Hi ladies. I just saw that Michaels has changed their coupon policy. NO stores will be doing the coupon exception log (that paper they would have you sign if you didn't have a coupon) I know some of you had "nice" stores that would let you use them alot and some of you had "meany" stores that would act like they didn't know what you were talking about. Well, according to the memo from corporate we no longer will be doing it at all. ALL customers must have an actual coupon to use. :(
We were also told on the memo in bold print to accept e-mail coupons....some of you were having trouble with getting those accepted at your local M's. Which never made sense to me...those stores must not read their memos from corporate! Photo copies are NOT allowed. We (employees) have asked about e-mail coupons printed in b&w....I personally do not want to waste my color ink on a coupon! and some people just do not have colored ink. No answer so far.
We still accept competitor coupons....
I can't remember anymore of the details....I wanted to make a copy of the memo but I wasn't allowed and I didn't have time to jot down all the info.
And that is why I shop at AC Moore and not Michaels. I am on AC Moore's email list and they send me a coupon every week. ONE that I can print off with my computer. I have written to Michaels and asked them to get in the 21st century. Everything is done online nowadays. AC Moore even has an online store, I have also written to them telling them to get with the program and offer coupons online like JoAnn's does.
Yet another reason why I shop less and less ant Michaels!! Their selection sucks and now they are making it harder to use their coupons....mind you, the only times I go to M's is when I have a coupon to use. Go figuere!!

I was actually in M's just this week with one of the 50% off coupons
that came to my email. The checker asked me where I got the coupon
since several customers had asked her about them. I explained that I had
signed up a year or more ago and suddenly I am getting coupons.
She explained that they are changing the coupon policy and they were not
even sure what the final policy would be.
Upon checkout I received a 20% coupon on my receipt and she handed me
a 40% off coupon laying on the register. She told me that I would be able to
stack those coupons but not stack 2 regular coupons. Just the register one.
First time that I have done well at a Michaels in a long time.
I remember when Michaels said I could not use a coupon with anything from Martha Stewart, I thought ok. lucky me as I didn't really like what they were selling from her line.
Their corporate office is living in the dark ages to not offer online coupons.

I went into Michaels one day last week with two of the printed 50% off coupons and my checker let me use them both...just got lucky that time. they normally do not let you.
Blessings.
I printed the last 50% off coupon from M's and used it for a new paper cutter. It was printed in black & white and they didn't even ask me about it. I probably wouln't have purchased the paper cutter without it.
How do you get a coupon in your email? I am on the mailing list and receive emails with the weekly flyer, etc. but I have never figured out how to get the printable coupon. Am I just dense?

Living in Canada we have no choices, Mikes.....or basically nothing, just small independent stores who's prices are high and little choice to chose from. Some good on-line stores about 1 hr away, but nothing beats actually seeing things, I like to browse and shop

I totally agree with this. I go to Michael's maybe 3 or 4 times in a year and never find anything I want. They always have the same old plain boring stuff. No cool paper or stamps. Nothing!! I like ACMoore and was so excited when they arrived in my town. And they have been offering online coupons for years.

You can try De Serres and Opus for some of the stuff... Limited selection compared to the specialty stores, but I often find some good deals. We're lucky here in Lower Mainland area - we have quite a few stores that specialize in scrapbooking/stamping. So far I never had a problem with Michaels' coupons printed on my printer (but I do colour prints) and I was always OK with signing that sheet with name and postal code in order to get their discount. We will see if that changes. Even if it does, I won't be too upset as I only go there with a coupon to get some of the more expensive tools (got my Cuttlebug there, crop-a-dile, paper trimmer and such), but I do not really like their selection for smaller items. Oh, well, I guess I will just have to go to Clipper Street a lot more. Yay! :-)

Well, this part really does make sense though. While it was nice to be able to just sign the log, what would be the point of even having coupons if just anyone could come in and sign the log. From a business stand point I totally agree with this change.
I don't have AC Moore or Hobby Lobby in the big market of Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti MI. It is JoAnn's Etc. or Michaels. I am shopping more and more on the net.

This is why I go to Joanns whenever possible...they will take anything..
I have used 1 computer michaels, 1 ad michaels, 1 computer acmoore, 1 ad acmoore, 1 computer joanns, 1 newspaper joanns and 1 ad joanns all in the same transaction. They will take as many as you have as long as they are all different....I dont know why they care...I will just leave and come back when my trips are done to use another coupon..I can say the other stores are not getting the majority of my business because of the coupon thing.
I was in Michaels last week with an e-mail coupon that I printed on my B&W printer (don't have color), and the cashier told me she wasn't supposed to take B&W coupons but she would this one time. I told her I didn't have a color printer, and asked what I was supposed to do. She said she didn't know, but they couldn't take B&W from now on because what's to say that I didn't photocopy it somewhere. So I then asked her what's stopping someone with a color printer from printing multiple copies? Can you print only one? She didn't know, and I realized that she is just doing what she's told, but I wasn't very happy with the situation.
So, could you, if you wanted to "spend" the color ink, print multiple copies of the e-mail coupon in color?
I've gotten to the point that I try not to go there. And they're the only game in our small-ish town, since the LSS closed last week.:(
I print out several of the Michael's coupons and go a couple of times a week and use one each day, if I am in need of several things. but Yeah, they wont let you use 2 in one trip....thats when I take my son and make him check out too. LOL

I do the same thing and have never had a problem. I print my coupons at work - I don't have a color cartridge on my home computer.

