Default SBVC08 Stitchy Stamps 12.28.07

Good evening everyone! Sorry for the late posting - I hoped to get my sample done before posting but that just didn't happen tonight! I am so excited to host a challenge - this is my very first time doing so, so please bear with me!

I have been thinking about what I wanted to do, and I have been thinking a lot about these new templates I got from my local scrapbook shop - they are put out by Bazzill and basically they allow you to use a template to stitch designs or words on your page - very cool! But as I was looking at them I thought, why did I buy these? Basically you could take any shape or word, poke some holes in it every once in a while, and then stitch around it. Hhmmm... Also, I was a little worried that not everyone would want to stitch an actual design. So I was still thinking. Then, I got my Feb 08 issue of Creating Keepsakes in the mail and low and behold, someone else had the same thought, and they used stamps as a guide! Also, she had the idea of using paints, brads, buttons or other media if you don't want to stitch. So that will be our challenge - using a stamped image as a guide for stitching (or alternate media) to make our own embellishments!

If you happen to have this issue, there are great pictures of this idea on pg 6 of the Hall of Fame section, and the idea is by Barbara Pfeffer. If you don't have the issue, I will be posting a little tutorial in my blog as my sample gets completed, but here is the basic idea in turning your stamps into stitching guides:
1. Look for a stamp that is a very basic outline stamp. Stamp the image using VersaMark ink (if you don't have VersaMark, use a color that will blend into your paper).
2. Cut out the image, leaving about a 1/8" margin around the edges of the stamped image. If you are not stitching, cover your stamped lines with paint, brads, buttons, etc - whatever you want to use.
3. If you will be stitching, poke holes in regular intervals around the outline of the image. Use the holes to stitch around your image - your thread will cover the ink. Then use this as an embellishment on your page. Simple! I was excited to see this since it kind of blended all the things I was thinking about - I can't wait to see what you guys come up with! I'll be hanging around and working on my sample too if you have any questions!

I really loved this idea. I don't have any photos printed off to scrap with (even thought I just came back with over 400 photos from our vacation) so I decided to try this technique and add it to a card.

Thanks for a great challenge!

loved this idea and it's one of those "why didn't I think of that?"

I did a mini-album of some of our preparation and Christmas pictures.

stitching is on page 4

OK, finally got the sample done for my own challenge!! Love the samples I've seen so far - great work ladies! Here's my page, here's a close up of the stitched butterfly, and here's a close up of the stitched flowers. I loved making this page, it was really fun to find a new use for my stamps. You can also see that the word "Princess" is stitched... that is from the Bazzill stitching templates I mentioned in the challenge post - might as well use them since I've got them! I'll be going to post a mini tutorial on my blog next so check it out if you've got the chance!
