WT19 - Come out and Play along!
Time for another Ways to Use it Challenge! This week is something I really need help with.... WIRE. I have it but for some reason, I don't know quite what to do with it and never use it. So for all of you who are like me, I challenge you to try and use it this week. For those of you who use it all the time, PLEASE play along and give the rest of us some ideas!
Please remember to put WT19 in the keywords section and post a link back to this thread so we can all view your artwork!
To all my fellow Canadians, have a great Civic Day Long Weekend and to all the Americans and everyone else, have a wonderful summer weekend as well.
Anxiously awaiting some new ideas,
Julia

Heehee, it's good to see that I'm not alone. I bought a package of wires in several colors, special pliers, and then just stared at them thinking now what? Thanks for motivating me to break open the package

I'm off to play, but I thought I would post a couple links to cards I already made using wire. The new one will be posted soon!

my wire contribution
I already had this in my gallery. I'm looking forward to what everybody posts, cause I have all this wire, and I never know what to do with it. I was glad I saw this dragonfly on DIY, cause I got to use someof my wire and beads. I need bigger wire and beads, both, though. A lot ofyou have already seen this card...it's been up a couple of days now...I made more, even prettier dragonflies and a bumblebee.

I'm still into the shaving cream bg...I made lots of it the other day, many different colors, so I only had to make the mess once...

Just love that dragonfly!! Do tell how you made it???
All these wire creations are going in my favorites. I, too, am "wire challenged"!!! But after seeing these great cards, I won't be for long I hope! Isn't this a great site???

dragon fly
Okay, I'm really horrible at giving directions, but I will do my best.
Take 24 gauge wire (mine was 2 . About 18 inches or so. about 5 inches down wrap around your middle finger and index finger two times, so you form 2 figure 8's around your fingers. What you should have now will resemble an odd looking cross. Wind each end of wire around the center of the wings to secure them in place (just one time for each end, making sure to end up on the same side you started.)
On the top of the cross (the short piece of wire) attach one bead. This is the dragonfly's head. Bend the wire straight down behind the bead so that it lines up with the long piece. Trim the ends to match. Slide 9 beads onto the two wires (now together). Once the nine beads are on, separate the two ends of the wire, and curl towards the beads. slightly pull on the wings (so they are not so round) and separate them a little.
Use craft glue to attach shiny fabric to the back of the wings ( I skipped this step)
The bee is easier. You do it kinda backwards though. Start the same way with the wings. Then, instead of doing the head, do the body first. With the long end of wire, slide your beads on and form the body into a circle, with the end of the wire ending up at the wings. Wrap the wire around the center of the wings to secure, ending up at the head. Make the two ends of wire meeet at the top, add one bead for the head, trim the wire, and then curl each end towards the head for antennae.
I hope this all makes sense. After you do it once (if you can muddle through my awful directions) you will see how easy it really is.

Here is one I did that I feel okay about. I did another one but it was kind of blah. I still feel "wire challenged," but it's good practice.
Thanks, Julia!

I got one done this afternoon and my husband even gave me his input on the ribbon when I asked him his opinion. He also told me when he came upstairs that my lady bug looked better where I moved it to. I didn't move it!!!
Julia you forced me to get this wire out that was given to me and I just couldn't figure out what to do with the green. Until I saw the All Wrapped Up in my drawer and idea just hit me. Hope you like it because it sure was fun to make!
Here is the card

Hi everyone,
Here is my card for the WT 19 challenge. I need to use up some retired SU wireworks colors so I just added a little wire to this spinner card I made for an accent. My colors were inspired by a baby wipe card Julia did recently so thanks to her for the color inspiration! My card was still pending as of
11:42 EST. Thanks for looking!

Here is mine. I combined this one with the sketches challenge. It is hard to work these challenges in, but boy do I like them.

Ok - I took the plunge! I won't tell you how long it took me to make this either!!
It's 3D too. My DH asked me how was I going to mail this!! Mail a creation??? What is he thinking of!!
Each of the flowers coming out of the bag is attached to a wire & pops out although it is hard to tell that from the scan. And the little 3D bag has wire on it for handles!

Wow! Everyone is coming up with some great ideas! I unfortunately, am not able to get working on this until Tuesday. Unexpectantly my parents' cottage is free for the long weekend so I am busy packing here. The kids are so excited. Not so exciting for me packing for 7 people.
Anyway, my demo Lori shared some great wire tips and idea sheets with me. For those of you having trouble getting started...here is one to get you going.
Enjoy!

I loved Kittie's hanging charm look so I had to give it a try. So here's my second wire card and even though I get mad while I"m doing the construction I do like the end results of wire. Thanks Julia for the challenge.

The wire was handy to attach my vellum tag. The bead was an additional little touch. I was able to combine 4 challenges in 1 card this week. Really great challenges. Thanks for the ideas. Nancy

More wire and beads and a charm, too...
I made this card last week for my neighbor's new baby girl... It's not a traditional welcome baby card, but then with 3 girls of my own I know that non-traditional is how they come, standard. (grin)
Here is the link at it is still pending at the moment (8:11pdt pm)
