I am finally back with a new Ways to Use It Challenge. Thanks so much, Beth, for posting last weeks. Thanks also to everyone who participated. I am looking forward to getting some time and looking at your cards and ideas from last week.
This week's challenge is Background Stamps. I actually used to hate these stamps as at first I found it difficult to get a good impression with them. If you do a search in the forums you will find some really great threads with tips on using these stamps.
Background stamps are great for adding texture and interest to your cards. I also like to use them for tinting or shading the cardstock to a slightly different hue or tint by using a darker ink, a white craft ink or a different color altogether. Background stamps are also great with versamark, embossing, pastels, markers, "kissing" and just about anything else you can think of. Can't wait to see what you can come up with!
Please remember to put WT12 in the keyword section and post a link back here so we can all see your beautiful work.
Have a great week,
Julia
PS For those of you who are interested in my new little Joshua, we are both doing well. He is a very calm baby and slept 6 hours straight the past two nights in a row. He has dark brown hair and dark blue eyes and weighed 8 lbs. 9 ozs at birth. Most of you have probably already seen these pics but I just couldn't resist sharing our little miracle with those of you who hadn't.
Julia,
You baby boy is adorable! Congrats! I was just thinking a couple of days ago that I hadn't used my background stamps in a while and how it would make a good Way to use it challenge. You read my mind.

Congrats on your beautiful baby boy! I can never get over what a miracle our babies are!!
And thanks for a great challenge! I just got several new background stamps that I am going CRAZY with. Here's one I just posted earlier today. I also did several others... but I'll just post one for now!
Congratulations on the arrival of your new baby boy, Joshua. He is absolutely a beautiful baby. I know your other little one is happy as well. How old is he? He looks like a baby himself.
I cannot believe you are posting the challenges so soon. I love bg stamping, so this will be much fun. Thanks and I will make some tonight.

Julia, Congrats on the new little guy, and what a handsome pair you have there!
Glad you are back to challenge us, and thanks to Beth for keeping it going!
Thanks so much for all your kind wishes. I actually have 5 children now...didn't think you wanted to see that many attachments! My older three are James 14, Heather 12, and David 10. Benjamin is 2.5 years old. We are really enjoying all the different ages and the older kids are a great help and love their little brothers.
Also, for this challenge I was wondering if anyone had the simple stripes background stamp. I had an idea the other day I would like to see if it works and I don't have the stamp. Let me know if you are interested in trying it out for me.
I used my stipple plaid background stamp and combined this with the card sketch from yesterday to create this card. Hope you enjoy. Deb Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I can't believe you are stamping and posting already (and with FIVE kids). How inadequate am I--only 3 and nearly grown and I'm lucky to make a hand ful of cards a week!
Congratulations on your beautiful baby and welcome back!
Here's one I got done that I think fits this challenge. We are considering Fresh Fillers, Background Basics, Itty Bitty Backgrounds, etc. to be background stamps, right? I hope so! Anyway, it also fits the sketch challenge for this week.
Julia - so happy to have you back and to see your adorable little one.
I LOVE BG stamps and it seems like I use them in almost every card. I just uploaded a card a few minutes ago and then came to read this challenge...so I didn't get the code in the keywords, but here it is
HI! Am going to enjoy checking out all of these ideas.
I don't want to hijack but maybe someone here can help me.
Does anyone have a solid background stamp (from B & J's Art Stamps) - it is about 3.5 x 4.5, kind of an irregular edged - more of an oval than a circle. I bought it at an expo where there were great samples - many with southwestern stamp images over this background. But know I am totally clueless as to how I can use it. (The company has a web site but I could not locate samples.)
Anyway, maybe someone will post a sample here.
Thanks - I keep saying this, but thanks for all the ideas.
It was Julia's idea, took the Simple Stripes background, stamped once, inked w/ a different colour, turned 90 degrees and stamped again to get a plaid! Thanks for the idea Julia!
I love BG stamps, use them all the time!!

Here is mine, I hope is qualifies. I did whirly twirly (oops, made a mistake on the actual upload page, said it was swirls & blossoms) on the background, I don't have thelarge background stamp... Gallery at Splitcoaststampers

I guess I kinda "cheated" on this one. I made it today at Stamp-A-Stack. I am sure it was cased or tweeked from here so thank you to the original poster.
Here's a card I did really trying to take the "Challenge" and use background stamps as something other than background stamps. Gallery at Splitcoaststampers Sure was a lot of work! Kathy
