I drove 45 miniutes to a Michaels to purchase a book that I really wanted. I had a 50% off coupon for Michaels and 1 for Joanns. The Michaels one did say it was not able to use on books and magizines. The Joanns one did not. They would not allow me to use the Joanns one on the book. I told the lady it does not say that books are a restriction on the Joanns coupon. Still couldn't use it. I have NEVER had problems with coupons before. Maybe it was just that certain store. I was very DISAPOINTED. Any advise as what to do, anyone have a simular experence.:(
In the past year I have lived in two different states and any of the Michael's I shopped at would not take a coupon on books or magazines.
I never tried a Joanns coupon for books at Michael's
I guess they have the right to refuse to use a competitors coupon on whatever they want. Yes, it sucks, but if they don't allow books on their own coupons, they are more than likely not going to allow them to be purchased with a Joanns coupon. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I really don't think there's much you can do considering using a Joanns coupon there is more of a courtesy on Michaels part, not a requirement. KWIM? Hope this doesn't read as snarky, as I am soooo not intending it that way, Just giving an opinion.
I remember reading somewhere on here about 1 or 2 years ago that Michaels had quit accepting coupons on books or magazines. Maybe it was that they had contracted out the book/magazine part of the business, or something like that.
I had a 50% off coupon yesterday, and they didn't have what I wanted. I walked around for a while, then bought something the was originally $6.99. It stinks to have something specific in mind and have to leave the store without it.
Sorry to hear you were disappointed. I know that Michael's and Joann's in our area only honor each others coupons on items they both carry and their own store rules apply.

Now that you mention the idea that they may have contracted out the books I think you may be right. A couple of months ago when I was in Michael's' I asked a person who was restocking books where to find something and she said she didn't work for Michael's so she didn't know .
I tried to use a coupon a few month ago on the Go To Sketches magazine and they wouldn't let me, I hadn't noticed they'd changed policies but it was indeed on the coupon. I think all Michael's are doing it, unfortunately not really anything you can do about it I guess.
I think Michaels stopped accepting coupons on books and magazines over a year ago. I know I don't buy them there anymore because of that. It must be because they contracted out that portion of the business - kind of like pop and candy machines - the companies actually pay them to use the space.
Yes, my Michael's in Geneva, Illinois, no longer accepts coupons on books and magazines. It's a shame because some of the magazines I like are more expensive than a lot of their stamping and scrapbooking merchandise. The PC Go To Sketches I last purchased there was worth full price though!

Michaels doesn't allow coupons on books or magazine so I don't think they would allow a competitor coupon on it either but Joanns still accepts coupons on books and mags. I just bought papercrafts card style with a 40% coupon over the weekend. Maybe you can find the book you're looking for a J's and use the coupon...they take competitors coupons too I believe.
Well I found the books at Amazon.com for $19. There are 4 that I want I can buy 2 and my total would be around $39. at Michaels they are $29. each. I will be ordering them from Amazon.com. It pays to shop around.

When I see a crafting book out at Michael's, I always jot down the info and Amazon is the first place I look. It's amazing what all they have and most at really good prices. Sometimes, I can't even get a particular book at my Mike's or JoAnn's but Amazon always seems to have it.

Chances are that the books you are buying qualify for free standard shipping if you spend more than $25. Good luck with your order and enjoy the books!

I talked to a clerk at Michael's last night and she told me that the books are handled by an outside vendor. That's why the coupon doesn't work for them.
This afternoon one our our local Michael's refused to accept a Joann's coupon. When pressed the clerk said they were being told Joann's refused to accept Michael's coupons, it actually felt like Jr. High for a moment or two.
I am so sorry for y our drive and yes Michaels does this now and has for some time. It doesn't seem fair but you know they have us because we will purchase other products. Have you tried Amazon or googled your book at a cheaper price?
Yikes. My Michael's always took coupons on books... I wonder if that changed now. I'm disappointed for a different reason. I've noticed their prices have spiked on a few items. I never used to have a hard time spending my gift cards - it was hard this time!
