TLC 146 – Piece Up a Great Gift!
Hi there everyone. I am extremely honored to be the guest hostess for this week’s challenge!! Thank you, Beth and enjoy your break – you deserve it!! Since the past few Mondays haven’t gone as planned (I know you feel me on this!), and I start my new job Monday morning, plus I just couldn’t wait any longer, so I thought it would be best to post now while the posting was good... (If you’re not a Fan Club Member, please wait until Monday morning to post your awesome creations.)
Today's technique challenge is to make a GIFT CARD HOLDER USING PAPER PIECING. You can never have too many gift card holders lying around for that – oops, I really forgot, but it looks like a spent days on your gift – gift. I know it’s Monday, so let me repeat – I said PAPER PIECING, NOT paper pieRcing. A 3x3 card instead of a gift card holder is perfect acceptable (love those little cards, don’t you??). The samples I used were Stampin’ Up!’s pre-made gift cards. If you don’t have any of those lying around, or you just want to try something really cool, check out Jen’s Tutorial on Gift Card Holders.
This was the challenge for NOVVSNC back in 2005, posted by "elliesmom". Here's how she explained it:
Step 1. Stamp your image that will use the paper piecing twice, once on neutral cardstock and once on patterned cardstock or paper. You can use a print paper or create your own.
Step 2. Cut out the part of the patterned image that will be pieced onto the neutral image. You can cut on just the inside or even a bit outside of the line. Apply your adhesive and put in place.
Step 3. Finish your card with your image and embellishments and such, just like usual.
When you upload, please put TLC146 in the keyword section when you upload, and then post a link to your card here in this thread. There is a special gallery for Gift Card Holders under Anything But a Card – Gift Ideas – Gift Card/Certificate Holder. For a 3x3 card, just upload it to its respective stamp set gallery; these adorable mini cards don’t have their own gallery *yet*.
If you have questions, please ask. I do start a new job today (yeah and boo at the same time!), so I won’t be as accessible as I normally am. I will be checking on all your wonderful creations when I get home from work – FOR SURE!
Here Beth’s weekly disclaimer… If you are new to the challenges, please feel free to do this one or ANY of the challenges at any time. There is no time limit. They are not races to see who can do one first, nor are they contests of any sort. All the challenges are simply to provide inspiration and to get us STAMPIN'!!

I have always admired paper piecing on other's cards and have never done it myself...so I will give it a whirl tomorrow. Good luck on your first day of your new job too

The first time I saw the phrase "paper piecing" and looked at the card shown, I couldn't figure out where the holes were. Duh! I finally figured out that it was "piecing" not "piercing." With Christmas right around the corner, gift card holders are always a good idea. I'll get on this one in the morning.
Thanks for the great challenge - and your right we always need cards to hold those store gift cards!! I'm now 10 days early with my DSI Birthday Card - Thank You!

I must admit it - I had some "duh" moments with the card holder tutorial, but once I got it, it's so very easy! I love how they turn out! Thanks for a great challenge.
I have never paper pieced before! Been meaning too though! This will be great to do for the three kids next door...have three gift cards that need holders!! YAH! Will have to do it later this afternoon though! Thanks for the challenge!
Thanks for the great challenge Michelle. For me this was tough, I had no idea on how to do piecing. Finally after looking at a lot of great examples I figured it out (I think). TFL Here is mine: BE_Tis the Season by ButterflyEars at Splitcoaststampers
