Default Yahoo! Scrapbook Expo is Coming to Dallas FtWorth

We (DFW) got added into the schedule for the Expo! Hopefully by the end of Feb. when it gets here, the vendors will have stocked up on some of the new CHA goodies!!

Even more fun is that the show is going to be at the Gaylord Hotel Convention Center!

I thought about it - but I am going on a retreat that weekend. Much less expensive!

Y'all should make a plan with a time to meet and take a group picture.

I have trouble 'hearing' my phone notifications in a convention center, but if y'all send a PM to me while you're there, *and I hear my phone notify me*, then we could have a meet & pic!

I am SO jealous. You get so many more shows in the Dallas area than we get in the Houston area.

This is a brand new-to-the-area show this year. It's very welcome, of course, as our independent scrappy/stampy brick & mortar stores just don't exist any more around here. I'm tickled that it's coming, but also very intrigued as to the success of this weekend. Why? 'Cuz we want it to come back ... especially if it's a nice one!

In short .... can hardly wait!!

So, was the Expo a good show overall?

How was the Gaylord?

Yes it was a lot of fun.

I almost wish I had shopped more and did less classes.

But the Gaylord Texan was nice. I walked and looked at the little riverwalk thing. I didn't stay there, but I didn't hear all to great reviews from some of the vendors who did.

I was by myself so just went through the little buffet thing they had set up it had chicken pasta with bread sticks, and came with tea if you wanted it. I liked it and it was good. It was $ 13, but I expected food to be high.

As for the vendors stories,

mainly their bad experiences were at the restaurants the girls from sprinkle and sparkle got one of the special 100 oz beer pitchers and when they got to the bottom there were huge fruit flies , like the thing hadn't been washed.

Then the girl from RubberStamp cafe said the Italian place was not good at all, and the Mexican place was ok..
I don't remember which place but at one of them she said the service was horrible didn't refill their glasses and they said they had completely emptied them water, ice and all, a waiter comes by and figured they hadn't used them didn't ask or anything and took them up and carried them over to a shelf and started putting them up.. She called the manager over and said those glasses are dirty, he was all defensive and said no they are not... and she said yeah I'm pretty sure if you look at them you will find one with my passion pink lip gloss on it.

So my experience was good, but for the ones I talked to that stayed onsite... Not so much.

For those of us who did not stay at the hotel, parking came at a premium. It is $18.00 daily ... unless you happened to come upon the table near the entrance to the Expo iteself. You could purchase a $15.00 cash ticket for parking. If you didn't have cash, there was an ATM near the other end of the long hall. I went there on day 2 for cash ... but there's a $3.50 charge to use the ATM. So ... it was just cheaper to pay the $18.00. IMO, $18 for one day to park, or $36 for both days really takes a big bite out of your proposed crafty budget. Maybe that's just me ...

Otherwise, I enjoyed the show a lot! Our area has the chain stores here & there, but this provided welcome shopping for new-from-CHA items, and for those like myself who adore looky-feely-touchy on new papers, and other products, this was happy shopping!

(That doesn't even mention the awesomeness of having stampy girlfriends staying with me to enjoy the entire shindig!)

Hey stampingtwinkie! I loved your video, great job. What a great haul of bargains!!

I would have loved to go to Srapbook Expo especially since I didn't get to go to the other other 2 conventions but having it at the Gaylord was a deal breaker for me. Cannot for the life of me figure out why they thought the Gaylord was a good place to have it. Grapevine is a great central location for the area but I knew the parking at that hotel would be expensive. They didn't warn people that there would be a parking fee either... and so expensive, yikes!! Those food/resturant stories, well gag. Stamptingtwinkie, maybe next time we can meet up and I'll take us elsewhere to eat. There is a mall full of food choices just around the corner or a really cute downtown area full of places a few minutes the other direction.

Hope everyone that did go had a good time though...

Lightbulb Great American Scrapbook Convention * June 2013

Hey girls!

Arlington, Texas hosts the annual Great American Scrapbook Convention at the Arlington Convention Center each June. Here's the link to sign up for the newsletter to be "in" on the information as it's made available.

This show has generally been the largest stampy/scrrappy convention here in the N. Texas area, complete with scrapping classes each day. It will be interesting to see how it changes after some of the vendors having opted to travel down here for the Scrapbook Expo event last weekend in G'vine. Nevertheless, I'm planning to be there. (Can't miss these fun things!)

Bev - The GASC has new owners and it will be a combo convention - quilters, crafts, etc. Just some FYI

Yeah ... I've heard that. I hope the scrappy/stampy customers come out in force to let them really see how we enjoy and appreciate our industry!

Sounds good. I really liked the classes better at the heirloom show and it was in grapevine at the little community convention center, and parking was free. Are you the same stamin stacy as on the site rubber stamp chat?

Yep thats me, hey!!!

Scrapbook Expo used to have that June slot at the Arl convention center, GASC took it over when they quit coming to the area. I have thought about going to GASC but I'm not into scrapbooking so never have.

I'm not so into scrapbooking either, but one of my new favorite stamp companies are going to be there. Local King rubber stamps, The owner is the artist for all the images and she also is the one who draws out the designs for her dies, so they are very detailed and fit the stamp perfectly. So I may go mainly for that, and see what else I find. Are you in the Dallas area?

Thumbs up

I had a great time too, I only went one day and totally wore myself out!!

I signed up for the CHA New Tools review, the goodie bag was the bomb!! They advertised there would be over $80 of product in the take-home bag and there definately was. (There was a "Big" Score Pal with the Envelope tool, a Distresser tool, a Sew Stamper and Sewer "kit", and lots of other fun goodies in the take-home bag!) Lots of give-away prizes too during the class; I won a template set which I immediately used! There were other girls in the class that had taken the "other" CHA class also (the one that reviewed new products) and they got 5 or 6 full Scrapbook Kits from different companies in that class. That was really worth the cost of the class!

I mostly stocked up on new dies and vintage embellishments. It was awesome to see some new vendors that hadn't been to our area before!

You know for the parking, I went to eat lunch at the River Walk Cafe, and they gave me a parking pass - I didn't pay anything when I left, I just gave them the pass. I guess I didn't realize how lucky I was!!

I sure hope they come back! Next year I will definately go for two days instead of one!! (And have someone drop me off instead of park!! LOL!)

Lucky you!! Ummm what river, is that a place at the hotel?

Maybe next time at the very least we could all meet at the mall, pile into one car and then split the parking for that one car.

Yes Andrea, I live in the dfw area
