Default WT09 - Please join us for the Ways to Use It Challenge

This week's Ways to Use It Challenge is a very easy one so that everyone should be able to play....RIBBON. You can use either size organdy or grosgrain ribbon, gingham or anything that you have on hand. I love how ribbon often provides that finishing touch to "tie" it all together. Show us how you like to use ribbon and perhaps we'll even think up some great new ideas for it.

Have a great week and happy stamping!
Julia

Okay, I'm new to this whole thing, but I'm thinkin' I'd like to give it a try. Being a girly girl like I am, ribbon is one of my favorite things! I'll try to make something mega-cute by tomorrow - have a "Making Cards from 12x12 Card Stock" class tonight!

Julia...

This is such a great challenge. There is an abundance of ribbon at my house, but I always get into the rut of using it the same boring ways. I'm excited to see some different ideas. Thanks for posting these challenges. I hope to post my own ribbon card by tomorrow!

Still a little burned out from VSN, LOL, but will think of something! Thanks for adding this to your challenge list. I too need ideas for different uses and look forward to what everyone comes up with.

I'm so glad you are all going to give this challenge a try! Here is the first card I made for it (another challenge combo). I used grosgrain and organdy ribbon together and layered them for a different look.

These aren't new but thought I'd link some cards that I had that I think I used ribbon someway a little different.

Also, I've read where you would wrap the ribbon around the corners of items and make "photo corners" but I've never tried it.

I love to use the little hand-held rectangle punch to make notches for ribbon like I did on this card.

I will try to get something done for this challenge. Got a lot to do but I will do my best. I wanted to post this though. Julia, you said how you like that ribbon will give that extra finishing touch. I have an example of that in my gallery. I made a card for a friend and I didn't like how it turned out so I asked our very talented SCS ladies what I should do to jazz it up. I got the suggestion for a ribbon. I changed the card slightly but not much and then I added a ribbon. It made a HUGE difference. Anyhow, here are both of the examples. The first is the original and the second is what it looked like when it was completed. I WILL try my best to get something done for this challenge though.

Here is a baby thank you card I just made. I tied the ribbon around the sentiment vertically.. I like how it adds a little pizazz. I'm really loving the gingham ribbon right now.

I needed to do a card for a swap I am in so I added some ribbon to it so I could use it for this challenge. I used some of the new colors and the wax paper resist technique as well.

It's hard to tell, but the word, and the outline of the flower are embossed, and the word is on dimensionals.

I have a few more cards I've made but my camera has run out of batteries! To help inspire you, here is a list of ideas for ribbon that I had saved from a yahoogroup. I'd love to see some of these ideas used if anything inspires you and you have the time.

Ways to Use Ribbon

1 Tie through buttons

2 Make a border using a variety of single colors & patterns

3 Run along a pattern paper edge

4 Wrap around a photo

5 Use alphabet stickers on it

6 Hang a photo from a ribbon hanger

7 Stamp words on it

8 Use with pre-made products to give it your "personal touch"

9 Tie through eyelets or punched holes along an edge

10 Attach to metal embellishments like paper clips, spirals, photo
anchors, jump rings or safety pins

11 Make a tie or bow and glue anywhere

12 Hang tags from it

13 Use for photo corners

14 Wrap around or tie to slide mounts or large monogram letters

15 Use to tie something closed like a mini-album, tag book, journal or card

16 Make loops or tabs for opening or pulling out hidden journaling

17 Attach a label holder with it

18 Wrap around a pre-made photo frame

19 Apply rub-on letters on it

20 Tuck photos under a ribbon border

21 Frame a picture or accent with ribbon

22 Tie around journaling blocks

23 Hang charms from it

24 Tie around strips of cardstock or paper

25 Use up your ribbon "scraps" to make a loop or tab border

Ways to Attach Ribbon

1 Glue Dots Clear Lines

2 Glue

3 Xyron

4 Brads

5 Eyelets

6 Staples

7 Sewing

8 Safety Pins

HAve a great day,
Julia
