That sounds interesting. I never thought of using squash in a sort of Mac and cheese way. That would get veggies into someone who wouldn't eat them, I'll bet.

That was the kind of recipe book I got the idea from, about sneaking veggies into foods. Luckily, my daughter is pretty open to all kinds of foods so its not too much of an issue. I've done the same thing with cauliflower, but we like the butternut squash better. And there's just so much to do with the squash if theres extra!
I have some squash, think I'm going to have to cook it tomorrow now... lol!

Here's a recipe a friend gave me. I haven't made them, but she brought some to a luncheon and they were wonderful.
She sneaks veggies in wherever she can

SQUASH COOKIES
From Jill Esber
Prepare squash first: cut off ends; slice; put in pan with cup
water; cook until soft. Blend until like applesauce. Need 1 cup
per recipe.
1 stick butter
1 cup brown sugar
2 eggs (beaten)
1 Tbsp vanilla
1 cup squash
2 cup flour
1 Tbsp cinnamon
1 Tbsp soda
1 Tbsp baking powder
Cream together butter and brown sugar. then beat in eggs,
vanilla, and squash. Add dry ingredients. Drop on lightly greased
cookie sheet by rounded teaspoonful. Bake at 375 for 8 minutes.
Glaze with powdered sugar made with orange juice instead of milk.
Add 2 Tbsp softened butter, mix until smooth.

Good morning

Here is my contribution to the squash discussion. My sister loves this recipe and requests it often for family dinners. It's easy and delicious.

Joyce, that is my kind of casserole! I have made one similar but without the peppers and zucchini. And I think mine had cracker crumbs instead of stuffing. This one sounds better. Himself doesn't like "green squash". He eats yellow squash but not "green" zucchini. They taste the same to me and I love them both. He says the zucchini taste like cucumbers.
But I will try this one using all yellow squash. Thanks for sharing.

Spent Thanksgiving with Mom and Dad, DH and kiddos. Friday was the big dinner. Mom roasted a 20 pound turkey and made all the trimmings. Stuffing, mashed potatoes, gravy, squash, green bean casserole, and fresh and jellied cranberry sauce. It's my favorite feast. GOD IS GOOD!

Jen the plastic roach is a "different" kind of tradition. . .. Not sure how our family would react to that.

Joyce... I'm sure the casserole is yummy. Cornbread and squash sounds extra good. I'll print that out and try it out sometime.

I hope everyone had a happy Thanksgiving I'm liking these squash recipes. We've been trying to expand our veggie dishes lately, and so far I've gotten us all to like cabbage, yellow squash and (unhidden) zucchini. I used to shred zucchini and put it into whatever I could. They were never the wiser, lol! I did a yellow squash, zucchini, and potato casserole and *gasp* there were requests for seconds! I'm so glad to be trying new veggies. I was getting a little tired of spinach and broccoli. Love them both, but not every every night!

Good evening

I hope everyone has had a great holiday weekend. We had our dinner today and now everyone is napping. Who knew ham had that turkey tryptophan in it!

me either.... However my local independent scrapbook store had a deal on Saturday for "Small Business Saturday" and they give you a gift certificate for half of what you spend then to use in January. So, if you spend $100 on Saturday you get a GC worth $50 to spend in January. Needless to say I had no money left for Monday...

I was sucked in to the Cyber Monday vortex. Didn't get the greatest deal but got something I've been drooling over for a few weeks now: several of the new Spellbinders D-Lites dies. Marcos Paper had them discounted 25% & free shipping. I usually snub my nose at anything less than 50% but these are new & have been on my radar since they came out.

Which ones did you get, Paulette? They just keep coming out with the BEST stuff. I have too many already but it doesn't stop me from drooling over new ones.

I got one of the windows, the swirly tree & a flourish corner. The D-Lites are smaller dies---they work well on ATCs. My BFF, Hedy, also ordered---she's getting the other window, a different corner flourish, the poppies & the cat tails. We can share. I think the Marcos Paper sale is still on til midnight tonight if you're interested. Yes, I'm an enabler....

I looked at those D-lites and LOVE them. Did you get the one that is a "whimsical tree?"
Oh gosh, I hope I get a gift card somewhere that has them for Christmas.

Good morning crafty peeps

No, I haven't fallen off the face of the earth - DH is home. We are doing major house chores, and I haven't had 10 minutes to myself. And no crafting I'm going to be down to the last minute getting my Christmas cards done this year. Yikes!

How about some questions of the day to keep you occupied until things get back to normal around here? (yeah, I know...like that's ever gonna happen!)

1. What really is in outer space?

2. What kind of old person do you want to be?

3. What would you most like to do for someone else if you had the money and
time?

1. What really is in outer space? Outer space is the air that sometimes surrounds my 16 year old's head.

2. What kind of old person do you want to be? I want to be like my Grandmother, I have such great memories of her, and I would love for my grandkids (not that I have any yet or want any soon, because my kids are a little too young yet to start families) to have memories like I have of my Grandma Johanna.

3. What would you most like to do for someone else if you had the money and
time?
If I had the money I would set all three of my children up with homes with no mortgages.

Just so you know Joyce you can't fall off it is round, didn't you pay attention when we were in school. I am going to go tell Mom.

1. What really is in outer space?

All the balloons my kids let go when they were kids.