There's nothing stated anywhere on the coupon or e-mail that says you can only print one. Like the others, I print off as many as I need and keep them in the front seat of my car so that I have them handy.
I signed up for Michaels Email at least 6 weeks ago and I have yet to get my first one. I will miss signing the book and getting the coupon that way.
Happy Inker have you been to Scrapbooking Warehouse on Oak St (very near the airport)? The people are very nice although one did tell me off one day for buying on line!!! I made a special trip there a few weeks ago to buy the Scor-Pal for $29.99....(very good deal), ended up spending over $100, though, so it was a good deal for them too.
Yes, I agree, we here in Canada are stuck with no HL or AC Moores. However, some of us live pretty close to the US and we hop down there very often!!! HappyInker and others in Vancouver, there is a great stamp store just off I 5, south of Bellingham. Then there's Joanns too!
why does Micheals have so many restrictions with coupons?
Is it because their total sales are not that great from coupon sales
or because they don't change their stock much. I for one, don't see their stock changing much. I can also see why they would not allow b&w
coupons, as they were probably copied off another source. Joanne fabrics doesn't change their stock much either, and I shop in a town of 60,000
people

I work at M's and I can tell you the coupon policy - ALL coupons are accepted, be it original or emailed copies from Michael's, Hobby Lobby & JoAnn's, for those of you with AC Moore's check with the store to see if that is accepted as well. Emailed coupons do not have to be in color.
The reason the policy was changed was because there were too many people were taking advantage of the log. As far as I know we are the only store to honor competitor coupons - I know the JoAnns & HL in MO will not take anyones coupons except their own. All coupons are one per person per day. If you have 2 coupons, 1 50% off one item & 1 20% off whole purchase, they can be used at the same time because they are technically different coupons. You may not use 2 50% off coupons at the same time.
For those of you with yucky stores I'm sorry - we are consistently number 1 or 2 in our district due to the fact all the employees take great pride in our store.

I guess I don't see the difference between a photocopied e-mail coupon and one that is printed off multiple times on a color printer. I'm even more frustrated with the fact that they send coupons via e-mail, but you must own a color printer to use them. I feel that they should either send them via e-mail and put no restrictions on them or mail them out and require the original. I, too, understand not allowing photocopies of mailed coupons - that's the same rule for everyone, regardless of what computer equipment you own.
Well then I guess Michaels as a corporation needs to be able to tell the public better where to get the internet coupons. Cause I printed one off last week and it was B&W and it was a no go. Cyndi
My store told me they will not take a printed Joann's coupon. So, it seems that, as usual, the policies are not the same at all stores.

Black and white coupons can be used - I'm not sure who is passing this bad info about internet coupons needing to be color only, but it is false info!!

What I quoted is Corporate policy so your store isn't following it - contact Corporate and make a complaint.

Last week I used that 50% off coupon at least 10 different times and I used a b/w copy from my email. It was from my personal email so my info was on the whole sheet. I did have one clerk that has always been rude that tried to act like she didnt know what it was but another clerk told her to just scan it and move along. She scanned it and I didnt have any problems. My selection at M's has gotten alot better in the past few weeks with new primas and papers. I have also picked up a big bite and a new Xyron and lots of refills. I am sure they are glad the stock is being moved to make way for other items. I think if the coupon scans and its their coupon they i dont think they have a right to tell you it should be in color or b/w.
I think the B&W thing is just local stores/clerks not understanding. I think if that happened to me I'd wait in line while the clerk got the manager and called corporate, lol. The idea that they won't take them because "they look like copies" is ludicrous, lol!
I know it's the principle of the thing, but if you really want to save color ink, check your printer settings. Mine has a "Fast Draft" setting that spits pages out 50 times as fast as normal setting, and it really saves a ton of ink. It's not as if I need the thing to last forever, kwim? Just for a few days.
Like I have said once before Michaels has a tendency to pull the "policy card" when ever they feel like it ,but never seem to have a reasonable explantion for a follow up response. Suprise. I hardly go there any more btwn. the witchy employee and all the rules and regulations, forget it. I will shop somewhere else (A.c. Moore) where the Customer Service warrents my business!
You are all so lucky! 50% off coupons!! Wow that's my dream! We don't have that stuff in the Netherlands. We have one company that sometimes gives a discount, but then you get 10% off and you only get that if you come on a certain saturday and shop between 10 and 12 in the morning or something like that. So I never make it to get that discount. :( When they have clearance there is always the same old stuff that still is very expensive.
When there is new stuff they are always very late with getting this stuff in their shop. You can guess that I don't go there very often.

Well, it is my opinion that Michael's is over priced. Coupons wouldn't be needed if they just priced themselves more competitively.
Regarding the OP, I don't have a problem with Michael's doing away with the list. It was completely unfair, as some customers were able to take advantage and others were not. No other store lets you come in and ask for a 40% discount in exchange for your signature on a piece of paper. I know it's frustrating for the people who have been using this method, but it seems to me they are doing more coupons now. They send them via email, they give them to you at check-out and they have them when you enter the store. Call me crazy, but I think their policy has actually gotten better.
