Default TLC24 -- please join in!

This week's TLC is Faux Glassine Paper.

What is glassine paper? The dictionary says it is a nearly transparent, resilient glazed paper resistant to the passage of air and grease. Sometimes you get your postage stamps in a glassine envelope.

My thanks to Trish Bayley for sharing her technique with all of us via the web.

Here is the link on how to do it:
Edited 8/28/08 by Beth: link does not work! :( If you have done this technique and know how to do it, please tell us! It has been literally 3 years since we did this, and I just don't remember exactly how do it.

Here is what I remember: Cut a gallon size ziploc bag open so that it opens and closes like a book. Open the "book" and dribble some Future Floor Wax on the right 'page'. Add some drops of reinkers and even a little Pearl Ex if you like. On top of all this, lay a sheet of white tissue paper. Close the "book", and press gently. This will distribute the Floor Wax. Careful you don't squeeze so hard it leaks out; it's ok if does...it is just messy! Open back up the book and leave the tissue paper to dry COMPLELETY. Once it is dry, you can peel it off the plastic very easily and use it just like you would patterened paper.

Here is my card:
Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

My tip: WAIT until the tissue paper is COMPLETELY dry before trying to peel it off the plastic. If it is totally dry, it will peel off like a dream. If it is still wet/damp, then the tissue paper will tear. (ask me how I know this! )

Second tip: if you want to speed up the dry time, take a sheet of WW cardstock and press it down over the tissue paper after the reinkers and floor wax have been applied. This will soak up a lot of the excess floor wax, AND give you a really cool background paper as it will soak up the color too.

This was a little messy, but the results were well worth the mess AND the wait.

Please put TLC24 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread.

If you need help uploading or posting a link to this thread, check out this link:

If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN' !!

Ready? Set? Stamp!

Wow - looks like fun. I'll have to do the technique today so I have time to let it dry and I can make the card tomorrow...

Beth, this looks like so much fun. I am so impatient, though. I'll probably wander by all day wondering if that paper is dry!

Thank goodness were are out of milk and I can run to the store with a good excuse. My DH just shakes his head at the things I keep in here. Bleach, wax paper, plastic wrap, iron, acetone, hairspray, hair gel. Now add floor wax to the items in my craft room.

Sounds like me but don't forget the oxiclean, shaving cream, and foil! We were out of foil one time and my hubby sent the kids to me asking if they could borrow my stamping foil cuz Daddy figured I must have some of it in my stamping stuff ;)

LOL on the foil. DH did the same thing but with bleach, I guess is socks were a little dingy. I forgot about the oxiclean, shaving cream and foil. Better add them to the list.

Default Not for the impatient! :)

Here are mine. I am incredibly impatient, so here are two things I did to speed up the drying process: 1) dabbed tissue paper at the end with paper towel and 2) set the whole thing outside in the sun. Of course, I live in a dry climate the humidity was low today (how about 17% for dry?), but it took my paper less than an hour to dry this way. Just a thought.

well, my attempt at this has been less than successful! :( I used saran wrap instead of the bag and it made a HUGE mess. I was able to salvage a couple of scraps which I will attempt to make into something resembling a card The moral is don't use Saran Wrap

We had high humidity today, but I blotted mine with a paper towel and it dried pretty quick. Now I've go to figure out what to do with it. Can I just post a photo of the faux glassine?

Well, here is mine just pending approval at 11:57pm EST. I had a hard time with this one so I have to get brave before I try it again. Found this hard!
Thanks for looking

Here is my attempt. Fun technique and learned a few lessons...I don't think heat embossing is a good thing here. Maybe I just did it wrong. This one is not heat embossed. I will have another later on in the afternoon. Thanks for the challenge. I love these things. Still pending.

I used to much blue on this and all I saw was sky so I put an angel in it. It is hard to tell in the scan but the angel is colored in with chalks and matching pearl ex. She is really pretty in real life. I love this technique but patience is not my best gift.

This was really fun to make. I had a piece of bubble wrap in my stamping area and did mine on the back side of that. So it picked up a little of the texture. And I ADORED this until I actually adhered it to my paper. Then it seemed to just melt to the cardstock visually. How are the rest of you adhering your glassine?

Sandi...I had the best result with my glassine paper when I glued it directly to white cardstock first and then adhered it to the card. On the colored cardstock it seemed to get lost. I think it helps to have a really light, plain background if you want the glassine to shine. I didn't post the one card I did with the white background, but it really did look much better. This is my only idea. Maybe someone else has a better suggestion? I'd love some tips too!

Okay here is my attempt. Ths was so much fun to make! My daughter is dying to do it! I did find out that if you use a bag from the grocery store, the paper doesn't peel off very nice. Although, it left a neat design on the paper from the crinkles!

My 1st try was, well let's just say, less then desirable. I thought I would give it one more try. This is what I came up with. I cant wait to do this technique again.

I am LOVIN' the stuff you guys are doing with this challenge! I only have black and Brocade Blue reinkers, so I'll have to sit this one out. But it looks like fun!

Here's my try. Thanks to Jus Colorado I gave it another try. The blotting with the paper towel sure helped with the drying and made the paper release so much easier. When I first tried all I got were tiny pieces because it just wouldn't release! I don't have any Pearl Ex, so this one is without it. I know I'll give this another try soon. I was wondering if it could be used for a lampshade? Sure would be4 pretty.

Default My First Try....

.... but will try again. It was messy, but fun. Will try the idea of mounting on white cs first and using a different color combo.

Thanks for the challenge, Beth!

Trish's site has been changed and all her techniques aren't listed on the new site. I checked and found this one similar, but done on a CD and left there.
