Hi! I was participating in a thread a couple of weeks ago that said I can cut flowers out with felt in my CB! I got a bunch of felt, and a CB for my birthday today. I also got the asterisk die set. When I try to cut the felt, it only cuts the edges of a few petals. What am I doing wrong? I am cutting/embossing paper fine! Just the felt I am having issues with!! HELP ME! Keri
I have cut felt in my cuttlebug without a problem. It sounds like you might need a shim (a piece of cardstock or two) to make your sandwich tighter and hopefully a deeper cut through your felt.
Let me know if that works so I'll know in the future if it happens to me.
Okay, I figured it out, *I think*!! I added a chipboard shim--cereal box thickness. I tried it under the top B plate, and on top of the top B plate, and it worked both ways. I course, when it was under the top B plate, the it got cut out in the shape I was trying to cut the felt as. Where should I be putting the chipboard in the "sandwich"?? Keri
I am wondering about the quality of my felt. I think it is cheap. When I used the asterisk die with several smaller asterisks, it cut them pretty good, but they kind of ripped apart (the petals fell off) when I tried to pop them out.
Anyone have an idea about my question above, where to place the shim? Keri
Oh man, I never even thought about cutting felt! I was at Mikes today, and should have picked some up with my 30% off coupon - what would that be, like 3 cents? lol

Ladies.......Realize that you can cut anything with the Cuttlebug that you can cut with scissors. Felt, craft foam, leather, metal, chipboard, fabric, compressed sponge, cork, etc.
For the felt, I would suggest getting the felt that is stiff or running the felt through your Xyron machine first to put the sticky back on it. Having the paper from the Xyron will make it easier to run through your Cuttlebug. It gives the felt more stability. Very tiny cut pieces need to be removed from the felt very carefully. Remember the felt is very fiberous.
If you do use a shim, put the shim under the die so that you are not cutting through the shim also. You only want the shim to make more compression.
There are lots of threads on this site on how to use the Cuttlebug and all the things it will cut. Lots of good instructions. Also read the instruction booklet that came with your Cuttlebug, that will help you out a lot too.
I used a thin "feathery" kind of felt and my dies did NOT like it one bit. I couldn't even save the die "cut" with my scissors because the felt just kinda fell apart. The stiffer felt definitely works well, and the craft foam is awesome too. Haven't tried any other non-paper materials with it.

Yes, try some different felt. The quality of the 'craft felt' is pretty crummy. I've had great success with the stiff felt, and wool blend felt should work well too.
this stiff felt? Is it the stuff you buy by the square rather than by the yard off the bolt? How do I know??
I get mine at ACMoore or Michaels. It's something like a 12x18 ish sheet. You'd know it if you felt (har har) it--it doesn't drape like fabric, it's really stiff. I think it might come in smaller sheets too, 9x12, but I use it more for sewing projects, so I get the bigger ones and use my scraps for CBing.
I got an assortment at joann's the other day, it was 10/$1.00. Some of it was of an obviously nicer, better quality...some, not so great. The brand depended on the color. The orange was nice, the pink was cheap! I will know what to look for next time! Keri
