First of all if anyone can explain Sizzix to me a little I would appreciate it. Basically, I would like to know if the original Sizzix dies will no longer exist because everything is being replaced with Sizzlit (thinner) versions? The main reason for asking this is because I like that I can cut chipboard using the original Sizzix dies and the Cuttlebug. Has anyone ever tried or had success using the Sizzlits to cut chipboard in the Cuttlebug? It's not on the "sandwich" list, but I thought maybe someone has tried it.
Sizzix used to be owned by Provocraft and Ellison. Ellison took over Provocraft's share and now is the sole owner of the Sizzix brand, which includes Sizzix, Sizzlets, Bigz, etc.
The old dies were the ones that were discounted and clearanced.
Ellison/Sizzix has re-released some of the old styles with the new Sizzix logo.
Both old & new Sizzix dies and the new Bigz will cut chipboard. I don't believe that Sizzlets can do so.

And just to confirm, Sizzlets are not recommended to cut chipboard.
This is a little off topic, but Creative Express is having a great sale on Sizzlet embossing folders, about $1.50 each. They work good in the Cuttlebug with just a little cardboard shim.

First of all, hang on to the Sizzix dies if you have them, they are being Discountinued as well as the origional (red Sizzix machine). I purchased the Elison Big shot, (Which is exactly the same machine as the big kick).
Please note, if you can find the origional sizzix machine they are discounted at Michaels to $25.00 and they LET YOU USE THE 40% off coupon, making the machine $15.75 (here in Maryland total with tax). I bought two of them. One to use all the time (My old one died) and one to keep for future. I'm stocking up on the cutting pads as well.
You can use the new sizzix Big Kick for everything, Origional dies (the new as well as the ones they are discontinuing), the sizzix and Sizzlits dies as well as the cuttle bug dies (yupper you read that right, cuttle bug dies work great with the sizzix machine). Read the directions on how to use the thin dies with the new machine.
It is a great value, great ideas for paper piecing.
The machines use a roll die system, you place the steel blade face up with paper on top and simply roll it through the machine to get your shape. I haven't found anything impossible to cut, unless it is ultra thick, but cardboard, tin, metal, etc., all go through the machine without much trouble.
Loretta, you seem to be the resident Sizzix expert! ;) I had a question I thought you might be able to answer. Do you know if the Ellison Design Thin Cuts work on the original Sizzix machines, provided you use the same adapter that you use for Sizzlits? TIA!

I have a cuttlebug but have both Elllison Thin cuts and Sizzix sizzlits. They are the same shape and size - just different colors, just as Ellison thick cuts dies are exactly the same as the sizzix bigz dies (just different color). You will be able to use the Ellison thin cuts the same way with the same adapters as the sizzlits.
Here's another tip. If you really want the look of chipboard with Sizzlits, you can glue together about 5 or 6 layers of cardstock. It works really well.
Can the orginal sizzix be used with Cuttle Bug dies and embossing folders? I want a machine and don't know which one to get other than folks say the Cuttlebug can have problems with a plate breaking over time. It is very confusing and I want to use CB dies and embossing folders with a sturdier machine.

I have a dumb question. I bought a set of Ellison's boy set dies (didn't realize they were for the sidekick, big shot or bigkick). i went to use the dies the other day and they didn't completely cut through the paper. i am using the converter. is there something else i should be using?

I have the Cuttlebug and everything you need to cut any die is included (you might need to add a cardstock shim at times tho). This is what I like about the CB, plus it's price ($40, with coupon), size/weight and portability. I've never had a plate break--not sure why that was happening for others?? HTH!
