Can anyone give me more information on Pinterest? I have heard about it three times in the last week but the website doesn't explain anything.
Is there any security? I'm always a little hesitant to put too much of me on the internet but this sounds like the solution to my hoarding of ideas.
Shayshe, it's like bookmarking but with visual aids. If you want to keep track of a web page then you Pin it (via a button installed on your Bookmarks toolbar - painless installation). The Pinterest website pops up a window with all the images on the page - you then select which image you want & can add descriptions, etc.
Describing how to do it sounds complex but, in reality, it's simple and easy. I wasn't sure if I would like it but now see it as a vast improvement on bookmarks. The best way to see if you like it is to give it a go. At most you'll waste a little time & you can always cancel your account.
There are privacy settings that can be changed - I don't see it as risky. After all, what information is being shared - pages on the web that you like; nothing more! I see Facebook as riskier.
I've only recently started & am still sorting out categories (called boards). Here's my pinterest page - which might give you an idea of how it works & how you can set up your own cattegories.

Another way to explain it is to compare it to your "Favorites" gallery here on SCS. You know how you post cards you love to your Favorites gallery so you can go back and look at them anytime you want? That's the concept of Pinterest -- different lingo. On Pinterest you "pin" (post) cards to your "boards" (galleries -- you can have as many as you want, different categories, not just one). The things you pin are automatically linked to the source they actually came from, so you can go back and check out the blog or website that they came from anytime -- because it's saved to your board! It's brilliant! And that's just the beginning. The thing that makes it so much fun is that you can see other peoples "Favs" (boards) now! Haven't you always wondered what other people are putting into their Favs and wonder if you're missing something awesome??? Well, now you have access to anyone's boards. And they can see yours. And if you see something you like in their gallery (their board), you can pin it to your own gallery (board). And you can follow that board if you want. It goes on and on, and you will figure out how to follow just specific categories of stuff (recipes, craft things, jewelry, baby things, etc.). It's very easy. Even Paula Dean has boards out there!!

looks like it too could be addictive!
Post #167 above has a really good explanation of it. It is basically a visual way to bookmark things - a specific picture on a page versus using your bookmarks or favourites in your internet browser.
A pin is the equivalent of ripping a picture from a magazine, and putting it on a cork board at home. In the electronic world, once I pin a picture on my board, you can copy (or repin) it to your own board.

I've noticed this happening as well. They seem to be pins on sites such as from Better Homes & Gardens. I wonder if they move/change their links for some reason.
I found an example by a random google search. Go to:
Look at two boards on the bottom of the page, one is "The Holmwoods House" and the "photo of a pin" shows up on the second row of the preview of the board. The other is "Table Settings" at the very bottom and the second and third pin on the first line of the preview are these "photo of a pin".
When you click on them, some work and take you to a picture and some don't.
