Hi I'm just " recently " new here as in been looking and it's great. I have a question. Hallmark cards use to sell butterflies with their cards. The butterfly would contain wire paper and a rubber band and if you twisted the rubber band when the person would open the card the butterfly would move and seemed to fly. Does anyone know how they made this? I was going to buy a card just for that reason but never got around to it. Thanks
I am sorry to get your hopes up. I am in the process of tidying/organizing my 'stuff'. I thought I knew where it was but was mistaken. It could take me a long time to find it now but I will still keep looking. I am not too hopeful though. I may have thrown it out. Once again sorry.

thanks , I saw that after I googled it but trying to figure out how they set it up is the question lol. Now if I can get my hands on one of them ahhhhhhhh lol. Thank you very much again
I have one that I got years ago at a convention. It came a a kit with a block of wood that you wrap the wire around to make the body and then you cut out the wings stamp them and glue them on and then put your rubberband on...no tube or bead...doesnt work the greatest but flutters when you open the card but I wouldn't say it flys anywhere. It even came with a home made video had it about 10 years I think. Dar
as soon as I find out how to make a knock off version I will PM everyone that is interested in it and I will show you how I did it. That is if I do it first , If you guys figure it out can you PM me ? Thanks guys
TFS, Stevie!! We could stamp the wings ... even use an acetate. A card with the butterfly inside may have to be sent as a package.. perhaps the padded mailer envelopes??
They would be precious for children or a shut-in, or someone that just needs a hug!!
May God bless, Sandi

My friend had a kit from Coffee Break Designs about 8 years ago just like Sparkyart describes. We were unable to figure out how to make a 'do it yourself'' kit on our own.

I am not sure how to create a card with the rubberband... but... did you try using the wiggle buddies at www.southerngoose.com? They are little strips of acetate that has adhesive on both ends and you attach one end to the card and the other to the item you want to wiggle. I used this on one of my halloween cards in my gallery - I put a bat on the inside of the card attached to the wiggle buddy... when you open the card, the bat pops up and wiggles... these are really fun... you can bend them to control how much wiggle...
I put one of those in my MIL cards (she love's butterflies) and when she opened it, the butterfly flew out, scared her to death and she threw the card, LOL!!!! She said, "next time warn me if something is going to fly out". She wasn't mad or anything, just a little shaken for a few seconds. I still laugh about that one.
thank you , I just went there to the site and those are cute too but I wanted the one where the butterflies starts to fly or at least move around because the rubberband is turned and turned until it's tight. Thank you . That one is a ute idea as well
Joshs mom...I got the wire at the hardware store today and I will make some cards over the weekend and Monday mail it out to you. I will attempt to make the template....I dont see it being hard you should understand it ok. I will send you a xtra rubber band as well so you will know what size to use and a piece of wire to play with and have so you will know what wire to look for.

Oh and I want to mention this....since I see this card thing has been posted to the board...the card is a kit from a convention I had bought as I said and seen another post...once I found it and looked at it it is from Coffee break design I dont know if they still sell it or how you can get ahold of them. Some companies sell eyelets from them if this is the same place. I have to do some checking into somethings as there are copyright laws and I do not want to get in any hot water over this. So bare with me maybe I can get a hold of the owner. I will get back to ya.

I know this is an answer to a message that is over 5 years old but it has often been on my mind. Today, I saw this blog entry. Might answer your initial question (and everyone else :
