more of that today.........Making hats and bootees and mittens for the TOL preemies.

Is there a size/weight guideline for baby things, and do you do blankets too?

We make all sizes. The hats and bootees are mostly for the larger preemies and newborns, although we do make some as little as possible. If the bootees fit our bent thumb and the hats fit a lemon, they use them with the little bereavement gowns.
Some of our ladies crochet afghans that are anywhere from 24 inches square to about 36 by 42. We make cloth blankets and so forth. We make isolette covers, sheets, just so many things.
I just felt like knitting yesterday, made two sets with hats, bootees and mittens. It doesn't take long when they are so itsybitsy.

I don't have any ride pictures, but I can give you this one. I finally got a decent picture of the summer project taken and sent it to hubby this morning. I can show it to those of you who have been following my wood adventure as well. When DS gets the mowing finished, I'm heading up to the top of the hill. I'll be in one of those swings shortly, maybe taking a nap.

I love the way you have incorporated the swings into the gazebo. A very inviting area.

Well, I have spent a very relaxing morning reading, but now it's time to get
ready for that drive. Mauieno, glad you mentioned pictures. I will take my camera with me. Never know what you might find.

Please excuse the interruption, but here’s a

reminding us to listen closely to children!
Sometimes what they see/say is very insightful!

The two young boys were discussing their ailments together in the children's ward. "Are you medical or surgical?" asked the first, who had been in the ward for a week.

"I don't know what you mean," replied the second.

"It's simple," replied the first. "Were you sick when you came in here? Or did they make you sick when you got here?"