2. What kind of old person do you want to be?

I am an old person and this is it. It is what it is.
Seriously, I am still the same happy, quirky, "whimsical" person as I was all my life. (My sister-in-law says I am artsy phartsy.) I think I am more inclined to speak my mind, and much slower to get things done.

3. What would you most like to do for someone else if you had the money and
time?

There are so many REAL needs! I would probably just meet the need of the day, whatever it was. I would like to see my kids debt free, but if I paid all their bills and paid for their houses, they would just go charge more stuff. So I would concentrate on what would really help.

Boy, these are thinking questions! I'm not sure my tired-friday brain can handle them. Here's my best shot!

1. What really is in outer space? My soon to be ex-husband if he keeps having his new girlfriend sleep over on the nights my daughter is there (btw, we only separated in June...)

2. What kind of old person do you want to be? The kind still in love with my husband (a new one, obviously ) who walks down the beach still holding hands....

3. What would you most like to do for someone else if you had the money and time? hmmm, I try to live one day at a time, so I think I'd fix the immediate needs of the day.

Have a good one, everyone!

Good morning friends. I am still a little fuzzy brained, having only just opened my eyes, but let's see what I can come up with here. Good questions, too!

1. What's really in outer space?
All the silent wishes you voiced, that are just waiting to find the path back with answers.

2. What kind of old person do you want to be?
I am on the edge of being one and my one thought is that I would want to stay as I am mentally. But I would wish I could be one of those active and alert souls, with their legs under them for exploring with no boundaries what life can give you. But I can't, so I must find other ways of enjoying me.

3. What would I most like to do for someone if I had the money and time?
Share the wealth in meaningful ways that would help many in their needs but teach them the value of payback as well.

Now it is time to have some breakfast and clear the nightwebs off my brain.
Have a good day everyone.

Not since last year, eh Joyce? LOL. I think this weekend will be a decorating one for me too. Somewhere out in that packed garage is my little tree and ornaments. I have some houses too. Living on the ground level of the house, I have a foundation shelf in my living room. So if I find them, I may set up my Christmas street too. Bring on the holidays I say.

No Norma, I haven't used the Christmas china for several years now. I actually put up the BIG tree this year also and tried out my revolving tree stand for the first time. Normally the fellows in my house are not around much this time of year (DH), or are less than cooperative (DS), and I don't bother with too much. Since DH has been home for a week, I laid down the law and said we are doing it right this time. So my house looks festive this year - Yay!

Peter and I got our live Christmas tree last Wednesday. We always get a Frasier Fir at the same landscape, garden center ever year. It will stay in the garage until the beginning of the week and then Peter will trim the trunk and the top, put it up in the living room and let the branches settle. Then out come the over 1200 ornaments and Peter will decorate it Then we have the Christmas Tree party on Friday the 14th. Usually 50-60 people in and out from 5-9 pm. I do all the food (meatballs, cocktail weenies, dips, chips, veggies, cheese and crackers, etc) We also have beeer, wine, soda, water for our guests. It is great fun. People will bring other snacks or a bottle of wine or whatever. Made 70 invitations and will send those on Monday. Those double for Christmas cards but I still make about 20-25 and send those out (sometimes not until between Christmas and New Years...oh well

Wow, that's quite the endeavour you take on. We haven't had dinners at our house for years now. Generally my dtr does all the cooking and family and friends come here. (We live in the same house- top and bottom) so the people they know, we know. And they then have a separate house opening for their younger friends. We help financially towards all the food, but she is the baker, cook and decorator. The guests help to clean up later. But it is still a lot of work. Well, I guess I should look for my tree. Time to get sparkly.

We just got back from Himself's family Christmas party. His sister always has it at her house, she has the biggest house in the family. It is always nice to see his sisters and their children and grandchildren. Once a year.

We either go to my daughter's or son's on Christmas Eve day to celebrate family Christmas. They cook the meal, we exchange goodies and then go to church. This year it is at my daughter's house. Both my kids live in Sun Prairie justlike Peter and I. We sure are blessed!

Okay.......here's my update to our monoprinting discussion....

1. Gelliarts said that the "The mineral oil is part of the patented formula to create an ideal printing surface.". Their answer as to what the oil might do to the paint or the paper was to quote what is on their website re: the harmless oil, so I'm interpreting that to mean there is no negative effect on the paint or the paper
2. Ok, you guys are so right, TOTALLY addictive. I started making monoprints early this morning (continuing off and on throughout the course of the day) and I'm still at it HAHA. Just watched some videos on YouTube for more complex ideas/processes and right after dinner I'm going to try some of those out. This is so much fun and not at all the clean up pain that I thought it might be.

Hope you guys are having a great family day, Joyce

I don't have china.
Just gathered up other holiday decor.... fall leaves, jack=o=lanterns, and I'm embarrased to say this but two easter decorations I guess I never realized I hadn't put away.

Does anyone not decorate for holidays and seasons? Just wonderin. I've been considering skipping the decorating.

1. What really is in outer space? Lost socks and earrings

2. What kind of old person do you want to be? Godly

3. What would you most like to do for someone else if you had the money and time? I would pay off the mortgage and vehicles for my hubby. I would pay for college for my children. I would support local food pantry's more and Buy an RV for JOYCE and she could tour the USA seeing all our SCS pals.
time.
