Help...Color # Codes on Prismacolor Markers?

I've looked everywhere...I can't find any information on the numbering system on the Prismacolor markers. I know the Copics have a specific meaning to each letter and number... and I assumed that Prisma's would have something similar. The only thing I have figured out is that the first letters represent the actual tool...(like PM 196 is a Prismacolor Marker) I can't find any rhyme or reason to the numbering though. Even the same colors in the different mediums don't have the same number.

Does anyone have any insight on the #ing system for the Prismacolor Markers???

I thought I was the only one who puzzled over the codes! I spent some time trying to figure it out once and finally decided they must have just numbered them in the order they came up with the colors - nothing else makes any sense.

I don't think the numbers mean anything other than ID numbers.....nothing like the copics where the letters and numbers combo equals a color family and shade.

Thanks gals...I have looked everywhere too... I am guessing that the numbers are more for "identification" than an actual system for finding colors that work together. Thanks for the info. Glad I'm not the only one!

Originally there used to be some grouping of colors. But that was grouping, not color compatability. Since colors have been added and colors have been removed, I think you will find that the most organization by number there is now is by date released!

I think its labebled by the type of marker so the p means prismacolor m means marker b means brush and the numbers with similar color families have similar have around the same number code
